Your math is skewed on figuring that 5th wheel's length overlapping w/ truck. 54 ft combined length individually doesn't go down 4 feet hooked up... That 4 ft overhang overlaps w/ 4ft of the truckbox... 54 ft would reduce to 46 ft "hooked up' based on that statement...

I've towed bumper pull trailers, gooseneck trailers, and fifth wheel trailers. I can make a 180 degree turn in a gooseneck or fifth wheel in the length of the trailer...not easy, because it requires a couple of jacknife turns, so you must watch the cab and trailer closely.

I think the only travel trailers that are actually the length of the model number are Airstreams. Most 26' travel trailers are closer to 30' in length. Airstream measures from the center of the hitch ball to the rear bumper.

It seems like you are in a Goldilocks scenario. You had a house, Too big, too much, stuck in one spot. Then you tried different options, Van, fun but small. Roof Tent, really small, travel trailer, great, but started get cramped with the dogs. So hopefully this is just right! It is your home! Find what is comfortable for you, your lifestyle, and your work. Have fun with your travels and life!

Strange on your remarks on maneuverability of a travel trailer verses 5th wheel, I had a 30 foot KZ trailer verses my 32 foot Cardinal 5th wheel, the 5th did not kick over as quick or easy as the travel trailer, even rubbed my truck box on a narrow provincial park with 1 foot deep dishes, backed both in same spot I had to really cut over more on the 5th then travel trailer

God Bless you both & your travels❤! I'm 2-3 years away from semi-retirement. And my #1 choice is 33' 5th wheel, that I plan to tow with a 1 ton diesel. So I felt like I was listening to Kindred-Spirit Cousins, as you described your upgrade to your 5th wheel set-up. I'm a widow, with 3 Furkids & 3 SlitherKids. Being able to accommodate my Boa Constrictors was a deal-breaker consideration for me...they're my Spirit Animals😂 So I was glad find someone that has had success with a 5th wheel rig like I've been dreaming of. I look forward to reviewing your library of videos. To learn more about what to expect when me & the kids can finally hit the road. Thanks for that video we are actually in a 33’ Grand Design and have been fulltime since 2018 in it. Going to be looking at an ORV 24rls in Tampa next week. Your video gave us some insight as we have never lived in a travel trailer. With the Lippert frames which both companies (GD and Alliance) were told not to travel with full tanks by Lippert. Has Alliance done something different in this regard? If so, will take another look at them. As to hitching on uneven ground when truck is not even to hitch…..trust me, have had some moments of worry when we could not hitch or unhitch with fifth wheel either. Just love your living space I wish they came built this way, it’s perfect!

Thank you for a very comprehensive and unbiased summary of the pro's and con's of travel trailer versus 5th wheel. Your experience makes the information so much more credible. We struggled with this dilemma for quite some time and we were dead set on a small 5th wheel for all the reasons you described. However, we use our rig for only 1-6 weeks at a time, not full time, and live in a heavily forested area so we ultimately went with a travel trailer simply to avoid low hanging tree branches and phone lines. That concern was not even on our radar until we specifically evaluated the practicality of our property and the roads leading in and out. Good stuff and thank you.

@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 4 ай бұрын
Hello! We do video calls a couple times a month. So it's not a daily thing, but we do need reliable internet everywhere we go since our business is 100% online based. This is the video of what we are using. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4SspaunjNCmnas But here's the gist. We use dedicated cellular based interent as our number 1 and carry star link as a backup to make sure we are covered. (IMO) Cellular is still king because of trees/obstructions and having it work while in motion. Starlink now has in motion, but what happens when you get to your campsite and its under trees. So a good roof based antenna and quality router in your RV is what we use. Insty Connect (like in the video) is a little less expensive than say Peplink options, but dosent have as nice of routers. But, now the new Instyconnect has an ethernet option do you can use and ethernet router. With this said a lot of people use Star Link full time...... but you really have to make sure you always have a clear view of the sky....

I just want to say I really enjoy your videos, and I have a question going from the outdoors RV travel trailer to The Alliance fifth wheel are you able to fill your fresh water tanks in the alliance and travel a few hundred miles to a boondocking site like you could with your Outdoors RV or do you have to wait until you're just a few miles away from your site before you fill your freshwater tank, I've noticed a lot of RV manufacturers tell you not to run down the road with your freshwater tank filled but I also know that is not a problem in an outdoors or Northwood RV, I was just wondering your thoughts and whether or not you can do that in your alliance fifth wheel.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 5 ай бұрын
Hello, and thanks for watching! Alliance reinforces their fresh water tank with welded steel straps. They don't tell people to drive around with a 100 gallons of fresh water if they don't have to, but they understand that you have to sometimes if your dry camping or boondocking. With that said, we have driven many 100's of miles with full water. No problems for us so far.

Thanks! It started out with friends that had them that we first saw the Allainces. Then we met Rob, one of the team members at Alliance through RV Unplugged and that started more conversation. We really fell in love with 295MK we have and also heard great things about quality and warranty. We've had more little warranty things than we'd like , but overall love the rig. Will cover more in the future. 😊

I think you need to put it on scale because a 33 ft 5th wheel is not 16800 lb.Only Luxe,New Horizons or DRV are so heavy.And if it is so heavy you over load the rear axle of the truck.

