About the difficult to remove battery... I just got my GL35 thermal and yes it initially was difficult to unlock. I put some o-ring grease on the seal and still seemed to bind. The trick is, grab the flip up battery tab, PUSH IN ON THE BATTERY, now turn it counterclockwise.

use a little rubber grease

Exactly what I was going to suggest. some silicone lube will do the trick.
