I'm 46, work in tech and live close to NYC where salaries are generally much higher...I just made it $125k salary this year after working in this field for 20 years. Single, unmarried guy here. I started working in a blue collar field when I was 20. 60+ hours a week, my friends were just the guys working as much as me. Many women, if they want to date near and around their age range 20-25, have to date men of "lower standard", and support them to become more successful. I personally know women and even female friends that complain about not being able to date young successful men around my age and I kinda just smile. They're just too late. My husband makes 6 figures. When he hit a certain level in his career financially he went from kinda coasting doing day to day, 8-4 to he is ALWAYS working! I can see why it burns these guys out, too. They’re grinding. Now, they dangled another huge pay bump and promotion to him, so he’s gotta keep up the grind. He’s missed nearly every holiday, family function, you name it on his way to this level. After the last huge raise the levels of work expected increased with it. That’s how it works. And at 6 figures we don’t travel like that, or spend money like that. Six figures doesn’t go as far as these girls think it does. My husband has 6 weeks vacation each year. When he’s able to take one, know how he’s spending it normally? Around the house. Fixing things, sleeping a lot, relaxing. Traveling isn’t for everyone. Especially now. The men that make the type of money these women are looking for are at the office 6 days a week, 12+ hours a day, and when they have a day off all they want to do is relax at home. You hit the nail on the head with this. They’re usually over 40, married, and have kids. I’m in my mid 20s and so is my boyfriend. He's an electrical engineer entering a masters program and I was a pre med major about to start my next advanced degree. Both of us have been advised to make friends with other STEM people who are pursuing terminal degrees because most people don't understand the time commitment. I want to be a physican and I will be dedicated to school until my 30s the same is true with my boyfriend who wants a terminal degree too. Most people like the fancy titles but don't realize how much time we spend trying to obtain our goal. Half of the people we meet tell us our relationship is going to fail because we don't spend enough quality time together. In their eyes we've been together too long (4 years) to not settle down and have kids. Most people aren't honest with themselves enough to realize it's not the money they want it's comfort in life. The 100,000+ salary life is not that type of comfortable life. It's work your asses off most of the year but can afford extra services that give you more time to do other things. Like a nanny, cleaning services, lawn services, or even expensive vacations but not a whole lot of free time on a regular basis.

My comment was merely pointing out the fact that people tend to do what you’ve accused me of, which is, project their feelings about what makes a good life on to me and my life. If you actually read the entirety of what I said I pointed out that most people want to just live a comfy life and are perplexed by mine and my boyfriend’s decision to not just settle down right now but to actually pursue our ambitions. My post was a agreeing w/ Aba and Preach while detailing how the life we plan to live comes w/ differences that most people never consider when they think of what they consider to be a prestigious title or a certain income level. I.e. having the prestigious title/ 6 figure income creates a life that allows you to pay for services to buy you time on a regular day versus a comfy life where you have more time to do those things yourself/ with your family. My mom at her most recent job just broke 100k. She turns 62 this year, and I could not tell you when she last worked an 8 hour day. It may have been before I was born, and I'm 33. She makes that by basically never taking off. When she went to Disney World with my dad, she had to badger the people at her work to let her access her work e-mails from her phone so she could keep working. While using her vacation days. Seems like as a whole, our society is shooting itself in the foot. Its putting the celebrity lifestyle on a pedestal while simultaneously shrugging off accountability/responsibility for what it takes to actually get there and maintain it (or at a minimum demonstrating a willingness to understand). It was actually something we had to work out in our marriage, because I was frustrated that he’d work all night and never take vacation or if he did, he’d be grumpy and sneaking in work. I had to go to therapy and accept that his work is his passion. We now have an agreement that he will take vacation if I don’t give him grief that he works during all down time and probably late at night. I’m just happy he does stuff with us. He took a start up job recently and everyone warned us about the hours and I just laughed. “He’s already working like that. We might as well benefit from it.” Meanwhile I’m the kind of woman who won’t replace a pair of socks with holes for months. I just liked his mind. My original plan was to be a hippie and live in a cardboard box. The irony right? I’m not talking fancy vacations btw. I just want to road trip to see my brother in PA😂. I am happy that we literally have no worries about money which feels like the definition of wealth. Between his earning habits and my spending habits we spend so much less than our means and we like it that way. These people are nuts.

