Absolutely amazing video! I have an 86 944 N/A and this is perfect. There are a few things left out like removing the shift rod, the drive shaft coupler, and how to get the transaxle out, but I can find other videos on that I'm sure. Thank you very much. You gave me the confidence to do this myself.

Again thank you for your fabulous videos (my interest is mainly in the PORSCHE 944). We replaced the clutch thanks to your very detailed and walk through instructions. It would have been impossible without those and having the job done by a special garage would have cost me a fortune and probably not done as well. If your wife is the video artist and owner of the Chanel, she does a great job too ! Please keep posting.

I'm doing the clutch in my 924S at the moment. One thing that surprised me was that in every account I've read about or seen on YT concerning 944 clutches it's never mentioned what a pain it can be just getting the bellhousing off. I was expecting the clutch pivot shaft to be the worst bit of it, but no, I spent 90 minutes or more before jacking the front of the engine up (to push the rear of the engine down). It kept hanging up on the heater hose at the rear of the cylinder head...the valve to heater core one. To get it back together I think I'm just going to partially drain the cooling system and disconnect it.

@irina256618 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Coleman Hi, practically everything. You'll need a normal 944 and a Turbo. It makes only sense if the body of the normal 944 in fine and the body of the Turbo is destroyed. Then you strip everything from the Turbo and mount it in the other body. An simple upgrade of a normal engine to a Turbo doesn't makes sense. Regards, Jürgen

just a note on the subtitles.. the transaxle is actually the name for the rear mounted gearbox in English. I'm not sure what we call the tube connecting it to the engine. the prop shaft I would think.

Great Video Jurgen-Thank you from California. I will do this myself without a lift in my car port-not the best but all I have. I haven't seen anyone else use an engine lift for this. You are not removing the front motor mounts for this job right? The engine lift is just to keep the engine from tilting without the transaxle attached, correct? Thank you!
@irina256613 жыл бұрын
Hello Stuart, you are right, the lift is just for to keep the engine from tilting. The workshop manual from Porsche says to do it this way. If it's really necessary is another question, the engine doesn't have much space for tilting. Greetings, Jürgen

First of all thanks for the highly informative video. Fantastic work! So I've gone through the process of replacing the clutch on my Porsche 944 2.7l. All going seemingly well, bar a few nasty bolts. However, today I tried to fit the clutch bellhousing back on, and for the life of me I cannot slide it back over. It seems to wobble back and forth and not fit properly. I've tried forcing the screws through, to no avail. It's a new Bellhousing as the other one looked worse for wear even after heavy degreasing. Before you jump to conclusions they are the same model number! I felt where it was getting stuck and noticed it was getting hooked up on the flywheel bolts that stick out. Having been told that these must face down during replacement, I simply could not fit the bellhousing over these bolts. Is it worth sanding these bolts down do you think to fit the bellhousing? Am I missing something here? I have removed the speed and reference sensors, do I also need to remove the bracket they plug into which is located near the bellhousing? I'm at wits end as it's quite an annoying lump to keep trying to fit! Thanks, Luke

@irina256615 жыл бұрын
Sure, I have done also the clutch at a S2 and on the Turbo. You remove, as shown in the video only the sensor and the sleeve, don't touch the braket. If you have to readjust the sensor. you glue a washer of 0,8 mm thickness on the sensor. You mount anything and then you remove the washer from the sensor and you have the needed 0,8 mm gap.
@irina25661 Жыл бұрын

But they didnt know about Irina videos ! The one guy wanted 1500 usd for torque tube (used) and 1500 for gearbox (used). There was sound coming from the back of car when coasting at 4th gear. My mechanic looked at it and said gearbox no good on 84 944. But gear box shifting fine. There was a very thick coat of oil covering entire gearbox. I think bad seal ? Hi Irina Congratulations on the video. I have a problem: Replace the clutch kit exactly as explained in the video. When the engine starts, it does not rotate, but when the clutch pedal is pressed, the engine turns and starts. Releasing the clutch pedal stops the engine. Why does this happen? The car is in neutral and is suspended and not supported on the floor. The installed clutch kit is Sachs. The same as noted in the video. Best Regards. Andrew
