Going to be honest. As a person who was bullied throughout my schooling. I find the protests to be vain and ineffective. Most of my bullies would go on to advocate for anti bullying. These students are probably the ones who saw that video and did nothing to help their fellow students. Most people screaming about anti bullying are/were bullies themselves or sat by while others got bullied.

Last year at my high school, this dude pretended to be my friend and ended up talking about inappropriate topics, threatened me if I didn’t do what he wanted, and even started to sexually harass me. I told the teachers about it but they didn’t really do anything and multiple people have had a problem with the guy. My mental health had been absolutely destroyed during that year.

Not discrediting your experience at all. But the big, obvious difference is that when we were young, it stayed at school for the most part. Nowadays, these kids have no where to run to or hide with all the social media, camera phones, etc. The 90s was tough, but atleast we didn't have to worry about our embarrassing or shameful moments being broadcast to everyone and online forever. Fax, someone made fun of my brother's friend for his parents being dead and when the teachers refused to tell the bully off even after he was trying to start shit by pushing him n stuff he decked him at lunch. The bully got nothing, but my brother's friend got put into isolation for a week where he was in an isolated room for the entire school day and does textbook work and also yelled at him for not just ignoring the bully. Schools never understand that zero-tolerance policies for fights are shit and always benefit bullies over victims who rightfully stand their ground.

I’m thankful that she had the sense to ask me to walk her home that day. I managed to get her out of there while i was jumped by 10+ students. The school did nothing and stated that they were just “misguided” kids. Last year a kid at my daughter's high school got bullied in a restroom and ended up in the hospital. The next day a group of about 10 students found the bully before school (before he got called into the office fit suspension) and those 10 kids stomped that dude to the ground. Of course it was all caught on video, but the kids took justice into their own hands. I'm not saying I agree, but I do understand. But back in my high school days, you need with the wrong person you will get jumped that day by the other person's friends, and maybe have a drive by in your house. The early 90s were wild.

This is why I tell my kids if someone hit you, knock them the hell out. I moved to the US at 11 and for the first year I was bullied relentlessly. On the last day of school I wrapped my hair in a tight bun and kicked a couple of asses that day. Upon return of the new year not a single person messed with me afterwards. Not everyone is resilient or has parents who got your back so if someone you know is being bullied, stand up and do something. I’m 52 now and still don’t take shit from no one.

Unfortunately it's not that easy. I was bullied by several kids in school and didn't really have anybody on my side. A lot of times i had anger built up and was ready to beat the shit out of them, but i stayed composed because i knew, even if i knock the shit out of them that day, the next day i come to school 5 of them will be waiting behind the school for me and beat the living crap out of me. My niece was in 8th grade and another student told her he was going to rape her after school. She told the teacher and the teacher gave him a DETENTION so she could leave earlier than him because they were both walkers. When my sister found out she flipped her stuff and threatened to sue the school and then came to find out he had been harassing multiple girls and the school never told his parents. He was expelled and luckily he never messed with her again but the fact that the school knew and basically did nothing to protect these girls was crazy.

