xavier sepulveda the x3000 doesn't record 4k 10-bit 4:2:2 like the RX0 but it is better than the Go Pro

Comparing 4 + 1 footages (all 4 cameras plus X3000), best footages are taken from X3000. FDR-X3000 is still the winner for small size, image quality and image stabilization. lol

ya.. I have a camera company that wanted to send me an RX0 to do a review and after watching this, I was like nahhhh dont send it (waste of time) but I do have the a6500 Sony camera and it is a great camera

This was the best review of the RX0 I've seen so far. Well done! The RX0 is a hard sell for anything outside of a studio set or fully funded production. The 1" sensor means you can actually use it in a workflow with full-size cameras and not have it stick out as much as GoPro footage. It's great for getting decent footage from places/angles that a DSLR/cine rig can't fit, but needs a monitor to actually preform well. Overall, this is a specialty tool to keep in your inventory. All that said, The hero 5 and 6 have terrible sound without modifications and using protune raw audio, and a lot of issues to be ironed out. Sony could have just taken the x3000, put it in this form factor, added a screen, and maybe tweak the microphones to have a solid product. The reason most people don't use the x3000 is it doesn't fit any gimbal on the market right now and doesn't have a rearview screen. But, I'm just some random guy on internet.

DIY-HACKS, The vision of the director doesn't always line up with what's practical given money, time, and resources (man-hours). If the director wants a shot that requires a mobile set to be built to support a large rigging, that takes money, supplies, and time. After a while, you'll run out of one or all of those things. As a director, you have to decide what's worse: Compromising on the shot or cut it out altogether. In The Hobbit, they tried to use GoPros as a compromise when point of view footage was desired. I don't have to point out where they used that footage in this scene: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH6ak6yLideGkKMm6s If the RX0 was out, I'm willing to bet they would have taken the time to build a small waterproof enclosure to house an RX0 and a monitor to record 4k footage that could be color matched to blend seamlessly with the action. Sure it would more difficult than using a GoPro, but it would be a heck of a lot more simple than trying to figure out how to waterproof a RED Weapon Cine gig. So, there are uses for this camera, but the uses are some that 98% of the people watching this review (including myself) will likely never need; because, those uses are for funded projects.

It would have cropped down the resolution of the video. Cropping it to make it look like a narrower lens. results would have been more pixely looking versus the other cameras. Unfair to the GoPro.

I noticed you had a Samsung evo MicroSD in the GoPro Hero 6? what capacity? I have recording issues when used 60ishGB of my 256GB Samsung Evo Micro SD on my Session 5 (and full size) I put it down to the memory card size. Could this be why yours had cut/froze?

Thanks for doing the review. I've been interested in this ever since it was announced, but the spec was so iffy, like, no native 4k, come on, it's 2017! 35mm seems really odd for a camera like this, too. And how can you use it as a normal camera when it's so small and has so few buttons. Nothing really adds up, you know. Like, if you're gonna take advantage of the 1 inch sensor, at least let it shoot 4k. And how can it have a Mic Jack when the rx100 doesn't, when it's much bigger? After your review, I see that the image quality overall isn't great, in spite of the sensor and the Zeis lens, and the minimum focus distance isn't good, either, and why only 15 megapixel when rx100 has 20? Is the whole sensor being utilized? Overall, 1 inch sensor plus Zeis lens sounded really good, but looking at it more closely just makes me scratch my head wondering what Sony was thinking and what they were trying to achieve. By the way, the stabilization of the iPhone x looks amazing! It also seems to offer good colors without the need to edit. I wonder if rx100's vivid shooting mode performs just as good. Thanks again, love your channel and reviews. They're funny, honest, and insightful. I hate those reviewers who are so biased, not knowledgeable, and ridiculous. I saw one who said something like "who needs 4k anyway" and "think of it as a smaller rx100 camera" instead of a GoPro. I wonder how much bribe money she took... hi you Sony lover... I got a huge problem, after I used Gopros since the one I wake and moved to Sony, is just perfect and I use for like 1 year now, but till today I shot my videos at 1080 60 fps and that is ok for the ebay filter I have, the problem is I am now shooting at 4k and we can see the black border of the filter, do you know any filter to use in 4k to the sony fdr-1000 vr, don´t find on ebay, Sony can´t help, Polarpro don´t have bahhhhhh need help

Just a small comment: you have to switch to a better microphone on the outdoor shooting. Perhaps Unidirectional mic. Possibly lower gain settings. The cuts between the outdoors and indoors clearly demonstrate this in this video :)

I will get this if I need a tough action camera with a bigger sensor than my other action cams. Doubt the RX100 or iPhoneX would handle catching a wave while hung over a boat for moving hull shots (which I tend to do). Nice that it isn't so wide angle looking.

I found this RX-0 in a store while looking for my new Sony X3000 Action Cam. I came to the same conclusion that the RX-0 really doesn't have a place to be.... The small size and alloy body would make it great for extreme sports, but the lack of image stabilisation and poor battery life make that impossible. Not to mention the +$1000 Australian price tag! I don't understand it purpose either. I went ahead and got the X3000 for my dirt bikes.

I'd consider for the price of the original RX100. This is a digital camera without the size of the RX100 while being more rugged. It can shoot RAW. I hope you can do some photography comparison with any RX100.

I like the look of the footage. Any normal action camera looks rather unrealistic. Wide FOV makes footage look faster. It also reduces gradient and oens u corners. If you want to show a realistic vantage point with a small camera this is a great tool.

Great review. The RX10 series would also be good to add to the mix. The RX10 series has a better, sharper lens than the RX100 series. Also, it's nice that the RX10 series does not overheat in 4K. It ended up being a perfect vacation camera traveling to New Zealand & Australia.

I have 3 RXO. And I love them. You've noticed, it's unique and not comparable to any other camera. I have my videos with my AS7, I have scenes with my RX0 installed and mine does not see it. The quality is right.

I can see myself wanting this for 1-2 man band for lower budget commercial shoots, when you want to strap the camera onto something, and you do not want a cheap gopro fisheye look,but want to match it to a7s\gh4 or similar. Also much better in low light. But a little overpriced. And when budget is low and you got to move, its nice to have an extra camera in the bag , or pocket, lol, smack it up as a b\c camera angle "just in case shot" .

Great video! You said it best with your synopsis: there's a better camera for almost every situation. This price point is pretty unacceptable. If you own a flagship phone, just buy a Hero5 and you should be good to go with those two for most situations without over thinking anything. Just to get started, of course. This camera doesn't seem to do well at anything.
