Looks like both are similar. Iridium's probably dont wear out faster than platinums. Thats why usually the recommendation interval to change them are higher mileage

I don't know what factory Kia spark plugs the Niro hybrid uses but they lasted me 200,000 miles and I switch them out just because w Bosch double iridium spark plugs

Iridium is harder material than platinum. Less erosion. That’s it. Doesn’t change the sparking voltage or the energy in the spark kernel.

Less erosion sooner then, so it wouldn't change the voltage delivery in comparison until the platinum erodes sooner, then there will be a difference. Some vehicles are prescribed for iridium because they work harder and would otherwise go through plugs sooner with other materials. For those that call for platinum, you may get a few more miles with iridium but if they cost twice as much and don't go twice as long as platinum, it's a waste of money. Helps to see what the vehicle calls for specifically.

Motor trend just did a dyno with different plug testing.. performance wise they were all bout the sane. Opening the gap to 0.65 is the only thing that made noticeable performance gains.. oh on engine masters

They should have done this test under compression! A bad plug will fire under these conditions, pit it under cylinder compression, and its a different result for sure. However, both are good plugs. iridium has the material that will last longer.

Please make sure you replace your spark plus with OEM parts if your vehicle is stock. It is engineer for specific plugs. If you're modified you should use spark plugs as recommended by your tunner especially when you change your turbo, air intake etc

Hate to break this to you, but "iridium" spark plugs ARE platinum sparkplugs, just with a miniscule amount of iridium added to the platinum. Sorry, but the difference between the two , in real world application, is nominal. I recommend using platinum/ iridium ALLOY plugs, with ACTIVE distributor cables. Then you'll see a discernable improvement in performance, as that super fast spark you get with platinum/ iridium plugs, will also be MUCH LARGER, combusting more fuel at the moment of spark, instantaneously.

Probably the o-ring on the tube is bad. Or maybe the pcv valve. Or if there’s oil from above it’s the valve cover gasket.

@@Btothewill I believe it's oil from below because it's only on the threads everything on the top side of the spark plug is dry. Could it still be the valve cover gasket? Also how hard is it to change the tube o ring? Does that require just removing the valve cover then the tubes will screw out? My pcv does bring minimal amounts of oil into the intake manifold but that is pretty much accepted in these cars... I did just install an oil catch can so i'll see if that helps with that.

@@Dnasty1 you’re right the valve cover gasket wouldn’t cause the problem if the plugs sit in the cover. So I’d vote the o rings. Ironically they usually come together in a kit so you might as well do both! And yes it’s fairly easy because the rings sit on the tube on the backside of the cover. Hope this fixes it!

The biggest difference is, the iridium plug will last longer. EPA laws say that all pollution parts are covered under warranty for 10 years or 100,000 mils and the old plus will not last that long.