On god. Bullying from before highschool still affects me to this day. And the bullying I got from highschool even AFTER I graduated still has affected me. I can't let it go. It messed with my self esteem and people now that I've graduated say I'm pretty and I'm beautiful and all these other compliments and I just can't accept it. I don't know how to accept it and I think people are just being sarcastic and making fun of me just because. But no their actually being genuine. But I can't get over people always talking me down and now when I get compliments I don't know what to do. I don't acceot them and I don't believe them. I don't trust people because I've been backstabbed and I used to just be shy. I was quiet but really fruendly to people but over time from being bullied I became super withdrawn I wouldn't tell my parents anything. And people always told me I complainted too much and to suck it up and deal with it. And why wanted to move ME because of what SOMEONE else was doing. Which did not help. Not to mention I got picked on by a high school teacher. Not to mention most of my teachers showed FAVORITISM and ignored me when I told them my problems so I just kept my head down and keot to myself even my friends told me I complained too much and no one protected or defended me unless it was "SERIOUS". That still haunts me and as much as I try to let it go I can't. I really try and let it go. I really do but I can't. So now I don't trust people. When people try and do nice things for me I don't let them. When they try and spend time with me I make up excuses because even with my 'friends' I get lost in the background and forgotten. Even with my friends. So I stay by myself and mind me own business and perfer to do everything myself unless it's with family. I don't trust my friends with nothing important to me. It's how I protect myself. I don't think EVERYONE is out to get me. I just learned to stay by myself because how can someone hurt your feelings or hurt you physically if there is no one around you to do it. I still talk to them but ion share stuff even after highschool and we've known eachother for 5 or 6 years. I just only really rely on myself for important things. That also might be why I don't get into relationships either. Because I don't really feel any romanic feelings for people because when I did I got embarrassed, made fun of, or those people betrayed my trust. The very people that were supposed to love me. Granted any 'love' you have in high-school might not last or be 'real love' but still. Those are the building blocks that shape who you are and if something is missing or damaged and broken it leaves holes and scars, and cracks on who you are. You are missing things or can't handle certain things or would rather not deal with it. Don't get it twisted I can handle myself and talk to people but it's nothing more really than hi and bye for the msotpart. I don't like making new friends and nor am I good at it unless we have something in common if we don't then I push on. I hate that I am this way and I try and work on myself more and more to not he so cold and sometimes my friends have to remind me that I'm being super aloof or cold to them and that they care and I can trust them. They have to remind me that they care even if I somethimes get lost in the background they don't mean to do it but they do. I know a lot of this is my fault and I'll take responsibily for it of course but I will also hold other people accountable for being the assholes thar made me like that. I used ti be really kind, and sweet and friendly even if you didn't like me and slowly I became cold and moody and snappy and quiet and withdrawn. And I stick that way. When it comes to new people I don't really talk to them unless they talk to me or I have too. With the very few friends I have I laugh with them whenever were together mostly but even then I feel like I don't really belong. But enough ranting I'm prolly going to get lectured about how to grow up and let that shit go and that you graduated hughschool and middles school and to let that shit go grow thick skin so I'm going to leave it at that. It's nothing I haven't heard before. It hasn't been the first time I heard it and it won't be the last. I just wanted to get that off my chest. I was even bullied at work when I worked at Taco Bell. Made my life there hell. And I worked at 2 different one. A corporate and franchise and they both made my life hell. The first one which was franchise more than the corperate but still. Back when I was a senior in high school, this one guy got caught in the bathroom watching "adult films" and messin with his piece and a group of kids recorded it and sent it everywhere. Everybody was watching it and sharing it and had everyone laughing and joking about it. 4 days later the kid jumped off the 3rd story and took his own life. For the next two weeks everybody was spread anti-bullying messages, but the hypocrisy comes when the people shouting "stop bullying" were the same ones who watched the video, laughed at it, and shared it with more people.

I was bullied real hard. Until I finally snapped believed “fck it, I don’t care if I get suspended” and IMMEDIATELY trying to throw down anytime they said anything. Getting loud and making sure EVERYONE saw them go “naw man, naw. You’re crazy”. And when they would call my cell at night to talk sht, I finally snapped one day at dinner and said they better meet me right now or I’d burn their house down with their entire family in it (never happened. But I decided to go “crazy” so people stopped messing with me). After that, I was NEVER messed with like that again. But going through it made me totally different. It gave me severe anger issues. TO THIS DAY when someone say anything messed up I feel that explosive anger - and I immediately want to get in their face and either fight or shut them down. But we all know fights aren’t worth it. People can die and you lose your entire life in jail, etc… it’s just absurd. It feels like the entire legal system is geared to people to intimidate, bully, etc… but if you do anything to stop it - THAT is when people step in. Which is why I feel you have to show you’re ready to go scorched earth when someone tests you. Make an example of it. I hate that this is the reality. It makes me angry. I went from a really happy person who was always smiling to walking around and being pissed off ALL THE TIME. The worst part is they all tried being friends later on and showing respect. But I just couldn’t get over what happened. I just could not to let go. I struggled with that for an ENORMOUS % of my life. It wasn’t until some few years ago I could let it go. Which I have to thank one of my amazing ex’s (who was Buddhist). She taught me how holding onto anger is just like holding onto a burning coal - you only hurt yourself. It does nothing to help you, instead only hurts you and holds you back.

