One common statement made is ''Velaikku poga husband permission kuduthutaangala?'. I too didn't realize how toxic the statement was until my brother-in-law explained it to me. He told 'Going to work is your right. No one needs to give you permission'.

Mam, you're so right. But people like sir are not ready to accept the change and reality. Still hanging to old methods and behaviours in the name of culture will not make our society grow.

Yes ezhil said it right. It's all a matter of convenience. Many still point out, disagree and blame the lady for this. I am really hoping this would change atleast when my kids grow up. For this reason itself, I feel marrying an Indian is a big problem

Extension of the topic: In the next generation, we all will have to take care of our own retirement life, whether we like it or not, the reason our parents are dependent on us is they spend whatever little they had on us, whereas we need to look at our kids as separate individuals and help them establish a future at the same we should be self sufficient, to the point we can. I mean I understand the responsibility to take care of my parents after my father's retirement, however, I don't want to, or should not put the burden of taking care of me to my kids, after my retirement.
