I learned this piece when i was a teenager. I continued to play this piece throughout the years and have discovered that this is a great example of an “adult” piece. I think time and age really helps to translate the piece more effectively. I notice a huge difference between the ages.

Am I the only one who enjoys not only the music itself but also the elegance and good taste surrounding the concerts? the piano itself, the lighting and decoration of the room or stage in which is taking place, the beauty of the pianist (in this case), her attire, her looks, her attitude, her poise... Well it's overwhelming for my aesthetical sensitivity...

Well you mention the point. Most younger pianist are attacking a work. Mostly with a perfect technique. Irina has not only a perfect technique. But Irina understand the soul of the composer and Irina plays its work on behalf of the composer. And that makes the big difference.

that is the way I felt, the lack fo absolute power, just the piece... I had the fortune of having Adam Neiman play in my Living room on our 1895 Weber Baby Grand and it was a dream... my daughter playe this piece... gone now..

I agree! Music is truly all about fantasy and in addition to the glorious sounds, visual stimulation is also very important for a well-rounded experience in my opinion :-)

Это просто какое-то,,чудо,шедевр, это музыкальный рассказ, исповедь, наполненная Духом Божиим, где есть и сострадание, и печаль, и крик души, и умиление и хоть Рахманинов это непревзойденный мастер в расшевелении душ человеческих, где любое его произведение- уникально в саоем роде, но Элегию все же нельзя без слез и содррогания слушать.Исполнено просто чувственно, проникновенно здорово❤

Comparing to other players. This is probably the best performance I even did hear. It is the best left hand in this performance, which made it very special.

+Vick de Wit Gavrilov's interpretation is excellent as well, no doubt these two Pianists really shared the emotion and intensity that Rachmaninov himself felt when he wrote this piece.

I know that the interpretation from Gavrilov is also excellent. However I prefer Irina Lankova's interpretation. It is not only the emotion Irina can breng in her playing. What made it very special is her left hand and how Irina use the pedal. It is a performance where I do have the feeling that I do want to cry.

A great performance. This piece is dedicated to Arensky who was taught by Tchaikovsky. Both Rachmaninov and Scriabin where taught by Arensky. I can hear tiny stylistic snippets of Tchaikovsky and Scriabin in this piece. Pure romanticism.