I’ve tried to enjoy my work more as a stay at home Mom and now that my kids are about to all be in school I’m going back to school for something I tend to do all the time whether anyone pays me for it or not:) It’s definitely not a bad thing. Agreed. When I was making 125K, I had NO time for vacations and crap. I'm pretty sure I had only something around 6-7 days off PER YEAR. Full-time days off. Not I worked 8am-12pm, and then could do whatever I wanted for the rest of my day on a Sunday. Nope. Now I'm comfy at 67K. I get weekends off, 4 weeks/year off and medical leave if needed. It honestly just blows me away when I meet up with people or have women come approach me. "You gave up a large salary and manager position for 'normal'? 27 year old guy here who chose to still live with his parents as I'm trying to save money while running a business. I drive an old beat down 2005 venture van, I'm in good shape I work out a lot. And I see myself having a bright future. I would say I'm fairly put together I've been told and I'm also fairly charismatic as well as my business has required me to be so. I stand by personal values and always seek to improve myself too. It's weird, because the harder I work the more confident I become. The harder I work the more I realize I'm a catch, someone very desirable in the making. I understand how, my shitty van and living with my parents may be a turn off which is fair. But it's clear as day to me that if a girl wanted my long term trust it's better they support me now than at the finish line. Yet, thou I hardly can be bothered to put more effort in dating rn. I feel very much invisible to women unless I have the materialistic things to flex. Thou I do love these things as I work in fashion, however that doesn't mean I'm shallow. I also understand the importance of a budget. I feel privileged thinking about how my one parent kept us in a comfortable home for 5 with our own rooms, school and extra curricular for years and years in his scarily underpaying jobs, even when the wider economy was a mess our parents never let us feel the brunt of the storm. As a software engineer, I make $80k salary straight outta college at 23. I also had a son back in 2020, so it took me an extra year because I was interning and had Co-Ops with different companies. I sacrificed friends, even now I still sacrifice spending time with my family. I’m looking to expand my investment portfolio before I hit $90k at my job, that way that $90k is really $100-$115k depending on how much effort I put into buying properties. But what I can’t wrap my head around with most women my age, is the not cooking, cleaning, etc. And expecting a man to take care of me, and then wondering why he cheats with the maid, or has a mistress, or whatever the case may be. Like you expect a man to hold you down but you can’t even hold water long enough to get paid for it.

During our 5 years together we have both been, students, in minimum wage jobs, unemployed, or even living with parents. My dad owns an architecture firm and is an associate professor. Done malls, hospitals, office buildings, housing complexes, the lot. Has a PhD and a post doctorate. There was a time when I was 9 when I saw him one month out of a whole year because he had an opportunity to further his career and make more money in a different country. Even when he was home, he always flew or drove to some city for work. Everything these guys are saying is true. You have to be damn near psychotic to make the amount of money these women are looking for their man to make. and living without a dad figure must have left concequences for you - for boys, they learn from fathers how to control agressive and sexual agressive impulses (especially in a way father acts with mother), for girls how to have relashionshipo with a male - so boys without it are agressive, beat their girlfriends, have trouble with law, are easy to follow cults etc, and girl work sketchy jobs (sexual in nature like onlyfans, stripping, escort), or change partners a lot, going from partner to partner, and or have really agressive boys as partners. They have no concept of how much work it takes to make that level of wealth, and if they TRULY cared about actually having a relationship with that kind of man, then they'd know that a relationship in that context is pretty much non-existent. You won't see him. He'll be emotionally and physically unavailable, so your only comfort will be his money. Now if that's ALL you're interested in, then you're a gold digger who only wants to spend HIS money while you pay for you and your friends activities and sleep with your personal trainer. Women these days are so vapid and disillusioned when it comes to knowing what is truly GOOD for them on an emotional level, but it's not really their fault. Celebrity worship, fake Instagram culture, instant gratification, minimal education, and single parent households ALL contribute to this emotionally (and physically) retarded generation. I'm trying my best as a father of two girls to show them love, and to teach them by example through my relationship with my wife/their mother how a healthy relationship functions. It's such an uphill battle in this day and age to deprogram what they learn out in the world, and teach them The Way.

