In Kyokushin , Ippon equals knock out your opponent . Thats all i know :) It does however show the great control the guy has on his techniques! This is respectable ! Osu!

Even with a guard up like boxing, the punch will probably have hit the throat. Gloves give a protection in boxing, but we don't have gloves in karate.

Watching this again, what's remarkable about the point, was not the ashi feint, but the way that the striking arm is absolutely relaxed allowing for instant movement, and that there was absolutely no telepgraphing of the punch, there was not even the slightest pull pack - it just shot straight out. Great stuff.

Ippon. If it technique wasnt so controlled it would have ended the fight. Thus ippon. Full force and the other guy would not have got up again.

Uhm.... wanna come to my dojo? The rules dictate you aren't supposed to follow through on your punch. Reason: you're going into the fight bare knuckled. One mistake and someone gets killed. These shots, minus the control, will take your head off. Don't believe me, go to a Kyokushin or Shotokan dojo (a REAL dojo) and try them out. The reverse punch is their trademark - it's wicked fast, hard to read, and has their full body weight behind it. Miss the block, you'll be visiting a dentist.

it is a "waza- ari" which means technique exists. But since Shiro wasn't planted in the ground, and while Aka had been also attempted zuki, it can never be considered an ippon.

I prefer to have painful arm than painful face or throat. Personnal choice.

shito- ryu, this is point tournament = control. don't be fooled by the quick tsukis. I have practiced karate for 12 years since i was 4. and i learned to control more than anything. but when i had to let it go, id bring bigger guys than me down with a tsuki to solarplexus. one punch. watching this brings memories bak.

Excellent hand-pulling technique. That hand-pull is very useful in tournaments, it makes very difficult to counter or defend when you can't move your arm. It is the perfect application of the back-hand in a typical tsuki.

@Ronin6575 I hear you Ronin... I've seen some really bad injuries caused by some clown totally disrespecting the rules and trying to take someone's head off. These shots are brutal. One mistake and you can kill or permanently injury someone.
