I have been following Troypoint for about 3 years now and am so thankful for his sharing of his expertise and knowledge for us rookies. I am wanting to setup my first home server and wish to record my iptv. This video does just that. Looking at the Zimaboard 832 and my brief research into this subject I was wondering what advantages, if any, the Zima 832 with 8GB of ram and casaos would have over the Beelink Mini PC, Mini S12 Pro Intel N100(Up to 3.4GHz), 16GB DDR4 500GB SSD at $159 on Amazon. Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

I have used your great video to set things up as you laid out. I can now view TiviMate recordings in Plex. Now I would like to view Plex recordings in TiviMate using my IPTV Recording folder set up on my SATA drive connected to the Zima board. Unfortunately Plex creates folders to wrap around the actual recording so I can not view the files in TiviMate. Any suggestions or workarounds?

First time hearing about Tivimate. You mentioned schedule recording. Is this for only TV shows only or Can you record VOD like movies? Also does it record commercials with the TV shows?

I followed all the steps up to 5:00 but my CasaOS is not recognizing my Vulcan Z QLC. Could it be because I got the 4TB version? Does Zimaboard have issues with some SSD? I am using a Mac and access CasaOS using Colima. Is there a format I should reformat the external drive to? It is currently ExFAT. Thanks for the help to whoever sees this.

I set mine up, same equipment following you video instructions. However, when I try to record through TiviMate with SurfShark VPN connected, it will not record. Disconnect VPN and it records just fine. Is there some setting I need to change to be able to use VPN?
@BobCollette4 ай бұрын
Troy, thanks for the excellent tutorial. I have an older PC running 24/7 as a Plex server (have been running this for years). I would like to use some of the available space on it for IPTV recordings, such as what you showed in the video. I have an IPTV subscription running on an ONN 4K Pro box. I'm using the Sparkle IPTV app rather than Tivimate, however the setup is very similar. The problem I'm running into is the following. I have Surfshark VPN running on the ONN box, and no VPN on the Plex server. With the ONN VPN turned off, everything works great, just like it did in your video. However, when I have the ONN VPN turned on, it can't "see" the Plex server. In your tutorial, did you have the VPN enabled on your ONN box? If so, how did you get around the VPN blocking connections to other devices on the LAN?
@troypoint4 ай бұрын
Hello Bob, I'm glad you pointed this out. After reading your message, I looked and my VPN was on. Due to it being on, it wasn't connecting to my Plex server locally so it was pulling everything through the Internet and streaming it that way. This is why I would always get buffering when playing 4K videos...too much bandwidth. I went into Surfshark VPN Bypass VPN settings and added Plex so VPN is not active for that app. Now when I play 4K videos through Plex, it is coming through the local network with no buffering. So, one way around this is to Bypass VPN. You aren't protected within Plex when doing this but not sure you need to be as you are playing a local file. Hopefully all of t his makes sense and thanks for posting this!
@dgdigital26594 ай бұрын
@@troypointVPN while playing local files on Plex is not really necessary Plex server files are encrypted anyway as well as your login information
@BobCollette4 ай бұрын
@@troypoint Troy, thanks for the reply. My problem is not playing back the files via Plex. My problem is the creation of the IPTV recording file. With the VPN active on the ONN box (where the IPTV app is located), the IPTV app (Sparkle, in my case) can't connect to the Plex server to store the resulting file. If I turn off the VPN on the ONN box, then it can connect to the Plex server and save the file. That's why I asked if the VPN was active on your ONN box (where Tivimate is located). If the VPN is active on the ONN box and not on the Plex server (using the bypass function), your setup duplicates mine. Can you still record your IPTV on the Plex server?
@troypoint4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the clarification Bob. I think the problem is that Surfshark needs an option that ignores LAN traffic. I will reach out to them and see if they have this on their roadmap. Seems like something they should definitely have.
@BobCollette4 ай бұрын
@@troypoint Thanks, Troy. That would be great if Surfshark could add that option and make it behave more like the Windows version. With Windows, with Surfshark active, I can still see other network devices.

Well done vid as usual. Question: How do I set up a static ip address for zima device on my Fios router?
@sleevelessjoejohnson4 ай бұрын
@troypoint thanks for the great video, as usual! I have not gone this route yet as I simply don't have the $300 to set it up at the moment. I am "currently" (air quotes because it has worked so poorly, I am not really messing with it at the moment) using the old way to try and record...I have the nvidia shield with tivimate set up to record to my windows pc. I can seem to record most tv shows with no problems. My problems come when trying to dvr sporting events while I am at work. I get home and usually the beginning of the event is there, but it has never recorded the entire game/match. I have never been able to figure out why and am wondering if this is a similar issue that caused you to find this new way of recording and does it effectively eliminate said issue?

Hey Troy, do you have detailed instructions for installing iptv on Plex? Is it worth using on Plex? Thanks
@Supremo444 ай бұрын
What you didn't show is how to actually record a video onto the Zimaboard SSD. Can you record videos that are on a streaming service over to the Zima Board? Do the usual HDMI anti-copying restrictions kick in? Can you schedule recording live shows from IPTV services? Sorry if this is redundant, I do not have TV Mate installed so maybe those features are inherent features in that app? A general "how to record" tutorial would be helpful, thanks.
@troypoint4 ай бұрын
Yes, you can record through TiviMate and schedule recordings as well. I can't get into that on KZbin as they will remove the video. You saw where I had to gray out the channels in the video just for this one to fly.

Might be an obvious question, but my intention would be to first record IPTV using the zimaboard to the SATA drive and then transfer the files over into another hard drive connected to my PC for archiving. Would I be able to do that straight from casaOS? Or, would I need to unplug the SATA drive from the zimaboard, use another adapter to connect it to my PC directly and then transfer the files over that way? If that's the solution, would unplugging the drive from the zimaboard cause problems with zimaboard recognizing it again as storage when it's plugged back into the device? I've noticed that a shared folder within the drive set up on zimaboard also has a download option. So, would I be able to use that to download the contents on the SATA drive to my PC? It's just that I don't want to set all of this up only to find out that this is a closed loop and I can only ever store and access my IPTV recordings through the zimaboard itself and nothing else. Finding the lost continent of Atlantis would be easier than finding an answer to this question online. So, any insight that anybody can offer would be most appreciated.

I got mine from Amazon and can’t update it. What are the commands do I need to get the updates? Thanks
@troypoint4 ай бұрын
My problem was that the time or timezone was incorrect. Once I fixed this, it updated. Here is what I did. use this command to determine what the current timezone is set to: timedatectl If the timezone is not right, send this command which lists the names of the timezones: timedatectl list-timezones I had to change mine to Chicago so I then did the following command: sudo timedatectl set-timezone America/Chicago Obviously, you will replace the name of the timezone with the proper name that you saw when you got the list of timezones. Once I did that and went back to settings, it gave me the chance to update.