The irony is that the majority of guys who are making over 100k in their 20s would probably be "too boring" for these girls. I get the vibe that they are expecting athletes and CEOs but in my experience it's just going to be engineers, consultants, and small business owners. I also think it's interesting what Preach said about how these girls won't have the opportunity to even high-earning guys if they don't also make that kinda money. As someone in their 20s making over 100k, nearly everyone I know both male and female, is also working in similar kinds of jobs and making similar amounts of money so it doesn't really factor into dating that much. Obviously I have friends from outside my industry that earn a more normal salary, but it's definitely true that people segregate themselves somewhat.

What he meant was 'likes attract likes' and 'birds of a feather flock together'. So if you're rich, chances are you're gonna be surrounded by rich people. If you're average, you're gonna be surrounded by average people. Most rich folk live in areas/cities where there's money. Most gals are average thus aren't near these kinds of places. Plus add in the fact that rich people are a rare breed so finding one is hard. On top of that, the problem with having such high standards is that the person they describe will most likely have a similar list of standards. If you happen to meet a rich person but you're average, chances are they won't even bother looking at you because you're not in their circle or their level. It's the same with average guys wanting super model looking women. Is this always the case? No, but majority of the time it is.

I am female and I have had 2 long term relationships with men that act like these girls. Didn't want to work hard, I made the majority of the money, which is fine, but would then complain about us not having time together or that we only did/buy something worth a lot once or twice a year. I was working my ass off to support a man child that threw a tantrum when I had to say no. I don't care how much a guy makes, it's whether he's trying. Relationships are a partnership. I always have to laugh when people see a famous musician's life as a 24/7 playground. I've had many experiences working with musicians, being one myself over the last couple of decades and I have toured many times. 80% of the time of a "famous" musician is spent waiting. Whether it's waiting in the bus on the journey to the next place, waiting for food, waiting for soundchecks, waiting for the next journalist to interview you, waiting for a chance to take a shower, waiting for showtime, waiting for your chance to shine on stage, waiting for the fans after the show, waiting on the gear to be loaded up, waiting in hotel lobbies, waiting for the bus to drive to the next venue, etc. Sure, you can do stuff while you're waiting and the attention in between (and especially the show itself) can be exciting, but once you've done it 200 times a year for over 20 years with the same people and it becomes routine, it mainly feels like you're constantly waiting on something.

It's hard work and it can be pretty stressful at times. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun job, but it's a job none the less. And if it's a band that still records albums, the downtime in-between tours is often used to record in a studio away from home. Or traveling. A lot of traveling.

Having been one of the 6 figure mid twenties guys, I can tell you it is a hard, tiring, lonely lifestyle. From the start at 18 my social life was gone. I focused solely on work. I had zero friends aside from close ones from home that I didn't speak to for near a decade aside from just saying hey a few months apart. I had people approach me looking for a relationship and the only thing that went through my mind was no, you'd be taking me away from work. Frankly you don't notice it at the time, but when you look back, I was miserable. The only saving grace was being able to plan for a month or two every two years or so and say I'm going on vacation. Then I'd go to Japan for a few months. Now hitting 30 next year I look back and I have minor regrets. Most of them just social. It's lonely as all hell. But that's the sacrifice you gotta make. Some people cannot handle that.

At the start, it was more of just the opportunity showed up and I decided to take it. Most of it was going with the motions and seeing where it went. It quickly started turning into a larger and larger portion of my life until it became something that consumed most of it. I didn't really have an end goal in mind. It wasn't even something I particularly enjoy. But I did it anyway. Now, I do have a goal, and I'm pushing to achieve that. With the new criteria after I hit 30 to force myself to become more social, go to more gatherings. Find someone etc. Etc.

I remember once upon a time when I was doing personal protection, I was making that kind of money. But I had zero family life, 0 personal life, every single relationship I was in was doomed from the beginning. Also I know from guys who were making even way more than me, they were in the same situation. To make that kind of money calls for sacrifice, and it takes a certain type of woman to stick through that type of relationship. Because you're always traveling when you make that kind of money, you're always at work when you make that kind of money, you're always on call when you make that kind of money. Imagine being on vacation with your girl, but you have to keep your phone on you just in case, and if it does ring you're now leaving in the middle of your vacation to go back to work. I won't say it's just women, because I know a lot of guys who have the same type of foolish thoughts in their head. But we are becoming a very disillusion people upon what it takes to make serious money.
