Your grandfather's would be turning in his grave if he could see what our leaders done to our country. The problem has been here since I've been in school My generation never stood a chance in the country Look at how many people in there 30s still live with there parents Look at how many of our school friends left the country soon after school The asylum seekers coming in might be part of our current problem, but the government made this problem a long time ago and the war in Ukraine has only highlighted it

@@Dan4CW no come and visit Ireland definitely. American's seem to love Ireland and it's definitely a lovely country in its own way. I actually didn't realise you weren't Irish (living here) I'm saying for people growing up in Ireland we have been let down by our government for as long as I remember. There are no jobs and we are in a huge housing crisis. House are on the market for say 300k but are sold at a much higher price because there is so little property for sale If you want to rent a 2 bed room apartment outside Dublin it was about 600 per month 10 years ago, now it could be 3 times that Our wages haven't gone up and we get very little benifits off the government Our hospitals are over crowded, so bad that you might not even get a bed You could be left waiting in A&E for over 24 hours before you get seen to A 16 year old girl died in A&E in Limerick in 2022 because staff were to busy to come to here attention, even though her parents were begging for help Untop of all this Ireland has always been a left wing country, but it's all changing over the past year or 2 The government are taking in 100s of thousands asylum seekers from anywhere, no background checks, no passports and they are giving them places to live while there are 14k Irish people homeless It's so sad to say but we are being over ran in our on country, completely forgot about, and as I said we are a very left wing country historical Over the past few months certain communities are standing up to the government and fighting back, resulting in mini riots Buildings are being burnt down I live in Ireland's biggest town and it is a mess. Locals are scared to walk into town The town itself is actually falling down. 2 buildings in the town had to be cornered off last month because it was feared they would collapse By all means get your Irish passport, and 90% of the Irish will welcome you with open arms But times are changing, not to long about American tourists were put in hospital for walking around Dublin City and a 41 year old Canadian was murdered in June Again these are freak incidents where a few idiots give the rest of us a bad name But Ireland is changing for the worse and it's the governments fault, but they have there big house's so they don't care

Davy! My grandmother grew up on an estate in Kildare owned by a British Protestant family, the Middletons. As a child, my grandmothers father died of illness, and rather than sling the family out, the Middletons gave them a free cottage, the years firewood, and work for all who could labour. When my father, her third son, made it to London and married a British girl and had a family, the old girl was overjoyed, as she remembered the kindness of the Lord Dudley Middleton, who had treated her widowed mother with such kindness and respect. My grandmother, Molly, hated DeValera and had no time for the republican cause. My Grandfathers family however..... I always enjoy your content, and your obvious enthusiasm. Good man yerself.

The horrible civil war should never have happened. Dev walking out of the Dail that time started it all. Of all the people the Pro Treaty shot, he should have been the first. Now he is treated like a god. And all he did when he did condescend to join the Dail was turn Irelands clock back and let Rome take over. We have the catholic church in the south and in the north they have the lodges. There is simply no compromise in any of the doctrines. But the civil war should never have happened. Public opinion was not with them and they should have went with the state. The speech that Dev made at this time is one of the most irresponsible acts that any politician ever made, But sadly for Ireland it was not be be his last.
@brownsey1
@brownsey1 23 күн бұрын
There's much more nuace to it than that. Dev didn't actually lead a walkout. It was a protest. He returned after the interval. He was working towards a compromise up to Four Courts being attacked. I agree that his wading through blood speech was reckless, but in reality, he was sidelined by the militants on the anti-Treaty side more often than not. He also can't be blamed for how Catholic the Free State was after independence. That process was entrenched under Cosgrave's administration.

Imagine the impact of a united country led by Griffith, Dev and Collins, with O'Malley, Childers, Cosgrave, Mulcahy and all the rest pulling together, using the freedom to achieve freedom. Instead, his selfishness and pride caused a civil war which blighted Irish politics for three generations, not to mention his mishandling of the economy and permitting the State's subservience to the Church...........and all because of a meaningless oath which he eventually took anyway? Hindsight is a great gift alright. It was a far more divided opinion back then passing by a margin of 7 votes. Not only that it, it wasn't DeValera one way or another. Rory O'Connor took over the four courts trying to rally his old comrades and it was Collins firing on his former friends with British artillery that sparked it. All the Dev blaming post a movie that is substantially fictional is bollox. The Church had a firm grip on this country under Cumman na nGeadheal for 13 years before DeValera even took office.

@ratheanach5545 26 күн бұрын
@@icemanire5467 I don't totally disagree, but the fact remains that Dev and his followers refused to accept the democratically expressed will of the Dáil. That gave O' Connor the support to do what he did, and put Collins and the pro Treaty Dáil in an impossible position. Did Dev try to dissuade O'Connor from his actions? I will have to re-read his biography to refresh my memory on that point, but I don't recall ever reading anything about Dev trying very hard to stop the "Irregulars", as they were called, once the internecine fighting started....happy to be enlightened on that too. And you're quite right....hindsight is always 20/20. But to be clear, I base my opinion of Dev and Collins, and Breen, and O'Mallie and Brugha and others on my readings of writings about and by them, long before any "bollixy" films were made. If you can find a copy, "Four Glorious Years" by David Hogan (a nom de plume for Frank Gallagher) details the period between 1917 and 1921.....well worth a read.

