Many thanks for this video on how to deal with mice in an RV! We play your videos regularly, and when we spotted a mouse in our motorhome last night around 10:00 pm, your video immediately came to mind because it was so thorough. We rewatched it, and then at 11:30 pm, we decided it was better to invest a few hours setting traps overnight than waiting till the next day. That way hopefully there would be only one sleepless night rather than two. We found some traditional traps at a 24hour Walgreen's store. They worked! When we got up in the morning, we had captured two mice. My biggest takeaway from the whole experience is to keep about 8 traps in your RV because this is going to happen at some point, and a late night drive might not even be an option when it does happen. We were lucky in that we could get the traps with just an hour round trip.

Wow, what a great story!! So glad it worked out for you to get traps and get them on the first night! Such an important thing to do! Yes, we have carried traps in our RV ever since the first time we got mice back in 2020. I think disinfectant was what we were missing this time. Good job to you!

My favorite mouse story is from a car. A smell was coming from the drivers side A post. It was believed that a mouse had got in the A post and died. Plan was to cut out A post and replace. Huge job. Country boy said drill a couple of small holes in the A post and pour a little Coke in to the A post. Next introduce some ants. They will follow the Coke and also eat the mouse. Then when the smell is gone which was only two days spray some ant killer in A post. Brilliant idea from the guy who grew up in the country.

The line off your trailer going to the ground can allow access into trailer. Expanding foam in all areas under belly helps. Peppermint oil on wheels helps little fellas do not like Peppermint. Coffee can lids around cords help prevent critters from climbing into trailer. Good luck. I had a squirrel in the nose of my FQS22 . Was very hard to get him out. Finally used Bear spray he left immediately.

My wife and I live in our Alliance Paradigm 372rk full time. We started having mouse problems the beginning of the fall. Our kitchen is in the back and it seemed that was where the mouse was getting in. I pulled up the board in the cabinet under the kitchen sick and saw a huge opening to the underneath of the trailer. I found some insulation foam that is for blocking rodents from coming in. After I sealed that we stopped having rodent problems.

As others have suggested, exclusion is the best approach long term. I've had great success using Copper Mesh Wool stuffed into openings, then I spray foam into the pores of the mesh. I like the copper better than steel wool because it doesn't rust and is more substantial. It comes in a tube shape, so you can cut it to length, roll it up into a donut, then stuff into openings or slide it over hoses if you have access to an open end of the hose. Available at DIY pest control online shops.

We got a rat in our engine in Gold Field Arizona. We parked right in front of his little home not knowing. We put peppermint packets on engine to no avail. He rebuilt right on top of them. I put my blue tooth speaker under the open hood and played owl sounds from a looped KZbin video, also put our chargeable Lucy lights out there. It totally helped. Interestingly it drew owls in all night - they hooted and hooted. Super awsome. Chris, thank you for letting us pet the June Bug yesterday. We are off to Q. Bring on the rock fun!! ❤ 🐾

One of the first things we did when we got our travel trailer is by metal mesh gutter guards, cut to size, and used silicone caulk to fasten the mesh over the large openings. The smaller areas used copper mesh to stuff in the hole with expanding foam to seal up, and topped off with a small piece of metal gutter guard and siliconed it in place.

Use dryer sheets in your drawers under your silverware tray (change them out occasionally), there are also pouches with very potent spices that irritate their noses. We got a couple mice last summer and I used every thing available to deter them from coming in ie: green Irish spring soap, vanilla scented car tree freshener, and now the rodent pouches.

Yep finding where they get in is an art or science or luck... I have found that in my case with the Basecamp, steel wool worked great stuffed into the frame i-beam cured the mice from getting in. They do not like to chew on steel wool. It's been over 3 years and haven't had another mouse yet... I think I'm going to check on that steel wool... LOL

5 years of living in my fifth wheel. I recently started leaving a trap under the kitchen sink at all times to hopefully catch them when they first come in. There is also spray foam that is meant for resent prevention. You can use it in all the holes in the floor where the water pipes come in. I haven’t had a mouse issue since I’ve been setting traps but the spray foam has been on my list of things to do.

We had our Alliance for 6 months before we got our first mouse. Which turned out to be mice. 6 to be exact. I’m a light sleeper and though I heard something, and in the morning…boom droppings on the floor. That day I put out traps in all of the places I thought they were getting in, and that night we got them. And yes they got into under the island and moved out from there. We got them all in one night, cleaned everything then left the traps out for a couple days for any stragglers. In our case the dogs food was the attractant.

For the tupperware… I always store the containers with the lid on to prevent bugs to touch the inside. I know it uses more space but it keeps them clean ready to use. Also help you minimize the amount of containers to what you really use. Also you can consider putting them in zipper bags if keeping the lids separated Great video…thanks!

