It's expensive hobby that's for sure, but way cheaper and a thousand times safer than the real thing. Wait till Black-Friday and you can get a year or two for dirt cheap (in comparison to usual) Also I recommend, if you don't have one already, to get a wheel with force feedback; You can get one like the Logitech g920/29 series pretty cheap compared to a direct drive. If you want to be competitive, I'd go with a direct drive wheel. Only buy the cars and tracks you'll need each week to keep it as cheap as possible. If money isn't an issue, I recommend buying in bulk to get the 15-20% discount. Even if you do it competitively remember to have fun and don't worry so much about the fake internet points and license. Just don't be a jerk and you'll be fine.

These are stock cars not open wheen racers though some people act like they are XD You are meant to beat and slam into each other with stock cars, and honestly 26 hit a perfect shot here. 11:55 Reason he disqualified you and many others, is probably because you didn't qualify fast enough. Usually hosted dirt races, most hosts only take top 12-15, maybe top 20. The rest get DQ'd. It's nothing personal just trying to not get 1000 caution laps. I personally go the DQ method, but some will just kick them. I'm one that kind of watches practice too, so there's some people I give exemptions to. Say I'm taking top 15, but someone qualified 18th or 20th, but they were clean and not wrecking in practice I'll usually keep them, won't do that for everyone, but usually some.