Devalera was meant to put his name on that treaty. But the coward sent collins knowing full well what the outcome would be. Collins wasn't even kmown to the british and was better off keeping it that way in case negotions did break down. That way collins would have still been able to fight while being unknown to them in terms of appearance. Dev also handed ireland over to the catholic church and met ireland be ruled by them. Killing babies and abusing boys for decades. He also shot down the idea of universal healthcare and imstead let the catholic church take over that task.

Emotionally tough to visit the spot in Dublin (Stonebreakers' Yard of Kilmainham Gaol) where, between May 3-12,1916, fourteen men were executed by firing squad for their involvement in the Dublin Rebellion. All Irish need to unite. Young Irish boys and girls need to be taught their history, and shown these places. Shame on the Irish garda collecting their pieces of silver today against the majority of Irish opposed to immigration.

@@johnnyredux4019 Most Irish people were against the rebellion in 1916. More Irish people fought against it then for it. Irish opinion change after the United Kingdom executed the rebels. After that came the Irish War of Independence but still more Irishmen fought on the side of the UK. And after that most Irish people were against the anti-treaty IRA and voted for the treaty. Hence the Irish Civil War. The irony is the Irish Free State executed more rebels after the Irish Civil War in 1922-1923 then the United Kingdom did during 1916 and 1919-1921.

As a Northern Irish unionist and protestant...I have taken the time and found my grandfather who fought in WWI in the British Army 7/8 Royal Irish Fusiliers his details in the census records for 1901 and 11...show his nationality as Irish. My other grandfather...served British Army 1st Pionerr Corp WWII...army records show nationality as Irish. So tell me...2 generations ago the men in my family were Irish Protestant....I'm 50 now...seen the worst the IRA.can do to a people...how tell me will the Irish Republic reach out to unify with the Northern Irish? Considering many republicans will not and do not recognise my people. For example, do Sinn Fein ever say 'Northern Ireland' ? Never. Would I desire to be unified with those who don't recognise I and my kindred even exist? Those who revise history to suit their skewed narrative of 'Irish History'. For example...400 years.is NOT Irish history. Sickens me to look back at the murals of 'Brits out'. Which wasn't limited to GB soldiers. Yet...if my clan were Scots planters from late 1500's then there is a real possibility we were never planter stock exploiting a land grab...my clan are western Scots by origin...go back 1600 years to Irish Dál Riata, quite plausible we are original Irish. What about the Picts, Celts, Gauls, Saxons, Danes, Ionians...no scrub that it was always Irish Republicans cause SF own Irish history. Yeah... No seriously, how do you unify? Do u expect Northern Irish to cease to exist and become 'Irish' and assimilate? We have had 30 plus years of northern republicanism targeting and killing unionists...yes...I know...loyalists did likewise. Only Leo Varadakar has come close to convincing me that unification is possible...because it is NOT sinn fein Irish Republicanism. Any sensible replies welcome.

I don't know the answer, but I imagine it would start with a recognition that you love your part of the island of Ireland just as much as the other side do and gown from there. In other words, find what we have in common and celebrate that rather than be critical of what is different.. I live in Australia and have worked with Northern Unionists, and they were classed as Irish by the Australians .. We had many a great laugh about Irish mammy stories and the like. Plus the missing food and drink from home. It might be simple but it is a start

Sounds like excuses as to why Ireland shouldn't be whole...with just enough truth to make it difficult to just call it lying. So, you're a Scotsman living in Ireland...you could just recognize the fact, but no, you want to be really Irish, so you whine about not being recognized as Irish. You're not recognized as Irish, because you are only Irish by living on Irish soil, not from having Irish blood. Yeah, you probably have some...so do I, that doesn't make me Irish, either. Of course, you admitted that you may not have any Irish blood at all...but you wish you did, so you wrote your screed. Your ancestors stole land from the native Irish. What makes you think it's wrong in some way, that they want their land back? You clearly hate the real Irish, and for that...I despise you.

Simple. You forget about the past and focus on what's happening RIGHT NOW! We'll be no more with europe's open borders, mass immigration and degenerate woke politics. Forget about Protestant and Catholic issues for a second. Being the tiny country Ireland is, and the small population we have, it won't take long before we are over ran by foreigners who don't share Christian values. It's our values that should unite us. Regardless of people's lack of faith or opinions on religion, that's where they came from. In context, are we really all that different... culturally or religiously? The answer is a big fat NO, we're not! It's an old war that is pretty much redundant nowadays, or at least it should be when you take into consideration the state our WHOLE country is in. We've more immediate modern problems that needs fighting. If you want to revisit that question in a few years, IF we still have a country left, by all means have at it.

It’s history of civil war . And should not be forgotten. But what is needed now is history of Irish men that faced Napoleon that took on a European army’s and won their actions did more for catholic people not just in Ireland but in Britain they won freedom for British catholic s to worship openly they paid their price in blood so I can sit in Catholic Church in Burton upon Trent so catholic people all across Britain could stop worshipping their faith in fear That how much respect these men deserve . Would the men that made Ireland put with European Union ! No they would not and Irish should remember their history against European kings even it was with the British people there lesson