It’s almost impossible to keep them out of the basement but you need to remove every drawer and look in every cabinet that leads from the belly to the interior. You will be surprised on the number of access points they have. Fill all those access points with steel wool or expanding foam. In 47 years of campers I haven’t had a mouse since my first camper. The FIRST thing I do when getting a new camper is mouse proof the interior. Wish I could keep them out of the belly and basement but there’s just too many entry points😢

Take a cotton ball and put vanilla extract on a lil piece of the cotton ball. Use that as your bait. My exterminator gave me this tip for personal trapping. The mice are attracted to it for the smell and bedding. This way you are not providing sustenance to them if the trap doesn't spring. This has worked for me. He said there are fancy gels but the ingredients are vanilla extract and said the gels are expensive but extract is not and usable for cooking.

We learned that if we unravel a brillo pad and place it around where the water line enters the van from outside, it will not only prevent the mice from entering the van, but also kill them, since they eat the brillo pad.

We had a lot of construction around our home and we had like 5 mice climb up through our gas fireplace hose. I got a trap that electricutes then and that was the best thing, no fuss no mess. We caught 5 in one night. The light would go from Red to Green if it was tripped and all you heard was a little squeek when it went off. I hate the conventional traps as many things can go wrong and sometimes can be messy and not in a good way.... I have seen some things....disturbing things.

not to jinx ourselves, but during our last 27 years of RVing, and 12 years of condo living prior to that, we haven't had mice. Even when neighbors had them, we looked and looked. But what we have had constantly, is one or two cats. I think the mice may just smell them and pass us by. Although when growing up, we had cats and dogs, and mice crawling through various gaps in our 1910 vintage house. My folks put out traps, but no one got overly concerned with them. Just cleaned up on an as-needed basis. I guess we were just lucky to grow up, and survived no seat belts, car seats, mice, iodine and bandages, vinegar and baking soda for cleaners, and dirt.

Twice we have been invaded by mice. This really sucks because of the cleaning. My wife is the mouse catcher, because she stays up late. Three the first time and seven the second time in two different rigs. Mouse traps are the only thing that worked for us. Then you better find out how they are getting into your rv. Steel wool can be a good way to plug a gap - as long as it’s not near a spark or flame. A dime sized hole is all that they need to get inside. Good job capturing that mouse, now you need to figure out the point of entry and block it off. Good luck hopefully you won’t have to deal with this problem again.

I feel your pain. We were staying on a friends farm moochdocking (Farm should have been our first clue 😂). We dropped our underbelly and left it dropped for a couple days!!! One night there were “sounds” above our bed (ORV 20BD). Thought it was squirrels on roof - nope!! Next night same thing so we opened the above bed cabinet and pulled everything out. 2 juvenile and 6 infants in my hoodies!! We blocked Mom’s path and she drove us nuts most of the night trying to get back to her babies. Next day traps set under bathroom sink, above the bed (removed access panel to place trap and replaced panel), 2 under the bathtub, one under fridge. Same day we sealed up the underbelly. 24 caught in 14 hours - until we figured how they were getting in. The front cap on our ORV was open on the sides underneath, unfettered access to the roof. Sealed that up and so far so good. We have since purchased a trap from Amazon that sits on top of a 5 gallon bucket, bait the roof and they fall into bucket. Lesson learned!!! Heard the above trap trip one night, could tell it didn’t finish off mouse because we heard it getting dragged around above us. We never did find it!!

Our FIRST and only to date (I'm confident will be more) was in BLM area at MOAB. Because of our very large dog 155LBS wanting to sleep with my wife I was on the table bed. At 2:30 AM I felt a tickle on my arm that woke me up, then another tickle. I sprang up with my phone light to find the CULPRIT, it was between the wall and the cushion! Pocket knife (no trap needed) and blood all over. It came in through the hole made when we installed solar panels, the power wiring to the inverter. Plugged up the next day and done.

I always have glue traps that are baited at strategic points in the RV and a couple down in compartments where it stays warm. Always. I guess I’m lucky that I’ve never had a mouse above the floor level in my motorhome. And I’ve only gotten 2 miles the whole time I’ve been full timing and both of those I trapped with a old spring style mouse trap with peanut butter. Plug the hole where your pipes come in with steel wool, and then spray foam to hold it there.

No mice yet...When I winterize I was using a bar of Irish spring soap I cut up and put on top of the tires. Now I'm using chunks of peppermint candy canes you can get cheap after Christmas. Since you move around, keep your cords and hoses off the ground. Find some peppermint oil to squirt on the inside of your tires to keep them at bay. For under your truck, use a motion detector light.

Ughhhh..our house is 135 yrs old. It has MANY MANY mouse entrances hehehehe. I have been combating them with normal spring traps…..but we still get surge periods when they are trying to come in for the winter. A few weeks ago, I bought a 5 gal pickle bucket that has a rotating paddle wheel gizmo on the top (just like the Mississippi paddle boats). We went to the Mojave desert for 2 weeks, and I came back to 10 floating mice, 2 of which were the larger pack rats. Safe travels!

