I've an iPhone 8 in which the cable from the mainboard to the button has been torn. The screen itself works fine, just no operating home/id button. As I understand it, it's part of the backlight assembly. Is it possible to get the backlight assembly and just extract the cable for the home button to be used?

It was the only chip that was damaged. Cell phone manufacturers build boards a certain way, just like laptop manufacturers. After a while it just feels like common sense when you're looking for something specific.