And when they would call my cell at night to talk sht, I finally snapped at dinner and said they better meet me right now or I’d burn their house down with their entire family in it (never happened. But I decided to go “crazy” so people stopped messing with me). After that, I was NEVER messed with. But going through it made me totally different. It gave me severe anger issues. TO THIS DAY when someone say anything messed up I feel that explosive anger - and I immediately want to get in their face and either fight or shut them down. But we all know fights aren’t worth it. People can die and you lose your entire life in jail, etc… it’s just absurd. It feels like the entire legal system is geared to people to intimidate, bully, etc… but if you do anything to stop it - THAT is when people step in. Which is why I feel you have to show you’re ready to go scorched earth when someone tests you. Make an example of it. I hate that this is the reality. It makes me angry. I went from a really happy person who was always smiling to walking around and being pissed off ALL THE TIME.

I had a student at my school commit suicide, our school made us give her a moment of silence. I feel like most students don’t really care about bullying, in fact, most manage to participate in bullying in some type of way. It’s only when the person dies that others really start to care, and that’s the way people are in general. They turn you into a martyr when you die, and say all of these good things about you, but if you hadn’t died their feelings towards you would be completely different. They act like they always “cared”, but in reality they didn’t. It’s mind blowing to me the amount of people who will laugh when they’re not on the receiving end of verbal or physical bullying, and then wants to “protest” to “end bullying”. Not saying there aren’t any people who genuinely are against bullying, but that’s what I noticed. The schools don’t help either, in a lot of ways, schools help promote a mob mentality.

Nerdy black guys get bullied a lot. By white and black students, I think. My story might not be shit, but when i was in school I looked like a jock or whatever because my dad was a bodybuilder and a big guy so I was born with the genetics, but got my mom's brain. I'm a super nice and quiet type of guy, but people picked up on it and saw me as an easy target because I looked tough but I wouldn't fight people or even push back against bullying. So what happened is the other tough guys would constantly try to fight me since it was an easy fight and I would give up quickly. I didn't have any confidence and it messed with me my while life. I got beat up, had my eye punched into my head by some meth head's kid and got hit in the balls all the time, had people fucking with me constantly. It drove me to join the Marines so I could learn to fight, and I STILL get "bullied" a little at 29. It made me angry and hostile towards people. One of the things I remember was whenever I asked to use the bathroom, this kid who was like a foot taller than me would ask to go after me, then he followed me in there and would beat my ass in the bathroom. If I saw him or another guy on the street, I'm not sure that I wouldn't immediately whoop their ass. It really fucks with your mind, especially when you're a kid

I went to a really good high school. Not that there wasn’t bullying, but it wasn’t tolerated. I was bullied for about 2 days. My history teacher saw it and the next day I called down to the office. The boys who bullied me were separated in different rooms told if their stories didn’t line up their punishment would double, and I was asked by the school police officer if I wanted to press charges for assault. And they didn’t even physically harm me. For the rest of the school year, September to May, they spent every lunch period cleaning and they were kicked off their respective sports teams even though one was a really good player and won games for the team. That’s why we didn’t have people killing themselves. That’s why we didn’t have terrible bullying. That’s why kids weren’t afraid to ask teachers for help. Not because the kids were somehow better but because it wasn’t tolerated and was made clear that even off of school grounds an altercation between students would result in school punishment. It’s possible and I’m tired of all these grown ass adults making excuses for their incompetence and apathy.

