+P's these days are more just full power ammo of the old days. 'Standard pressure' loading screen by the big companies are actually under pressurized for two reasons, cost savings on powder and also potential lawsuits of crappy old guns blowing up.

Thanks guys. You taught me a lot in this video. I had an Air weight S&W that was a +P. it is amazing what they can do with newer metals. I was shocked about the single action Army. Didn't know it would do that. Great vid as always.

Great video Barry. Awesome that you mentioned Bob Munden. So many people talk about this guy or that guy being the fastest and I watch them and they are not even a fraction as fast as Bob was. So until someone can shoot as fast as he did they will never be the fastest to me. Very informative video..especially since I love revolvers.

When I first saw the title of this vid my response was "Say what?!" After Barry's explanation "Okay, that makes perfect sense." First weapons I ever fired, over twenty years ago ( I feel old saying that), were my dad's .22 Ruger Bearcat and Dan Wesson .357 with interchangeable barrels and he showed me those things inside and out. I wish he hadn't sold them a few years later, then again, financial hardship and kids to feed.

I have an older issue of Guns & Ammo where they mention a test done to determine how much velocity was lost depending on the size of the cylinder gap. They took a SAA and set up the barrel so you could adjust how far it was threaded into the frame, allowing you to change the gap. When they had the gap set pretty far the gun started going full auto, as the cylinder was moving forward as the firing pin hit, and then moved backward, working like a gas piston when the fired case hit the firing pin.

Absolutely correct. I saw a Colt Cobra (Aluminum frame!) that was ruined by a well known actor/military advisor that allowed actors working on a movie to fire 50 rounds of +P+ during "training" for the roles. The Colt was in pristine condition before that foray!

Very nice info.ive got a charter arms also but it's a older model blued with wood grips i bought it in the 80's. I'de been thinking to put +p or +p+ now I'm not gonna. You should do a video on +p for semi auto pistols
@willpress1
@willpress1 11 жыл бұрын
In regards to you discussion of +P ammo, I remember seeing pictures of what happens when you use +P 38 ammo in a S&W aluminum alloy frame snub nose, I think it was a Lady Smith with the laser, any, the revolver was fired multiple times in the indoor range and it blew the gun up, splitting the pistol almost in half. You would have to see it to believe it. Always beware of the ammo type your gun uses.
@Ehtereon11B
@Ehtereon11B 11 жыл бұрын
Something to clarify, it won't always say if a firearm is rated for +p ammo on the barrel. Especially true with semi-autos. One of the few things manuals are good for is checking a firearm's pressure threshold. If no manual can be found, contact the manufacturer.

FWIW I asked someone from Smith and Wesson about +P ammo in a K frame and she said if it was made after 1948 it will have the model number like 10-5 or what have you stamped on the frame where the crane closes, and it was safe to shoot +P in it. For the J frames she said pretty much what Barry did. Honestly, I don't see the point of +P outta that short of a barrel, unless you just like a lot of muzzle blast.

i think you guys should show the most common revolver malfunctions in say steel framed and alloy framed guns, i know the new england firearms R92 .22lr revolvers if dropped will crack or break out where the little advance arm slides up and where cylinder center pin locks into and they are stainless models!

One thing I hate about some of the other gun channels is that the people those channels tend to point the muzzle right at the camera. I know the camera was most likely on a tripod, but it still alarms me as though that person muzzled me in person.

I hope you'll do the ting with SA, my bet is the primer doesn't have enough energy to cock the hammer. It's much more likely the firing pin would brake after the first primer blowup. Looking forward to the experiment, but I think it's another wild story :) Keep up the good work, always enjoy watching the videos.

Depends on what kind of gun, and where it's worn out. If it's the bore/rifling, you're not going to be able to do much to get that gun back. If it's the cylinder, you can replace it, if it's that channel the firing pin travels through, you can replace that. Pretty much the only things you would be real hurt if they were destroyed are the barrel, cylinder, and frame on a revolver. All the small moving parts can be replaced.

people need to realize that metal is not like glass where it just breaks, metal is more like clay in a sense that it does stretch, thats whats cool about metal is even though its hard, its still pliable with enough force...people also need to realize how much force is against the firearm when shot, sure might just be a quick spike and not sustained but 18,000psi is a ALOT of pressure. good video barry. im not a big fan of revolvers but id never turn one down!.

I was thinking of a design for a firearm as I normally do, and it came to me one day to simply use the recoil of the cartridge to push back a hammer instead of pushing a bolt with a fixed firing pin or otherwise. But then I thought, yes you'd have a super compact design that doesn't have a recoiling slide, but the hammer would need more mass than the bullet for recoil to work just like a bolt, and you'd never be able to aim it because rounds would be coming out both ends of it. Still maybe...
