Iranian Azeris do not view themselves as outsiders nor are they considered outsiders. We are not Azeri Turks, although we speak Azerbaijani which is a Turkish dialect in itself. I’m a Persepolis fan, who is Of Azeri descent, born and raised abroad, and I have to say Tractor has always been considered one of the top 4 or 5 clubs in the league and because of their massive following probably 3rd most popular in Iran behind Esteghlal and Persepolis, as an Iranian I love that we have a super club now, the Iranian people aren’t too happy though because they are struggling because of the economic situation, I hope they compete for the Asian champions League.

The language is called "Azeri" rather than "Azerbaijani". The Azeris of the northwest are technically a minority, at least from a purely linguistic point of view. But this is a misleading. Firstly, because Iranian Azeris are also fluent Persian-speakers; they are fully bilingual. The Azeris are not really anything like an oppressed or beleaguered minority then, though such minorities certainly do exist in Iran.

Okay so I'm a life long tractor fan and what I can say that a lot of these comments in the comments section are false. 1) someone says 'why should Tabrizis be outsiders when half of tehran is azeri' This is very wrong. Tehran has got a lot of azeris thats true, but Tehran is a Persian city and from what I have seen and what I see from my Azeri family living in Tehran is that the azeris in Tehran are very Persianised and a lot of them can't even speak Azeri. 2) As an Azeri I do think our situation in Iran is a bad one. It is banned in schools and in the wider public for the use of Azeri writing. In Tabriz an Azeri city there is Persian everywhere and the only times you hear Azeri is on the streets, home etc. You never see Azeri officially. This reminds me of what the English do to the Irish, Scottish etc. I dont want to see my part of Iran persianised. 3) A lot of Persian nationalists are saying Azeris aren't turks. This is stupidest thing ever. We are Turks, we dont need you racist Persians telling us who we are and if you're azeri and you think of yourself as not turk, you are just another azeri who has been persianised and are most likely an azeri from tehran who is far too attached to the persian way. Don't get me wrong, I actually love Iran and Persian culture. Persian culture is the richest one in the middle east, thisis coming from a pan-turk. Dude, Azeri people are not marginalized! They are the largest and most influential and celebrated group. Persians in Iran are basically city people across the country who don't belong to any of the tribal groups such as Azeris, Kurds, Lurs, Baluchis, Turkmen, Arabs, Qashqai, Kormanji, ... perhaps half "Persians" of Iran are either decedents of one of these tribal groups or a mix. The leader of the country's father is Azeri! The shah was half Azeri from his mother and Iran has been ruled by Turkic speaking people for the past 800 years save for a brief break during Zand dynasty! So, Azeris are possibly the least oppressed minority or at least they are well represented in the Government. Bad economic situation and general oppression of the people is ethnic based, it's mostly based on representation and remoteness from levers of power. interesting video but a bit misleading. a bit weird seeing the azeri Iranians represented by the flag of the republic of Azerbaijan and Tehran represented as the flag of Iran. in Iran there are about 7 or 8 significant ethnicities and even then more in each of those , for example the Persian speaking areas there are vastly different cultures such as Bandari and Isfahan and don't think azeris are under represented considering their one of the more prominent voices in Iran outside of maybe Tehran and Mashhad. the discontent towards the government is not just is not just a azeri or Tabriz issue but national thing. also the league isnt called 'the persian pro league' its called the 'persian gulf pro league' in reference to the body of water south of the country and isnt a refreference to any language or ethnicity. also when you say passion for football isnt readily associated with iran it just indicated to me that you clearly dont know the sport culture in iran. as football is just as big or even bigger in iran than any countries in europe.