Yea my school didn’t have the best track record for bullying but I do remember when my friend snapped and beat the shit out of his bully, he was given a one days suspension while his bully was given a one week suspension. They couldn’t condone violence but recognized he deserved a lesser punishment. My friend was met by high fives and cheers when he came back.

Kids are evil, as a teacher I once had to deal with someone bullying a guy who just survived brain cancer. They bullied him for his permanent balance, almost blindness and his fear of bacteria (they caused the tumor). The bullies would go get water and spit it at him for no reason. The guy won a competition at school a few weeks ago, they only thing he said was " I hope someone will like me now". That was one of the major reasons to why I wanted to become a teacher

Sadly the matter of bullying is basically hopeless. As repulsive and unfortunate as it is, it's a part of human social behaviour. As such any preventative measures are always going to be less effective than you'd like as human nature will always triumph. Fact of the matter is you've just gotta hope kids are strong enough to get through it. And ideally that adversity will act as a catalyst for greater perspective, empathy and understanding. I think the most important thing you can teach a High Schooler is perspective. And one part of that is that, despite what they think, High School will be over VERY quickly and as soon as they graduate their ENTIRE life will be different. They'll probably never see those scumbags again but if they do now ALL the rules change in THEIR favour. It's no longer school bullying and attacking. It's Criminal Threatening, Assault, Battery, Harassment, Theft, Destruction of Property, etc, etc. There are real consequences for that type of behaviour as an adult in the real world.

I think parents are complacent and uninterested in disciplining their children. As a father of 3, I would gladly roam the halls to keep this shit from happening. I’m willing to bet that if the school asked for help, there would be at least a few parents, or community members that would gladly keep the peace in the halls and help with this issue. Some sort of creep filter would need to be in place, but I would gladly volunteer to either roam the halls, help with investigations, or whatever needs doing. From personal experience, the school system doesn’t care that much, so let the real adults step in and school these kids. They wouldn’t even have to pay me to give classes all year about tough life lessons, and wisdom from an old ass geezer(32) those kids need guidance, and not just a half hour every other week, as was my case.

when I learned my daughter was being bullied in school, I went there and confronted the kid and told her that if she did not stop, I will talk to her parents and her teachers. when my other daughter was hurt by another kid I remprimanded him in front of his grandmother. I was bullied profusely in elementary and middle school. In second grade, two kids beat me and kicked me while I was on the ground. I ended up with deep tissue bruising in my ribcage. Told the teachers, nothing happened, no consequences at all. In fifth grade I fought the kid bullying me and he stopped. In middle school I started swinging on every kid who picked on me. I learned that violence is the only answer. What a horrible lesson for a young man to learn. I'm just glad I've gotten over it and learned to deal with my problems differently.

Learned the same lesson. I was bullied and hit for years. Then I grew bigger and learned martial arts. Anyone I ever hit deserved it though. I regret nothing and I tell people that two things kept me sane during the time I was bullied. 1. Never bend or avoid anything out of fear. If they are hitting you because they find your very existence annoying, annoy them more. Make them avoid you because you don't break and that's no fun. 2. Go somewhere else and find friends and do other things. Make sure you have people that don't treat you like shit around other than your parents so that the bullies aren't the only ones to give you an opinion of yourself. I think the second one was what gave me the strength to do the first and to later start hitting back.

