I bought this radio because it was the closest to what I operated during the VietNam War Days. I was a Radio Teletype Operator that sent messages (with Secure Scrambling) over a AN/GRC 46D that had many of these features but with a Modulator and Demodulater connected to it to send and recieve Teletype messages from all over the world using a Doublet Antennae. The BFO feature was used to receive CW (Morse Code) and Teletype D/C impulses to get a clear ungarbled message. We called the middle of the SSB "Zero Beat". With todays technology, Digital/Computer/Satellite, that tecnology became obsolete.I could send a teletype message that would travel and bounce the stratosphere and recieve it 3 minutes later. You forgot to mention that if you short hold the up or down caret the radio will scan then stop at a station so you don't have to spin the dial to find a station.

Hey, you, too? I was also my platoon's RTO. I carried the AN/PRC-77 for about 18 months in the mid-80s. I still have strong memories (and legs), from humping that damned "prick" up and down those freaking hills. And then, having to stay awake until midnight for the frequency changes and authentications. Ah, good times :)

I bought my Grundig Satelit 750 back in 2009. Amazon had them for $249 and I got mine as a Lightning Deal for $149. It's been my workbench radio mostly, but sometimes I'll move it to the bedroom for listening when something major is happening in the world. I also have a Tecsun PLL-660 which is fantastic, and I have an SDR setup on my MacBook Pro with the RTL-SDR dongle kit. This gets the majority of my "roaming" time as the waterfall makes signal hunts so much easier...but still fun to slowly scroll the 750, eyes closed and hearing focused, until you get that signal, hone in on it and try to figure out who/where....

This is a good overall radio for the price, especially on most SW bands with an external aerial; but does very well on reception with its own LONG telescopic! Air Band good too. I've had mine for 7 years now (different badge, same build). Very pleased with it.

Thanks for sharing and nice presentation. It’s been ages since I use to listen to my shortwave radio. I use to listen to my SW radios back in the 1980’s- early 2000’s for countless hours daily especially at night time when reception was best. My short wave radios which I still have are the Sony ICF - SW 100 and the ICF- SW 07 and also the Sangean ATS818ACS. Truthfully if it isn’t for the internet these day I’d still be dxing away!!

I use a little Tecsun digital shortwave radio, and use a 50 foot wire antenna outside my condo in the city. Works very well, especially in the evening. Maybe one day I can get this beautiful radio.

I have the Grundig and Eaton versions. They seem identical but the Older Grundig version seems to work a little better. I beilieve they were both made by Tecsun.

I was never a radio person but you and I think on the same level, let’s leave it at that. I boughtthe Eaton elite executive so I can travel with it I’m sure you know which radio it is. It has just about every function this radio has, I was never a radio person and now my wife can’t get me off that radio. I’m always listening to ham radio, CB radio whatever. I clip an alligator clamp and a 50 foot wire out my window on a slant about 30 feet up I can pick up everything. I hope people wake up and this is something they should have so you know what’s going on and when it’s coming to your front door, you take care brother

Better SW radios have AGC (automatic gain control) and AFC (automatic frequency control) with option to lock tuning on either upper or lower side of an AM signal. Great for music and sideband stations. Grundig Sattilite radio had this, but such features will cost you. It was $500 in 2006. Happy DXing.

I've wanted one of those for years, back when it was the Grundig 800. Glad, I've waited the many years, seeing how the Eton has upgraded it with better technology and features. But, then again, I'm still happy with my old Sangean/Radio Shack DX 808's and 909's for now. I've just always really liked that big, box table top radio and wanted one. This one may just be in my future.

I miss listening to shortwave. I have a C Crane Skywave and a Realistic DX-440. Unfortunately where I live is about a quarter mile from a radio station and everything seems to get stepped on by the local sports talk FM station ☹️

A good lower budget radio is the Sangean ats 803a, it was also traded as the Realistic DX 440, but the Sangean has better internal components. Old, but great. Older receivers can be found very cheap, I got a "new" realistic dx 200 a couple of month back for £70 ($85). But I've been into shortwave since I was a kid, and I'm now 54!

On the strength of your review I purchased this unit - my wife got it for me for XMAS (found one open box for $300). My late Father and I used to love shortwave listening in the 70’s. I’ve never used a digital receiver but am trying to learn. Could you recommend a simple external antenna?

I got the MLA 30 on amazon, its a good smaller magnetic loop antenna, then again a nice look bit of wire out your window and into a tree it is good too, but if you cant do like 75 of wire in your back yard, give the MLA30 a look

I just bought one of these used,, and from my limited knowledge of it, what should I look for to make sure all things work? And I see different antenna connections, what antennas should I be looking for? From my very limited understanding, it needs different antennas for various uses.

This is a nice review. The jack ass on KZbin with the shortwave channel bashes it (thinks he's the final word on this radio) and really doesn't realize that his problem with this radio is not common to 99% of us. I think it's a very nice radio, albeit being a little long in the tooth.

Hello all, I ordered my Eaton Elite 750 today as I’m writing. I happen to be totally blind. I won’t be able to utilize the visual display but I’m certain I’ll be using direct entry allot. Are there similar models to this radio available presently? I think I heard videos of a 750 which had a local DX switch and more selectivity features. Can someone set me straight? I just got mine delivered today for the first time I've owned one at all. I'm learning, watching KZbin videos, reading books and getting involved in ham radio clubs. I am totally new at this but my dad had one years and years ago and I still remember his, KTU 2239 that's what he would always say when he would sign off on the radio he was on. Mind you, he's gone now and that was in the 70s. A good man he taught me well, in fact he taught me everything I know. I'm hoping that someday I'll be able to get one where I can actually communicate and talk to people after I get a license. In the meantime I thought this would be a great starter to just listen and learn. I paid $359 for it. And I know what's going on in the world I've known for many many years. I've got a lot of things prep including his old radio, sadly I don't think it works anymore. I wish I could find someone I could trust that could take a look at it and maybe even fix it for me. If anybody has anybody they know please let me know it would be very important to me, and it would mean a whole heck of a lot. God bless, stay strong.

I guess the display is sort of similar to the drake, as for batteries you of course, can use rechargeables in it but it does not have a port what will allow you to charge them up, you would have to take them out to charge them

I run mine off AA NiMh batteries enclosed in a D battery adapter. There is a way to put in a code to let the radio know you are using rechargeables. The radio sips power so even AAs last a long time.
