This is the first intelligent overview of this camera that I've seen. By the way, LanParte's detachable gimbal for GoPro and smartphone, which I have, should work with this camera. The GoPro mount will not interfere with the centred lens. Great role for Lok in this video :) Subscribed.

The LanParte gimbal is LA3D-S2. The GoPro mount is very slightly wider/taller than the RX0 and differs a bit in depth, but the minor difference in dimensions should not be an issue. The key thing is that the mount will not interfere with the RX0's lens placement. And it's a detachable gimbal, which should make it quite versatile for this camera.

Rx0 was a big miss IMO. 1-inch sensor is awesome, but if I remember correctly, it very rarely uses the whole sensor at any one point (might be wrong on that one) Whichs that lack of stabilization, Odd. Lack of 4k I think may be a miss for many pros. I really want a super compact camera to replace a phone camera. I tend to be in places where a delicate phone... Isn't the best. The Keymission 80 would have been perfect, but it's not very good. Rx0, sounds awesome... Almost.

It's not designed to be moved when shooting. It's a small camera but not an action camera.

👍 James gets it! In the last video of the Sony 400mm f/2.8 lens I strapped an RX0 to the end of the lens to get a different perspective whilst I was shooting with the lens

Living aside all the things this camera is missing I really don't understand why people say this camera has good image quality. To me it looks really bad. And I understand the need for color grading but the sharpens and focus are awful!!!!

personally i'd go with the xiaomi yi 4k+ ... you can change lenses on that check it out ... they are glues to it like on the older gopros but the lenses are standardized ones so if you are willing to sacrifice the original lens you can convert th yi and older go pros to interchangable lens systems or simply buy a few new ones ... i talked with a drone pilot who shoots for bbc sometimes and hte told me that they often use go pros with different lenses ... google it it is really a cool option

simply never mind what gopro are doing this camera should have been deeper to exploit 20mp sensor, should have internal 4k, should have time lapse internal not gouge the punter again after stiffing for a small fortune at the outset.

Comparing this camera to any consumer marketed action camera is an UTTER waste of time. The only competitor to it would be Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera. These are film industry grade cameras that have an extensive backend expansion capabilities, which are completely alien to consumers. Sure you can use it to record your skiing action, or downhill mtb race or dare devil cooking competition with your grandma - but so can you use Canon C300 to vlog with. This is not what the cameras strengths are. Unfortunately even Sony's own marketing strategy fails to address it, where i can buy the camera from the official Sony Consumer Electronics shop, but to get the remote and network interface for it i have to go through lengthy back ordering system which gets put thru to Sony Professional channel. Stupid. Camera rules - and it looks like the mark II is even a better proposition. Liked Lok's cameo appearance :)

If your going to use a gimbal, you may as well use rx100v. It’s almost great but feels half baked. Will wait to see what mkii brings.

Shane Osborne There are plenty of situations where an RX0 on a gimbal is preferable to an RX100 V. Indeed, there are situations where an RX0 recording 4K with an external recorder is preferable to an RX100 V. Look at the 4K specs for each instead of the rubbish that’s being peddled on KZbin.

Yes it has external 4K which is ok lets say. But; no continuous AF, no IS, relative small aperture etc. NO thanks! It is a half product IMO. Add internal 4K, effective IS, 2.8 aperture and better stills, Im ready to buy. I know there are many people who is waiting for a product like that. Im also in, even if it was as big as Ricoh GR II.

How rude and stupid you fanboys are! 1-All recent smartphones have 4K in very compact body 2-GoPro and Sony action cameras also have compact body and internal 4K 3-you need to work on your reading comprehension, because you can't even understand what is written. I said "It has external 4K, which is OK LETS SAY". This means, it is not my priority! And another proof how stupid you are; You don't even understand that, Im not happy the quality of tiny sensors of action cameras (gopro/sony). LMAO I don't have a GoPro product. I wouldn't buy a tiny sensor product, no matter what brand it is. But, let's deal the facts; action camera market has mature products. If this 1 inch sensor Sony had IS with a brighter lens, I would buy it. Just FYI, I am using a Sony mirrorless for my videos (Nikon for stills) and I don't like using my phone for videos/stills.

Still, u say that they are compared to the Sony RX100 V, which DOES shoot in 4k, so i don't get why this wouldn't be able to de the same also for the price it SHOULD shoot 4k! Maybe they don't want the be compared to a GoPro Hero6, Sony X3000, YI 4K+, people WILL compare it because, it's also a rugged small camera and it does the same job! So I don't agree at all with this and other reviews, it just seems to me that Sony gave alot of money to alot of KZbinrs to make this look good. So maybe in conclusion: IF it is a smaller RX100, there isn't a reason to not be able to shoot 4K and people WILL compare it even if Sony doesn't want to!

