In this video, Eric attempts to clean our very dirty CMMG 22LR Conversion upper that has been running on the M16 lower to the tune of 5,000+ rounds with nothing more than some oil and the occasional wipe down with a rag. The Infante S30 is capable of cleaning a complete firearm in as little as 3 minutes, which is very impressive but what can it do to this little rig that is likey better off being laid to rest?

For the price, I’ll stick to my Brake Cleaner, Old military cleaning brush, air compressor and a wee bit of elbow grease... the Brake Cleaner and compressed air will clean a fairly skanky rifle in about 2 minutes. Soak really skanky parts in ATF (automatic transmission fluid) The rest is a few more minutes of elbow grease with a brush and ATF or CLP. Done! I believe the cost difference will help fill MANY ammo cans!

Of course, for $20 an hour, you could hire someone for 250 hours to clean your firearms to match the $5,000 purchase price of the ultrasonic cleaner. Granted, if you had to supply the cleaning supplies or libations for the cleaner, that might drop a few hours off that :) But the stories to be told around the cleaning bench? Priceless!

Good for businesses and military and training services. Otherwise not even particularly useful for a heavy 3 gun shooter. In fact I shoot events with slightly dirty guns. I clean them and sometimes go 2 or even 3 range sessions before shooting an event, (depending on the guns of course).

I can definitely see the advantages of this for internal parts that are some forms of steel Bolts, BCGs, firing pins, or triggers from AR15s maybe even barrels but upper/lower receivers, handguards, and most other parts especially if I care about the finishes on them I'd be a little nervous to drop them in an ultrasonic cleaner... But if they say it's safe to do its probably ok if like you said you're checking them throughout the process... it's not for me but it is a cool product...

Yeah I’d be even more afraid to pack the basket full of stuff. The last thing I’d want is 2 pieces like my upper and lower rubbing on each other 10,000 times a second, I almost guarantee it doesn’t take 5 mins to rub your finish off that way.

Hot distilled water and ballistol will absolutely wreck carbon deposits without destroying your finish. Works wonders on black powder firearms, especially those with tiny primer nipples and crevices that are a chore to manually clean. The key is to use distilled water so there's not a layer of corrosive salt left behind when it evaporates.

I have an ultrasonic cleaner, but I stopped using it because it was better at stripping the finish off my guns than actually cleaning them. (Somehow after an hour it still wasn't clean with max temp) I use it now for cleaning off resin 3d prints. Also, I don't think it comes off in the video how annoying the sound is. I have to keep it in the garage while operating it and I can still hear that high pitched buzzing noise. It's perfect for driving the next door neighbor's cats and dogs insane.

For silencer cleaning, nothing beats peracetic acid. "The Dip" is 50/50 vinegar and 3% hydrogen peroxide. It dissolves lead and carbon build up. It's nasty stuff when new because it'll burn you chemically, and it's even nastier stuff after being used because it'll still burn you but it also contains lead acetate which is water soluble lead and poisonous. It takes some caution to use properly, but it works like nothing else can. I've used it to clean up stainless revolver cylinders that had serious leading of the throats. Works much better than 30 minutes fooling around with a bore brush chucked in a cordless drill. 😎

Problem I've run across using parts washers and ultrasonic cleaners is the disposal of the soiled fluid/solvent/lube mixture. I don't have municipal sewage. Only a few disposable facilities will accept the fluid and for those who depend on well water know anything you pour out on the ground eventually ends up in your drinking water. I've gone back to the Scott Rags in Box and clean my tools without creating gallons of liquid I can't get rid of.
@InfanteUltrasonics
@InfanteUltrasonics Жыл бұрын
Our Sonic Tonic and Sonic Lube are both non-hazardous, eco-friendly, bio-degradable and prop 65 compliant. The issue is not with the cleaner or the lubricant but the debris that come off the firearm. You can either follow local ordinances for pouring the debris down the drain or the best method we find is to pour the dirty cleaning solution into a large 10+ gallon container and let the water evaporate out of it. You are then left with the firearm debris sludge which will take a long time to fill the container up. At some point you can have the container picked up by a waste management company, but it would take you years to accumulate.

Dawn soap and warm water work fairly well! Usually once a year I'll "deep clean" my Glocks with hoppes, simple green, and dawn soap. It makes them ridiculously clean lol You just gotta be careful and maybe use a bit of oil because rust will set in on some parts if not thoroughly dried :)

Do you have to worry about the grease in the buffer tube? You'd figure cleaning solution would get in there too. I wonder what kind of wear occurs over time if you don't reapply grease inside the buffer tube after this method of cleaning.
@InfanteUltrasonics

We are not aware of grease being used in a buffer tube, oil should be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s manual. The buffer tube can be hand lubed after the process.

Speaking from experience: Don't use ultrasonic tanks to clean gun parts. Especially aluminum. The ultrasonics not only break up the gunk, but it vibrates those stainless baskets, and the parts in them, and it will remove the anodizing and eventually carve out the metal itself. Unless you want to remove finish and eventually metal and have your parts to start looking like a dull checkerboard, don't use ultrasonics on guns, ever. You'll be throwing that tank in the garage by the end of the month.
@InfanteUltrasonics
@InfanteUltrasonics Жыл бұрын
It is a common misconception about ultrasonics that the energy moves the baskets or parts inside, the energy produces cavitation which causes microscopic bubbles in the water that removes debris from a surface. Aluminum is also safe in ultrasonics. Our ultrasonic systems are specifically engineered for firearm cleaning, which requires a distinct tank design, process and solution. You normally see issues with ultrasonic firearm cleaning when a general cleaner is purchased and directions are not followed specific to gun cleaning.

@Infante Ultrasonics well that's good info. Last time I personally used an ultrasonic tank was about 20 years ago, and I found if we left the parts in the basket too long, there would be grooves left in the steel parts from the contour of the basket. I guess things have improved?
