understood. not willing to risk this on a $1000 device. doesn't take long for magnetism to happen. after commenting, i did a bit of research and found many others with this concern. you seem to have no issues with it so far which is nice. thanks for the review.

I’ve spent countless hours trying to figure this stuff out so that I can make driving videos without that awful jello effect. Have you still had no damage from the magnet? About how many times have you used recorded with the magnet? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, thank you so much for the video!!!

Seem to be a workaround but not feasable. I didnt buy the gimble to have to attach a magnet when in use. I didnt have the issue until lately. Since i’m under warranty with my iphone, is it better to just turn it in to them so i can get a replacement?
@TheBasicPilot5 жыл бұрын
Unless the iphone can have the OIS turned off , you will have this issue.

You would think Apple would make the iphone gimble friendly. Does it work with X?
@TheBasicPilot5 жыл бұрын
Jane Smitherson I don’t know if it can shut it off. Apple doesn’t make a product to work with something else. Their products are flawless, just ask them.

@@TheBasicPilot I saw another video of someone using the same method on the X. I guess Apple never anticipated the iphone to use as professional like video production and the price drop in gimble.

Great video, and a great work around for this problem. I have tried it, but it seems to mess up my auto focus... using an iPhone 8+
@33layersandyoustillnotthere6 жыл бұрын
you have to get it right, otherwise the autofocus will not work properly. Also it is better if you use an app like filmic pro with disables OIS otherwise it will fight constantly against the magnet and probably wear it out. Filmic pro disables ois but still gives you the jello effect due to how the camera is suspended with springs.
@TheBasicPilot6 жыл бұрын
@@33layersandyoustillnotthere Despite what Filmic Pro (which I own also) says it can do, shutting off OIS on the iPhone is not one of them.

@@33layersandyoustillnotthere Focusing mechanism of the lens is locked in place by the magnet. I'ts not a big deal in a very bright conditions - like the scene on this video, where everything seems to be in focus (due to large aperture). But the lower light, the lower aperture, the more and more you'll be out of focus.

The thing you're doing sticking a magnet on the phone, is that you're simply locking all metal parts of the camera in place - that including delicate focusing system of the lens. Your iPhone is now focusing on "infinity" and you won't be able to focus on a close subject with the aperture fully open. It's a dirty workaround for certain/rare cases (like the scene you shoot on your video: full sun, long distance focus, aperture f/8 or more, where everything seems to be in focus), but definitely not any kind of "fix". Kind regards.
@TheBasicPilot6 жыл бұрын
You can't please everyone but this works for me but feel free to provide a link for your fix.
@ArturFilipiak6 жыл бұрын
The Basic Pilot there’s no fix for this. And you definitelly can’t claim you found a fix for something that cannot be fixed. I’m just trying to elaborate what did you actually do here using a magnet (the cons that you didn't mention on your video). Kindly, Artur :-)

We all know magnets will magnetize metals when in contact. Seems like this will magnetize the metal used in the OIS and essentially "lock" out the OIS from ever working properly again. This is frustrating!
@TheBasicPilot5 жыл бұрын
I guess if you never take it off, it might. I only put it on when I am using my gimbal, which is not all the time.
