Keith Thurman vs. Mario Barrios - A CLOSER LOOK (4K)

At long last, Keith Thurman is set for his ring return.
Thurman and Mario Barrios have struck a deal for a welterweight fight that will headline a Premier Boxing Champions event on Fox pay-per-view on Jan. 29, 2022.
Thurman, 33, will end a careerlong 30-month layoff when he takes on Barrios. Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs) suffered his first pro defeat -- and lost his welterweight title -- in his most recent bout, a split decision against Manny Pacquiao in July 2019.
The Clearwater, Florida, native was floored in Round 1 by the future Hall of Famer but finished strong in an excellent action fight.
Barrios is also coming off a loss. The San Antonio native was stopped by Gervonta Davis in Round 11 of a 140-pound bout in June. Now, Barrios (26-1, 17 KOs) will campaign at 147 pounds.
At 5-foot-10, Barrios possessed uncanny height for the 130- and 135-pound divisions. The 26-year-old even towered over many 140-pounders, and he will again have a height advantage over the 5-7½ Thurman.
But Thurman is undeniably the bigger fighter, a careerlong 147-pounder who owns wins over Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero.
For Thurman, it's a second straight headline appearance on pay-per-view.

This is a very sad look for boxing. If this is really on ppv the number's won't do well.. No one will pay to see Thurman vs a former 140 pounder who's coming up to 147 after a loss to tank davis. Barrios didn’t have any stopping power to slow down Tank. I can’t see him all the sudden moving up to 147 & having more power. And to that I say... who cares? The prospects for both of these guys is not good. Barrios was a Tank cherry pick... and I think he's a cherry pick Thurman. Thurman's career is on life support - he does more talking than fighting. Barrios was champion but he never beat a champion to get the belt he wore. Barrios is a nice guy, and I wish him well. But with his chin, his future as a welter contender doesn't look promising. And Keith, no one wants to fight this guy. At his prime age of 30 he stopped fighting. Who does that?

I really liked Thurman back before all these injuries. I hope he isn't coming back into the game because he needs a paycheck. I feel bad for Thurman because I see him as damaged goods. At one point in Thurman's career, he was looking like he would be boxing's next superstar. Then all these issues with his shoulders came out. I have all the respect for the legendary Pacman but he would not beat a healthy Thurman. Now, this fight between Thurman and Barrios is not a pay-per-view went.