I was bullied mercilessly when I was a kid. Looking back, I was pretty hard to deal with for people my age. Therefore, getting thumped on a weekly basis was my life. I never had any support from any of the administration or anyone in authority. Even when it happened right in front of them. Nothing changed. Anytime I fought back, I got in trouble too. I am still grateful that I had teachers who gave an f, cause otherwise I might be totally ruined now. I took things for a long time...then reported it. First the responsibile teacher tried to counsel me and the bully talking it out. Result: nothing. Took a little more and went straight to "I wanna be transfered" and the teacher agreed. Luckily she was a good observer and my bully really had a demonic aura. She had no trouble believing me and also went off on her. People who have no emotional intelligence and dont give and f about things that are outside of their timetable, should not be teachers. Honestly, what bothered me more than when I was bullied and assaulted in 7th grade, with the school doing absolutely nothing about it, was when I was attacked again in 9th grade but fought back. Instead of treating it like self-defense, which it was, the school tried to charge both of us with assault. I was bullied hard in High School (UK version). I went to my Guidance Teacher for help every week because it was that bad. I was told by her that I was the problem and I should suck it up. Eventually I got in two fights with some of my worst bullies. Both I got excluded for; the first time after he threw the first punch I decked him. He burst into tears and I got everything thrown at me. The second things escalated quickly and I lost my temper so much so that I blacked out in a fit of rage… what I remember was I came out on top and the whole school followed me home (I never got home that day) because I was fighting against a mob. Bonus: My tormentor, a very specific person. He bullied me every day of my school life until I moved, he now preaches about how important Mental Health is. I get he had his own problems but it definitely makes me a bit bitter to see him acting like this Paragon when he ruined my life for many years.

Damn man... Hearing about this got me thinking about my brother growing up. He used to get bullied due to a handicap and I remember feeling so angry at those kids. Our mom was a real one though, she put us in a van and together we tracked down the kids, and confronted them in front of their parents and made them apologize. Don't remember if the bullying continued afterwards but when our mom asked if we wanted to move, my brother was all for it and I agreed even though I was relatively happy there

My dad did the the same thing. But he made be teach them a lesson. I got bullied by three teens who were two grades higher than me. My dad told me that in combat, there is no such thing as a fair fight. He taught me to fight dirty. So I caught one of the teens outside of school alone and kicked that a-hole in his balls as hard as I could. When he hit the ground. I kicked him in his balls about 5 more times until he coughed up blood. Yes, I got arrested, but it was so worth it. I never got picked on again at that school. Now, this was in the 1990s. Things are different now.

Me and my ex did the same for my daughter when she was getting bullied. We turned up looking full trench coat mafia at the end of the day as the kids were coming out of school and my ex says as loudly as possible "Point out the kids that are bullying you!" She didn't have to point them out, those boys ran like their asses were on fire. We found out later this group of boys had been bullying a lot of kids but it took us showing up and calling them out for the school to act on it.

Bullying for me and my sister was a nightmare. I was hit, slapped, shoved, even thrown one time...a girl also hung goose droppings in my face. Someone hung my sister by her shirt on a coat hanger and a group of boys ganged up on her and beat her up. That's not even counting the amount of rumors and insults aimed at us. This gives me flashbacks of an incident in third grade (back in 1999) where I was assaulted by 4 or 5 boys after a soccer game during recess. The teachers on recess duty were busy escorting the children already lined up inside. I managed to barely break out of the pile up by ripping my shirt, and I sprinted inside, screaming for a teacher. I’ll never forget the look of the first faculty member that looked me dead in the eyes, heard me pleading and begging for help while bloodied and clothes torn, and he just…🤷, and watched as the boys burst through the hallway doors, looked at the teacher, teacher turned his head as if to say “carry on,” and proceed to beat me to a pulp. As punishment, they got detention (ALONG WITH ME FOR NOT GETTING A TEACHER TO HELP 🤬). A couple days later, the same group of kids ran up on me, but I was ready this time. I whipped out a pocket knife, and they didn’t even try me… but they did tell a teacher on me and got me suspended for 3 days. From that day on, I always fought back. Sure, I got suspended a bunch for defending myself, but I’d rather get suspended than beaten/robbed/severely injured/or worse. The school system is pathetic. Idk if anything’s changed in the last 20 years or so, but seeing this, it doesn’t seem like it.

He was picked on (not necessarily because he was Asian, because I went to a pretty multicultural school, but because he is a bit of an eccentric). One day, I heard of a boy that stabbed his bully in the head with a pencil. It was such a wild story, front to back, that I had to meet this person as a curiosity and as a fellow outsider. When I finally met him, he had taken to tripling down on his uniqueness, challenging anyone to step to him. He was in my history class and started wearing a large sombrero and was seen eating weed like it was broccoli. 😆 We made fast friends, and he’s definitely one of the most memorable people I have ever met.

