Not only grumblers, many 'complaint kings and queens'. Thunders roar, little rains fall. Yaya papaya!

Absolutely true. If Singapore has no credible defence, Malaysia or Indonesia will move in.especially Indonesia like in East Timor and West Irian which is racially distinct from Indonesian.

To my surprise, many National Service men turned up. Personally, I think too much gov made comforts, and readily budgets has crippled many of locals. Sigh….. old tough generation has gone.

National Service men who turned up could have taken leave or off with the approval of their superiors. That does not lead to an erosion of the effectiveness of our defence force. I think the fact that said national service men and other young people turned up and asked questions is a good sign that the young generation is willing to play an active part in moulding the future of Singapore.

what a immature and simplistic comment you are making. I agree with shanjunyeo that it is gratifying to see National Servicemen and other younger people attending and asking good questions about the issues that Mr Kausikan brought up. It shows that they are taking ownership of the part they will play in the years ahead. Yes, while the older generation are undoubtedly tough and built Singapore into what it is, it is unfair to blame the government for everything. Because, from the way you comment, it is likely that you would also be the first to blame the government for not doing enough as well!