Nice size rig. For us 32 is max for 5th wheel… those 38++ rigs are just too much. Great choice. So you went from a van. To 26…now 33…your next one will be a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo..😂

Hi guys, love your content and watching your travels. Now, in this video, you seem to be interested in something different (maybe a travel trailer again)? My wife and I found ours from Grand Design 2670MK. It has opposing slides, a kitchen island, a desk area, and tons of countertops. Check it out online sometime. Have a great day! David PS, our friends liked ours so much they sold theirs less than one year old and bought one like ours :)...

Enjoyed your comparison video. We have a Outdoor RV25RLS Backcountry we really like, but really like your 5th wheel too. Sonora is our home town that you showed as a small town you went through after showing coming down Hiway 88 from Tahoe.

I'm still on the fence. We traded in our old tt for a good used 5vr a couple years ago. I will admit a couple things. The 5vr pulls better and has a little more storage. Overall though. The tt was nice and served it's purpose without issue. Cheaper on fuel as well. Both within inches of each other. 34 foot. 1 5vr plus is my rod storage being inside the front. I use 2 inch pvc pipe and some electrical stand off straps to mount to the ceiling of the front tunnel. Works great. Not sure why. But I think the tt was easier to heat and cool also.

In almost 45+ years of rv-n and everything from a tent to. 34’ Class A if we learned anything, it was no one rv / size fits everyone or all periods of life. We are now back to a 30’ ORV travel trailer. It’s what fits us now. 2-3 years from now ???

Great insights! We started with a 16' Scamp (13' living space) and it was a great size except the bed was too small. We upgraded to a Bigfoot fifth wheel (20' long) which was a terrific size and good space for us but we never used it! We're not full time so the fact that it just sat in our driveway made us really sad. We sold her last summer and just picked up a pop up truck camper! We went from small to a little bigger to smallest yet! LOL We're hoping the truck camper seems easy to just get up and go for a couple nights or a long weekend. But we'll see how we do with us and two dogs inside! LOL Thanks again for your valuable insights!

I enjoyed this video so much, thank you! We’re in a super nimble travel trailer for our first rig right now and working our way toward going full-time and accommodating animals while we do that. I think we’ll go fifth wheel for that transition, and your video really helped me understand the pros and cons for those choices. And the “I’m not pregnant! I know what you all are thinking” made me laugh so much! (I’m 34 and child free, and I always feel like I have to caveat “surprises” with my family 😂)

Even though we are boondockers, I think we were just priced out of 5th wheels...even used. So bigger TT was kinda all that we could go for. but I'm not looking forward to parking it in the occasional park. just backing 36ft travel trailer is going to be a challenge!

Travel days & errands can be tough - even with our smallish Imagine 17MKE (22' overall) and our truck. Walmart gets a lot of grocery money from me, as I know we can always find a spot. OMG on that older mobile home park in FL - we drove through a similar one (not towing) in NC and just a giant no. RV toilets use a lot of water & can definitely fill the black tank. Ah ha ha "and no, I'm not pregnant". How do you feel about giving up the truck bed (for the most part) as storage (if I missed this, my apologies - dog, husband...)?

🤣 Yes! For the most part all of our stuff in the bed fit inside the 5th wheel so it's kinda a wash. We still use the truck bed for "wet" stuff storage though. 👍

Have been in one of those older parks in Ft Myers and also in Pasadena with our 33' 5th wheel and many gyrations to get in and out of the sites. Now have downsized to 27' travel trailer and much easier to maneuver.

We had 2 travel trailers and then got a fifth wheel.so much better in every way. Driving in high wind is not a constant white knuckle terror. We got a Reese goosebox. Even though it is 3000 lbs heavier, we get better gas mileage.

Those dual rear slide outs will really increase the living space in your fifth wheel! Congratulations on the new RV! 30 feet seems to be a sweet spot on length, with more wanted while camping and less wanted while driving! And it is a lower weight than the maximum length 40 foot long trailers, that is important in the weight, fuel mileage, tire wear, and more!

very nice comparison. That is one of the beauties of RVing. There truly is something for every style. We move around a lot and cover a lot of ground, and frequent state, provincial and national parks, so having a trailer that is lower and a bit shorter than a lot of 5th wheels suits the current needs. If a point comes when we want to stay in one place for several months at a time, then a bigger 5th wheel may be what meets the bill. One thing I do like with the trailer hitch versus a 5th wheel hitch is the articulation of the hitch that is available for getting into some of these very sloped sites. But again, it really depends what your style is. Very happy to see that you are enjoying yours, and really looking forward to your trip up the east coast. As always, very safe travels.....

Quit showing our second home, Tahoe!! Hehe! Just kidding. That makes me so happy. Cave Rock, Caples Lake, also looked like the casinos at Stateline. If you’re ever there again, we are in South Lake during the summer months. But usually not with our Brinkley…we have sticks and bricks there!

@IreneIronTravels 7 ай бұрын
Yes, we really love the Alliance. We've had a few smaller warranty issues that have been a pain in the but, but overall we are happy. The Avenues are lighter weight, shorter height, and don't have as many features as the Paradigm.