+koen miseur Sony gave us no money. The most likely reason it won’t shoot 4K internally is due to the amount of heat generated by a 1in size sensor - it is a much larger surface area than a GoPro or X3000 sensor and the heat generated hard to get rid of in that smaller body, especially with all of the waterproofing. Much easier to get rid of this heat in an RX100 due to the larger body and the lack of water proofing. Filmmakers who want the best quality will always want a larger sensor, which is what the RX0 provides.

Could be an heat issue, but Sony is a big company, they should be able to figure it out. Also GoPro is so baked in to the film industry (as is 4k) I don't think alot of people would want to risk it especially because the new GoPro is alot cheaper and isn't a slouch either! No I don't see this doing good, and next version will have 4k, trust me! Btw I do own a Sony RX100 and I'm very happy with it, so it's not just a brand loyalty thing, I don't even like GoPro, because there prices here in Europe are insane compared to the prices in the US.

+koen miseur GoPro is ‘baked in’ but only really as it does what it does with little in the way of serious competition. The shape of the Sony X3000 isn’t as ideal for shooting in tight spaces. I can see the RX0 being very popular for in car shots with a recorder tucked away in a compartment or glove box; it may not be an all in one solution like the GoPro, but if you check out the 4K footage that people have captured, it is amazing that it has come from such a tiny camera. As for the heat - I’m sure they will sort it out, but it’ll take some pretty neat engineering. The logical solution is to make the body a heat sink, but then you will have people complaining the camera is getting too hot to touch... so that may limit recording time. Hopefully some new materials could help make the entire case act as a heat sink. As I said on another comment, I would, personally, much rather have that great 1” sensor shooting 1080 (dynamic range, shadow detail, low light performance) than a smaller sensor shooting 4K As a specialist product I don’t think Sony are expecting huge volumes of sales, and it is probably priced accordingly. It will be interesting to see what the price is in 12-18months time - it may be more appealing to a wider market. (@richsibley)

Photogearnews this is funny if the basis is just 4k, the 1080p of sony is still better that than xiaomi's pixelated 4k ,if you open go pro or xiaomi youll see the sensor is just same size as your cellphone,so its like shooting with your phone with a built in lens,where as sony its like their rx line up,you shrink it down and you get an action camera ,and that 1 inch sensor came from a larger camera,so the image quality you get will still be better,not all 4k is created equal ,especially when it came from a small sensor camera...some chinese camera ive seen they just scale the resolution and call it 4k ,youll see in the menu it got 4k if you shoot with it youll see the difference...🙄

If you compare this as an action camera to a GoPro, it will lose by far to GoPro. However this for studio productions is better. It's just nonsense comparing this to a GoPro.

I’m willing to bet that most of the people who are bemoaning the lack of internal 4K think that shot composition happens in Premiere Pro, and wouldn’t know what an external recorder is, or that you can rent one, if you really need one for a shoot, from a pro rental house :) It’s amazing the number of KZbin videos and comments that assert, directly or implicitly, that Sony knows nothing about video or the market for this camera. Quite funny, actually. As for the cost of accessories, the one that makes it possible to use proper ND filters isn’t cheap, but it is a big deal.

+Rory on a Bike we shoot most of our videos in 4K, but mainly as a time saver to save setting up a second camera to crop in (for studio) and for more vlog style content post capture framing from 4K to 1080 makes sense. But all our videos are uploaded in 1080 because even with a big TV Screen, the footage still looks great. Let’s face it, currently most content is viewed on a laptop, tablet or smartphone - desktop and tv users are in the minority. 4K looks great, and will future proof your content (until 8K arrives in 2020), but unless you are a serious filmmaker it isn’t an essential, not really. If you are a serious filmmaker then you will most likely see the benefit of the RX0, as a very small discreet camera with a far superior sensor to any action camera. People just see that it doesn’t shoot 4K, forgetting that it is the sensor that sells this camera... it’s almost 4x bigger than a GoPro or X3000 sensor! I’d rather have 1080 and a decent size sensor than 4K on a smaller one (@richsibley)

I had to turn this off! I am considering unsubscribing. He has lost his mind! The RX0 is crap, trying to say otherwise is a waste of thsi channel space. As to the huge Sony camera he wa waving around that is supposed to compete with the GO Pro 6, perhaps he should have had a GoPro 6 on the desk. This was NOT worth my time. Soemthings you simply cannot UNSEE. This is one of those.
