So after this i have a question, why? For our document everything friends isnt the non pro good enough? So that leaves us who like to take photos for the process and or the art, and what i am always left with is looking at the price difference between the non pro and pro and realising what kind of dedicated camera equipment i could get for that. In the uk the price difference is £300, that will just about get you a Nikon D800, which will be soo much more as an artistic tool. I made this mistake, i was looking to get into photography and i paid up extra to buy a phone with the best camera on a phone at the time, think 'this will be great, i dont need a dedicated camera'. It was incredibly disappointing and disheartening. Once i got a proper camera i was so much happier. P.s. i think this was definitely the best coverage i have seen of this phone from a photography perspective, nice work.

You make a lot of good points. I get so stressed out trying to spend money the best I can. Is it better to get a lesser phone and more camera gear? Is it better to pay for a trip to take photos instead? I’m happy you’ve found your balance. I think the point is a lot of people don’t want to carry separate things. I get blown away how many people don’t even carry a proper wallet anymore. And for even of those who have cameras, we don’t always carry them everywhere we go. But we always have our phones. Even if the color science and computation isn’t exactly where I want it. I’m happy that cameras have been so important to the widespread take over of smart phones. I love how many genuine moments people have captured with their loved ones and friends. I think it’s good that people always have a tool to capture moments that they can forever cherish. I think it’ll get better for us artistic shooters. The niche is always slow. I really appreciate that comment, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you very much for the support and watching. It’s a huge motivation. Wishing you well, cheers!

I think its important to be clear 'android' doesnt have a philosophy on photography, its not a company its an open source software that lots of groups contribute to, the cameras on android phones have almost nothing relating them to each other. They run different software and hardware totaly and utterly. Anyway on to the rest of the video.

So true! Should have phrased that a little differently. It’s hard for an Apple brain to comprehend 😂. Thanks for watching as always 🙏🏻

Thanks for this very helpful artist’s take on the 16 Pro. I have an iPhone SE original from 2016, and I like how organic and natural the photos look on its 12 MP sensor. I also hate the flat overprocessed over sharpened excessive HDR look, so you’ve helped me decide to limp through yet another year with my 77% old battery. I’m hoping the 17 pro will expand its AI capabilities to include the option to present a “filmic organic look“ for both stills and video. I do like their new tone mapping adjustment grid that allows you to adjust the amount of HDR and saturation you want. Hopefully they could do that as well with a filmic style.

I love the SE! I hope they refresh that next year with the next wave of phones. This is pure speculation, but I'd imagine that Apple won't add a native support for film like photos. I could be wrong but it seems against their design philosophy from how I understand it. Personally, I'd like to see that as well. 77% is pretty rough battery health. I do know it's almost 25% of the value of the phone, but if you're not interested in updating. That battery is less than the flagship models at about $70 I believe. Thank you very much for watching and leaving some insightful comments to the discussion. Wish you well!

Re: Camera/Color science, doesn't the phone instruct you to pick a default photo style when you first open the camera? I don't have mine yet, but that's how I imagined to use them; pick a style and edit a bit to my liking and keep that as my default photo style anytime I open the camera. And then I can of course edit them after or change the photo style to suit the scene. Kind of how I use film simulations on my Fuji.. In theory that would solve the "bad" standard color style issue..? Other than that your commentary is on point, thanks!

You make a really good point, that I wish I touched on. Kinda just slipped my mind. I shot everything for this video on a standard setup as I do feel 95% of general users will be too intimidated to touch this. I wish I had a few lines and comments about this for those who do. I think most people should make some very slight adjustments with the tone map. Personally I have found a very slight bump in contrast and color to meet my liking. It's a hard balance in the fact that too dramatic and I find it not fitting all photos and I need to walk it back. Too subtle and I need to bump it on some photos. But I feel I do enjoy photos straight out of camera with a minor adjustment here. Thank you for making a comment about it because it can go a long way. Thanks for watching and taking the time to point this out. Wish you well!

I ordered a iPhone 16 max to replace my Samsung s21 ultra. I hope I am making a good choice. The only reason I am switching is because I like my MacBook M1 Max and the iPhone seems to link up to it nicely.

If the camera button was on Android, you would be able to add/remove/move the settings. This is classic Apple thinking that their customers can't make decisions for themselves... It really wouldn't be hard for them to add a option in the camera settings to customise the button functions.

Awesome review. Many reviewers dont talk enough about the crap photo quality between 2x and 5x zoom. They keep on talking about marketing stuff as if 5x is automatically better than the old 3x zoom from 14 pro which is dishonest or they lack actual photo quality assessment knowledge which begs to me why are they even tech reviewers in first place.
@jmizaur
@jmizaur 16 сағат бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. It means a lot. I think it's hard for a number of reasons. One, good enough photo quality means something different to every single person. Personally I'd like any photos I take to be good enough I could print them out at a decent enough size. Say 8x10" Someone may feel that they only need good enough to post on instagram. And if that's the case, the quality hit in that range isn't that detrimental. This is the use case for most people. The photo is going to be 1350x1080 on there anyway. Furthermore, there are a lot of tech enthusiasts who can talk your ear off on the difference between wifi 6e and wifi 7 but then have to talk about cameras. Which maybe isn't their strongest field, but it's such a huge part of any phone these days. Phones are 50 different things and of those 50 certain things have different levels of importance to every single person. Everyone makes mistakes and has different areas of expertise. I have my fair share of mistakes and pitfalls too. Thank you for watching and adding to the discussion. Cheers, wish you well!