Same. Parent intervention, admin discussions, and class separation did nothing but fuel the bully. The only thing that worked was old-fashioned resistance in the form of verbal rejection in the beginning and when it came time, physical defense. Only required one instance and it stopped. If I had better guidance as a child, the bullying wouldn't have gone on for five years. But it did finally come to an end when I decided to ball up my fists and fight back. It's never about winning a fight, as much as having a presence of resistance. Force chooses the path of least resistance.

I swear that thing is tiring. From my personal experience I escped bullying thanks to 0 tolerance policy too. I have a constitution where I cry easily for small things since little, adding to that my somewhat meek personality I became a target but my brother told me that if someone bullied me I should strike back and so I did. Every time it happened, I responded to it immediately. The last act that I did that definetely stopped all my bullies to do it again was when I hit them back although our teacher was few meters away from us. I wasn't caught but it was that thing that showed that guy that it'll always be eye for an eye. What you can see is that they are also scared of fighting. For the rest of my school years no one dared to do bully me again because for sure I wasn't an easy target anymore. It's only years later that I found out that I had Asperger syndrome and without my brother advice that acted like a trigger for me, my school years would have been hellish. Never comply to threats as it'll only escalate further and further as a meek response will enhance that behavior like a vicious cycle. School won't really help and even if they did it'll only be minimal and won't eradicate bad behaviors that some children show.

We talk about helping/protecting these kids by speaking up but wait till the very last minute and then something extreme happens. I worked at a day care for children up to 12. I got fired because I don't play with children. You will respect me or I will harrass the parents to death. Turns out the owner said they were getting too many complaints about me. The problem is theres no discipline at home or at the care center. We are the adults. We should be working together but they don't want to be bothered. Nope they just keep firing and rehiring. When you meet the parents you know why their children are little bitches. Yes I said bitches. Believe you me they know what they're doing. Before they let me go I shared my thoughts about the job and the way the children are being dealt with and that they weren't paying me enough. Turns out I don't like children but my own. If your child have no respect don't bring them around me. I'm all for children having grand time but I don't care for spoiled children. Keep your child because I discipline mine. As someone who was bullied and was a bully, I know that pain from both sides. Feeling ignored by adults because you're a male and they expect you to be tough enough to deal with physical and verbal abuse from older students. Learning you have the size to push your weight around at school as a way to deal with an unhappy home life. It's not right. I wish I could take those moments back. But I've done what I can to be a better person and deal with my mental trauma in a healthier manner as an adult.

A friend of mine used to get bullied in high school. When she told her parents and her parents contacted the school, they said she just had to ignore her bullies. How could she ? They would follow her everywhere and it escalated to the point where they would become physically violent. All of this just because she was an excellent student. Never bothered a soul. In fact, she used to have trouble to speak up cause she was really shy. It was heartbreaking to witness. She got depressed and her parents decided to enroll her in a different school out of town. I can’t even imagine what would have happened to her if they didn’t make that decision.

I still vividly remember a girl bullying a bunch of us in PE in 6th grade (12-ish years old.) Everyone was grumbling about her, complaining about her behavior, wishing she'd stop. So I told her off. She starts acting like the victim, and the very people grumbling about being bullied by her, stood up for HER, affirmed she was the victim of me telling her she was being a jerk. I still can't believe it to this day. They had a choice to let her know that she was being cruel, but they chose to pretend they were suddenly okay with how she was treating them a few minutes after complaining before.

When I was at school in the UK, my bag would be routinely thrown accross the room as the studants taunted me and bullied me in the middle of class. My best friend growing up had a little sister that was getting bullied in school, by two boys in our grade. So, he and his older brother heard about this, promptly tracked down the bullies to a nearby skatepark, and proceeded to beat the ever loving shit out of them. That was that, no more bullying. I remember everyone, including the parents of all the kids, just kind of accepted it and moved on. I think bullies are people that haven't learned the lesson that sometimes someone bigger and stronger than you can just come up and do whatever they please to you, and being an asshole is a great way to invite that into your life.

