I dont care what people say...and SKS is probably the nicest pleasant shooting gun out there..might not be the prettiest, most accurate or longest shooting..but at the end of the day its just a fine damn gun and fun as hell to shoot. It's not great but does everything well.

Great video and great shooting! Some people when they hear "Chinese" they already hate it. I have 5 SKSs, 2 Russian and 3 Chinese. 2 of my Chinese SKSs are the shorter "paratrooper" version. They all shoot flawlessly.
@Leitis_Fella10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had a gunsmith do a trigger job on my SKS and as soon as I mentioned it was Chinese, he asked "What exactly are you trying to accomplish with a Norinco?" and joked about seeing what good he could do besides "throwing it in the river". He also didn't do a phenomenal job on it and said "It is what it is. It's an SKS". He quite obviously didn't hold a high opinion of the gun. The trigger is still much, MUCH better than what it used to be, but I think he could have done better if he didn't let his personal bias get in the way.

i own a Norinco type 56 S.K.S. made in 1957 and it's got plenty of cosmoline on it. it's got the chinese markings... and it came with an original O.D. green sling, and it shoots very accurately out to 300 yards "respect" i dig shooting it. and due to the cosmoline i occaisonaly get the ol' slam for "TWO ROUND BURST" and i just love that lil sound :) i bought this rifle in 1990 and ive had a blast shooting it ever since and i HAVE NEVER CLEANED OFF THE COSMOLINE! still shoots.

The fore sight on these is adjustable both in windage and elevation, so I took the rear sight off mine (an SKK) and fitted a fixed aperture (ghost ring) on the receiver cover. This about doubled the sight radius and made aiming a LOT easier. With half-way decent ammo it shot well under 2MOA. I had a Dragunov style aftermarket stock on it too. I fired over 10,000 rounds through it before I sold it (which I regret, but I needed the money!), no malfunctions, not one. Great little rifle!

no. the SVT-40 or Siminov rifle was the rifle you are thinking of. it was designed during and used for the last few months of WWII it fired the 7.62x54R and had alot of reliability issues.
@StPaul769 жыл бұрын
If that's bulk FMJ 123gr ammo the boys are shooting, it's no wonder why the point of impact wanders. Out of an SKS the muzzle velocity of a 7,62x39 standard FMJ is about 750m/s and the short, cone-shaped bullet depletes velocity about 100m/s average on every 100m of flight. Meaning that at 440yds/400m it's just barely supersonic. And bullets made for supersonic velocities start to vibrate at the point of going below the speed of sound of about 320m/s. Even the slightest differences in muzzle velocity between rounds including barrel heating up means that the bullets arrive at 440yds with some of them barely supersonic and some subsonic.

How is the recoil compared to a Mosin? I'm getting one tommarow and I was just wondering. My Mosin feels like someone is hitting me in the shoulder with a baseball bat.
@kal-31448 жыл бұрын
Well the Mosin shoots a 7.62×54mmR or a 7.62×53mmR if you have a Finnish rifle, the SKS shoots a 7.62x39 which is the intermediate round (smaller than the Mosin) which the AKs shoot so it'll be lighter than your Mosin.

Totally different bullet.
@HHH1008 жыл бұрын
Night and Day. The SKS is a kitten tap compared to the Mosin.
@littlewolf552288 жыл бұрын
seriously? the recoil on the mosin is not that bad shoot 2 or 3 boxes of 8mm Mauser to get used to it or shoot the mosin more
@GeorgiaBoy1961Ай бұрын
The recoil of the SKS is significantly reduced compared to the Mosin-Nagant, for several reasons. First, the Mosin fires a full-sized, full-power cartridge in the 7.62x54R ~ which is roughly comparable to 30-06 in terms of power and recoil. That combined with the steel butt-plate on those old Mosin-Nagants will definitely tenderized your shoulder. Second, the SKS uses an intermediate 7.62x39 cartridge which is intermediate in size, weight, power and recoil between a full-sized rifle cartridge on one hand such as the 7.62x54R, and a pistol/SMG cartridge on the other, such as any of the handgun cartridges used by the Red Army. The SKS round was intentionally designed to trade some range/power in return for less recoil, better control in cyclic fire, and a smaller, lighter round. Third, since the SKS is a self-loading rifle, its gas piston operating cycle or system uses up some of the recoil impulse in cycling the action, which means less felt recoil. A bolt gun like a Mosin-Nagant delivers all of its recoil right to the user's shoulder, since none is needed to cycle the weapon. Consider getting a "Limb Saver" recoil reducer, which is a rubberized sleeve or cover that goes over the butt of the rifle, and cushions the user's shoulder from harsh recoil. Or you could switch to reduced recoil loads for that M-N rifle.

David , the triangle on a Chinese SKS means that the gun is MilSpec, inside the triangle is a set of numbers if you look carefully you will see them they look like geometric angles, those numbers tell what factory the factory the gun were made e.g 26, 416 , etc. . A commercial SKS will not have the triangle. The first three numbers on a chinese SKS is the production year, e.g 15xxx etc is made in 1968 then work your way back to 1956 e.g 13xxx is 1966 etc.

Just over 1300 ft. aproximately. Multiply 39 inches by 440 meters and you get 17160 inches then divide it by 12 and it comes out to1430 feet. Not too shabby for a old Russian type of carbine. You have to love the SKS rifles with all it entails. A real WTSHTF rifle for about $150.00 to $200.00 here in Canada. I own a 1950 Russian Tula 45 model and just love the simplicity and ease of working on one ,if you want it a little more tactical. Good rifle and video Erik.

Thanks for another great video: about the 1st rifle I bought this time. My Norinco has a blade bayonet and a 5-digit serial number. At a local gun show back in 2008, I was able to talk a guy down from $275 to $250 out the door for the ugliest SKS in the building. He claimed it had "never been fired," while it had barely been fired; I'm glad they didn't try harder, since it was still full of cosmoline. After some Break Free CLP, we aimed it down-range and found a great gun in the lowly SKS.

With the open sights I can't miss the 4 inch gong at 100 yds. The peep sight on my AR doesn't allow me the same consistency, and the ammo is less than half the price of the .223. What a closed bolt load means that the person had the bolt lips shaved off to allow for putting in a AK style mag with the receiver bolt closed. There are a LOT of Yugo and Chinese weapons on the market right at the moment so if anybody reading this is in the market those would probably be the least expensive rifles you could get your hands on. I had to laugh to myself when Eric said "It's 10 shots but it's 10 very good shots" as if that was a slight inconvenience. In Canada our government doesn't trust its citizens with 10 shots in a semi-auto rifle. Instead they decided that it was necessary to make the importers install a pin inside the magazine blocking the user from loading 5 cartridges which can be a real pain in the ass when loading with 10 round stripper clips. I really enjoy your videos keep up the good work guys.
