Yeah, I’m probably going to go broke buying this thing. I switched to android a few years ago, saying to myself that the only way I’ll go back to iPhone is if you could move the icons and it has a USB-C. Now both those things have happened. I almost went back last year, but my phone was still pretty good And the great icons. My android broke, and now I’m sporting an iPhone 6. And the iPhone 6 is actually surprisingly good. Even the battery has lasted pretty good. I have to charge it throughout the day but I’m not really not that worried about it as I am always close to my car or my set up. Has a video maker and a self-aware Apple fan boy now..I am excited to upgrade to this and happy I waited one more year for the 16 pro instead of the 15 pro .

I think the most incredible part is not only about A18 Pro and bigger battery, it's about 95% recycled lithium in the battery, all across 16 series start from this year, and they didn't even talk about it during the event. This is pretty huge for the industry.

@@Taxiway_Alpha Apple wants to sell an iPad and a Mac, better for Apple’s profits, not their customers. An iPad that runs MacOS is one less potential Mac sold, while a relatively large iPad and keyboard would make a compelling Mac. So it is purely about Apple’s continued greed.
@Mentaculus42
@Mentaculus42 4 ай бұрын
@@Taxiway_Alpha Why do you assume that you would be using a touchscreen interface for MacOS on an iPad? Just use it with the keyboard and normal pointing device as on a Mac, unless you also want to use the Apple Pencil. Restrict Mac mode to at least 11” iPads. It would take someone a few seconds to figure out that the iPad is in Mac mode and needs a keyboard. The iPad will know that it is not connected to a keyboard and state that Mac mode is not available. Where is the problem, seems extremely obvious to me. For that matter, an iPhone 16 could have a Mac mode but require the detection of an external monitor in addition to a keyboard. Oh, now we could buy only ONE device, and apple would really hate that. Considering that the A18pro chip is more powerful than an M1 chip and the phones have the same amount of RAM, it is purely apple being greedy and screwing over the customer.
@Mentaculus42
@Mentaculus42 4 ай бұрын
@@Taxiway_Alpha I strongly disagree, you can just hibernate the state of each OS into the SSD as they do on MacOS, you don’t have to do a cumbersome hypervisor as apple has total control of everything on iPad. Obviously one needs some additional software to do the OS state swap. Remember that this is a one or the other, NOT A SIMULTANEOUS execution of the OSs that you are suggesting. There are obviously SOME PROFESSIONAL MAC apps that would be battery hogs, but that is up to the user to determine what is appropriate for their work flow. Using the MacOS version of most apps will not be overly taxing. It is always easy to find corner cases, but the vast majority of Mac software would be very customer friendly on an iPad with a Magic Keyboard. Probably more of an issue is that Apple would say that they could not control the security of an iPad running MacOS without a real good “sandbox”, which might bring the argument back to something like a compartmented virtualization environment that would cause more overhead. But since apple is losing control of security in Europe, what is the point of restricting what types of software can be run on an iPad. The Mac has not been overly compromised by how things have been done for years (and Apple has continually improved this). So it goes back to Apple greed and forcing control over the platform to maximize their profits on hardware and software, not giving the customer the choice. In Europe people have a choice to stay in the garden or take the security risk. Personally I think apple is all about maximizing profits, while throwing up “misrepresentations” about security to cover their greed.

The same is true with the new Pixel, they changed the camera bump and improved the specs. Honestly, the a18 pro is quite underwhelming, it takes apple 4 years to get 40%faster single core performance than the firestorm cores in m1 , even worse these gains are mostly come from frequency increase rather than ipc improvement . The gpu is also disappointing,The 20%performance gain this year only makes a18 pro on par with sd8gen3 since it is also 20% faster than a17 pro , which means apple is one generation behind snapdragon.This year’s 8gen4 is likely to have 10000+ multi core score and a better gpu , putting apple in the catch up. I agree that mobile processors has become so powerful in recent years that you won’t notice these differences, but still the reality is apple is no longer on top of the game.

I have always wondered if someone was to start from the very first iPhone battery life and do all the calculations every time Apple say that the next iPhone has 20% more battery life then the next one has 25% more battery life and so on. Sure does seem like these batteries would be lasting several days by now. lol. Your challenge is to do all the calculations and see how long these batteries should be lasting vs how long they actually last.

I have a dream. Dream that one day, while even completely possible today we would have a foldable iPhone which would turn into kind of iPad and after connecting to monitor via usb-4/thunderbolt would become full fledget, albeit somewhat cutted Mac running macos. All wirelessly syncing my current data from bigger Macbook which I don't have all the time with me. While possible today, I understand not possible because of partial canibalisation of sales.

Apple will never allow us to natively run these as natively DeX but maybe the EU will force them?

I currently have an m1 iPad Air and an m1 MacBook Air. It already feels weird that my laptop and tablet have the same chip. I don’t need a phone that’s faster that my laptop

That’s great and all, but what does that actually mean to the average user? I have an iPhone 15 Pro, so I’ll be able to use it with Apple Intelligence when it’s released. The extra bit of power just doesn’t seem all that monumental to me.

I would love to upgrade my 14pro max for the 16pro max. Only trouble is I finally just upgraded my 2013 MacBook Pro for an M3pro MacBook.

I have never heard anyone complain about an iPhone being too slow. The only complaint I have heard is how Apple manipulates the battery life. My wife owns a Samsung phone and I am very impressed.

Everyone is talking about the lackluster offering from this new phone, and it kinda is, but I feel like they are cleaning up a few things to get ready for something big next year. Upgrade or don’t, but the best is probably yet to come