Hi guy's my rv trailer had a mouse I used Electronic mouse trap that works with batteries. This thing is fantastic to use around pets because it's sealed unit. Yes, I did catch the mouse within 1 day. It's called a Victor electronic mouse trap. And it runs with 4AA batteries. And you do beat it with a little bit of peanut butter. I recommend skippies. Now, what's time to crawl under the underbelly of the RV and look for small cracks which I did. And I used a black spray foam insulation to cover up any sort of holes. Look any sort of entry ways such as the. Black tank release .and Is any propane gas? Hoses or pipes underneath the RV which will attract mice to follow along to get you to the hall. Which I found many, many holes, which the RV is only a 2022 sunset trails.

Ran to town got a big container and spent the whole day Saturday cleaning every dish and repacking them in a separate container. We ended up with the same traps with the lift bait trigger. Few hours later trap went off. ended up knocking it stupid as the mouse was not in the trap just sitting next to it. Weird. Scooped it up in a small box and finished him off outside. It consumed our camping weekend with lack of sleep and cleaning.

My dogs are useless. They lose their minds for cats, squirrels, raccoons and deer, but mice they don’t care about. The reason the mice were visiting was the dog food in the bowl. I set up motion detection cameras and lights and all of my mouse activity was between 9pm and 1am but could shift by an hour. After I blocked the access there was chewing on that spot for four nights and they were gone. I used the same trap with the bait in the little container and I have video of a mouse jumping three feet sideways away from it without setting it off. I also used mouse and rat sized glue traps. Some of them were dragged but nothing was caught. I never caught any but they stopped coming in once their entry was closed off

6 years on the road and only one mouse 🐁. My mouse trap took care of it. Her name is Gracie. She will fine any mice if they are there 😂

The worst feeling is seeing the mouse shit after you've grabbed a spoon from the drawer (not really seeing because you're not really awake yet) and have used it to stir your coffee, which you've just drunk. I trapped 21 of the little suckers in one day once--it was like they flash-mobbed my house. I got pretty tough at that point, but it's never fun. Oh, and FYI, chipmunks may LOOK cute and cuddly, but their teeth are just as long and gross, and they'll eat anything. I had squirrels in my garage--they ruined all my son's baby stuff and ate through the primer bubble on my weed-eater, cost me $60 to get fixed. I HATE killing things, but sometimes you just gotta do it. 😜

I have always assumed slides are the problem. No way those seals are entry proof. I feel like I have everything else nailed down (but probably not!).....

We hate them. Mice are like bears to me (Donia), I'm terrified of them. We keep the snap traps set up all the time for just in case. Yuck, you guys are giving us flash backs from us having to do all that, crazy how one tiny rodent can cause so much mess. Great job.

We were sleeping in our Class A and we heard a scurry then our cat leap out of his bed, uggh! Mouse! Hubby helped the cat catch the tiny critter. Sammie our Cavalier King Charles who comes from royal lines bred to protect the monarchy from rodents, fast asleep!! 😂

I thought basenjis were hunting dogs. Apparently not those two! Aren't they used in the Congo to flush lions out of their dens? Guess a mouse is too small for them to bother with. Hahaha!

Question: I see in the 5th wheel family room area is a non-ducted A/C unit. I have an Dometic (non-ducted) A/C and I think it is loud. I have not had a ducted A/C unit. Was your other trailer ducted and what is the noise compared to each other? Thank you (Reply at your leisure)

Place tin/aluminum foil in the opening where you showed the hot and cold water pipes and any other opening you can find. ‘The web’ says mice cannot eat foil.

Your video hit home . We just left Cottonwood AZ. We heard scratching behind our tv. There is storage back there. Unfortunately I found a power bar chewed open. Thankfully I had mouse traps with us. Yes, peanut butter is great for catching them. We use the Victor M393SSR Power-Kill Easy Set Mouse Trap. I caught over the next 2 nights. I placed some outside the rv as well. Nothing there, so they must have stayed in the rv during the day. No issues after I caught the two. So a question for the group… do lights under the rv chase them away? Ideas thinking about getting a solar powered security light and place one on the ground, either end of the trailer. They are motion activated. I figured the bright light would shine under the trailer and scare them. Has anyone fond this?

I'm a believer that the lights don't work. If a mouse smells food, or wants to escape the cold to find a new home they'll find a way in!

No experience, but I wouldn't think a mouse would activate a motion light. Maybe a rat.

The best way to get rid of a critter (ours was a rat) is to trade the motorhome in. ( We had planned to trade it anyway but the dealer got a value add they didn't know about. ) Our new RV didn't have any critters.