I'm not loving the camera control button but do find it useful. I adjusted it to open the camera with a double click and adjusted the pressure sensitivity to light in accessibility which made a big difference. I primarily use the mood and subsequent tone menu to quickly adjust the photo to my desired style. love how these effects can be changed post capture if you change your mind. I like shooting in stark b&w which allow me to see highlights and shadows better as well as the tone for the overall look of the photo. most of the other setting I use the touch screen. I'm ok with the positioning of the button. when photographing I mostly shoot horizontally griping with 2 hands. much like I hold my canon r5 or Leica q3. the camera control is not a game changer but an nice additional feature. but I get why most will never use it until apple adds some additional functionality to it. hope adobe Lightroom adds support for the camera control button soon. When I want a true "raw" image I shoot with the Lightroom camera and it automatically uploads to my Lightroom app giving me all of the adobe editing features which I prefer over apple's photos app.

That's a great tip! I'll have to check out that pressure setting. I also had no idea that Lightroom had a camera built in, going to be checking that out as well. It's fun that we have found different uses for it in our photo taking workflow. I'll give it more of a try to adjust ones in real time. I just find that I'd rather look at it later. Thank you very much for watching! Wish you well.

Maybe wait for the 17. The 16 is not groundbreaking. Gamble on the 17? Good analysis! Thanks!
@jmizaur
@jmizaur Күн бұрын
@@atlantasailor1 I think it just depends where you’re at. Phones, only have a few small improvements and refinements each year. I don’t think that’s gonna change anytime soon. If I was a betting man, the 17 isn’t going to be a huge revolution either. But if you can wait 4-5 years to upgrade. The improvements add up enough to justify the purchase. I appreciate the kind words! Thank you for watching! Wish you well!

Yes I hate how the photos look so dark! They will look good on screen when I am taking it, and then it looks dark and dull. I do like the camera button though, since accessing it from the lock screen would be super finicky sometimes. I also found that having a case makes it easier to not have accidental presses.
@jmizaur

So true! I never use the Lock Screen icon to get to the camera now. The mechanical button is king!

I have a question for you please . So let’s say you have a 13 pro and then get 16 pro would that mean the pictures on instagram come out better with the 16 pro? Or would the differences be negligible?( I don’t use zoom & don’t mind post processing in lightroom) I’ve checked the iPhone 15 pro vs 13 pro and theirs no noticeable difference in the main sensor ; although 15 pro is 48 megapixel the 13 pro has f1.5 apeture which is better than 15 pro’s f1.8 . I only use the main sensor so pls share your thoughts I don’t want to waste money
@jmizaur
@jmizaur Күн бұрын
Absolutely happy to help! From a purely photography standpoint in instagram. I believe the difference won’t be too noticeable unless you’re in the most challenging lighting conditions. I would hold out another year if you can. If your battery is struggling to get through a full day of use, maybe more worth it. Or if there is a non camera related feature you’d really like. Generally speaking though, I’d try and hold out another year. Thanks for watching! Good luck to you with your photo taking!

wait for the 18/19 Pro major changes might be made in a design standpoint and hardware cameras will be improved hopefully I'm with an 11 pro max and its suffering and it is time to let go to buy the 16 pro max now, just that its out of stock for me currently.

@@jmizaur I get you but I’m in a difficult situation because if I wait a year the 13 pro value will depreciate. I can easily get the battery replaced but will be £85 what would you do
@jmizaur
@jmizaur 21 сағат бұрын
@@sq9779 on a very personal level. I’d wait another year. At the end of the day it’s your decision and you know your financial and personal needs better than anyone. Most iPhones drop about $100 a year with the direct trade in. Not sure what that is in pounds. You’d need to decide if another wave of improvements is worth that loss of $100. I’d only replace your battery if it’s under 80% battery health. I’d also only do it if you plan on using the phone another year. Some people upgrade every year. Some go as long as they possibly can. I know you’ll make the best decision for yourself :)

All cellphones are a gimmick comparing it to any actual dedicated camera
@jmizaur
@jmizaur Күн бұрын
I can see this point of view. There is some interesting things that they are doing. I didn’t cover it, but the video is incredibly competitive. In phone computation is very impressive, pushing these sensors further than anyone ever thought. I’d always rather have my dedicated camera for a photo but my phone is on me all the time. It helps to have it be the best it can. The button is a gimmick but I hope it gets better. Thank you for watching! Wish you well.