I still have hundreds of scars from harming myself, and attempting to take my own life. I dropped out of school the second time i tried to take my life. None of my offenders were ever punished, however I was always in ISS (In school suspension) which made me fall behind in school work, and eventually held back. Which lead to more bullying, until i threw in the towel and left school. School is such a traumatic thing for me, that it heavily effects my life, on the DAILY. I struggle because I did not finish school. I have tried to get my GED and gone to adult classes, it is still a struggle, it is still hard for me to learn when my brain shuts down from trauma just being near a "school".

Yeah this is super common in high school. I remember at the beginning of my high school years someone had put a paper in the box that was meant for people to report bullying and harassment anonymously. He basically wrote on the paper “This is a test to see if anyone actually checks this.” And then wrote the date next to it. 4 years later when I graduated I decided to check it out of curiosity. The paper was still there. They don’t care. They’d rather give people a Saturday detention (speaking from experience) for having a paper copy of your ID with a meme on it as the picture on the BACK of your actual ID than actually stop people from being violently assaulted. I know about 5 instances in which a friend of mine was beaten in the hallways or in class. If they didn’t fight back they were gaslight into believing it was their fault. If they fought back and lost they would be suspended along with the person who started it. If they fought back and won they would be suspended while the other guy got detention or something minor.

I had a kid who I hung out with a lot and he would punch me, twist my arm, squeeze my hand, push me, grapple my arms really hard. He was much stronger than me so he could do all that to me and I couldn't push back, I didn't for a long time. He went and choked me once and I almost passed out, he did that in my parents house. It was all just goofing around to him. When I was in high school I was more aware of what he was doing to me and I would lightly push back against the things he did. One day before school started in my Junior year I was listening to music with my earbud in cause that was something that I loved to do back in high school. The same dude went up to me and yanked my earbud out when I was really into what I was listening to. When he did that I slapped the crap out of him. All he did was push me against the lockers twice and walked away angry. After that he hardly ever did that stuff to me again. I completely agree, it's never too early to teach your kids to have boundaries and not let people walk all over them.

I've experienced a lot of bullying, but the one example that stays in my head is when I was among the bullying. God, that felt so good back then. For once being part of the group. For once laughing with them, and being laughed at. It felt so good, and 20 years later and still can't stop feeling disgusted with myself. I wish I could have known how my actions then would haunt me now. Memories of highschool thirty years ago with my buddies at the time tormenting this one girl will arise completely unbidden from time to time and it makes me mentally recoil in disgust as though I were kinda spiritually dipped from head to toe in something foul that won't come off. I was such a horrid P.o.S. to her, I wish I knew how to reach her in the present to beg her forgiveness. The memories haunt and torment me, but I'm not the victim - I can't begin to imagine how much more traumatizing it was/is for her and I'm so so sorry. We were all teens, nobody is worrying about other random teens... we're all stuck in our own little bubble, where everything happening to us is the biggest deal. It's only after something like this that anyone pays attention, but even then it's like a 2 days b4 everything is back to normal

I hate that I agree. The first few seconds have narration that the kids are angry and fearful... But they're smiling and laughing. It feels like a reason to get out of class, and I'm sure that some in attendance are bullies themselves. It's depressing.

This is why I’ve taught both my son and daughter to fight back. Call me violent, call me a bad mom, but at the end of the day no one really has your back *except for you!* They’re both high schoolers, and believe me, my family has paid a price for my kids standing up for themselves and for their friends. But I can say for sure my kids can defend themselves and they don’t get picked on.

When I was growing up if I got in a fight my mum never questions me ...she only asks did you hit first once she confirms that I didn't she's ready to go to any length to protect me ...I never was a bully but I also cannot be bullied ,when my younger sister did something remotely close to bullying we all took turns shaming her after she got an ass whopping from my mum..and that's how I plan to raise my kids . don't be a bully but be ready to defend yourself..
