Great narration, my first job out of school was wiring up mechanical telephone exchanges in the late 70s. They gave us milk to help with the solder fumes
@razenby3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Milk that is a new one!! I worked in a factory in the 80s during by placement from UNI with 30 operators hand soldering and an Arklone CFC bath for every assembly. The place was awash with fumes - sometimes you could see the Arklone fumes that looked like a heat haze on hot tarmac coming across the floor. We are lucky to be alive!!
@paulmurray2803 жыл бұрын
I’m not saying the milk did any good, I have no idea, am still alive though. The solder had three cores of lead in the strand

What do you do if you need to also repair the pads as well? In other words, the pads cracked off with the 30 pin connector?
@razenby3 жыл бұрын
Usually add modification wire or track repairs to reinstate any missing tracks and connections. It can be very time consuming.
@harryhimpson56632 жыл бұрын
great skill there thinner tip would help also whare can i get these connectors i have 2 dock sterios to fix
@razenby2 жыл бұрын
Thinner tip doesn't work for me as I need the reservoir of solder on the tip to flow into the joint. I would use a thinner tip if I were applying a very fine solder to the joint for finer connections. sales@invebo.com has stock or the original connectors.

hey! the metal pins on my iPod Classic 5th gen are misaligned instead of being in a straight line and because of that it won’t charge. any tips on how to straighten them?
@razenby Жыл бұрын
Usually the connector joint fractures where the pins meet the PCB. The only way I know is to change the connector in the Ipod. Check the joint with a spyglass.

Hi The connector is missing on my dock do i have to take it apart for the serial number? I have a few of these collected over the years series one and two are the connectors all the same?

What make and model is the dock? Does it have five or seven holes in the PCB for the through pins?

I don’t wish to deconstruct my old docking station. Would you be able to supply a connecting cable which I could plug into the existing 30 pin docking station connector, with on the other end a lightning connector? I would like to be able to use the old docking station to charge a current Iphone (and play audio if possible). I also have a 30 pin dock in the car, used to charge and play my 2005 IPod Classic, same thing, a connector which would provide charging to a current Iphone. Thank you.

@Magic Smoke Hello, how could I obtain a few of them original quality Japanese connectors, please? I have Roth MC4 with Dock connector wrenched... I *think* it is the same parts as Bose one, and I could do with one (not that I am competent to do the soldering, but hopefully find someone who is locally to do it for me). And, for curiosity, how would you usually de-solder the 30 pin connection with hot air? Thanks (Great tutorial video, BTW)
@razenby4 жыл бұрын
I have the connectors in stock email ark.mail@gmx.com. We do chips with hot air but the connector doesn't solder well by hot air. It can be done but the prep tales to long and often I end up touching up with an iron anyway. If you work out a hot-air technique then I would be interested to know.
