This is the best explanation of the effect that I have ever seen. Makes me wonder about all the different kinds of light sources you could use to illuminate these agates. UV, polarised and different lasers beams.
@OzoneFineArtVentures
@OzoneFineArtVentures 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I really appreciate that feedback from you. It would be amazing to try some different light sources. I know that the quality of light makes a huge difference to how you see the Iris Spectrum. White, cold, led doesn't seem as good as warmer incandescent bulb, at least with my limited experience. Seeking a good backlight was the extent of experimenting though it should be fun to try some other things. Thanks for watching!

Thanks, Scott! Theo and I discussed the Iris Agates until the cows came home, then went back out again so he decided to send me some. Meanwhile, while that box was posted, I had discovered my own in that limb cast. It was a funny coincidence! We'll be doing more collabs, that was a blast. What a gem of a video! Just watched your Makers Challenge video a moment ago here as I'm making some homemade chicken noodle soup. After these two amazing videos I don't think I can watch another video today as nothing could hold a candle to them 😆. Lol ok ok. Montana agates have always been my favorite. But, these Montana Iris Agates are definitely the world's most beautiful agates imho. I've learned so much about them from Theo and yourself. From watching the podcasts and all the fantastic guests and you wonderful hosts. I loved the part with your guys dogs sending off and receiving the boxes. You explained everything so well.. Top notch video, Karen!

MMMMMmmmmm homemade chicken noodle soup! And add Iris agates and you're in pleasure overload, lol! Those Montana Agates that produce the Iris are really amazing, it was an Oregon Limb Cast that did the big color at the end (and that came totally out of left field!). I think they're the worlds most beautiful agates too, hands down. Thanks for all of your kind compliments and for watching. Hi Karen, some great pieces of iris agate. Your descriptive dialogue is second to none as always,very interpretive. I had a thought while watching which needs “someone” with an artistic bent to ponder it further. I was thinking how good would they look as a “mobile” type light, with each segment of the light, lit by an individual beam(led) from a centre light source. That would be an interesting light. 🌈 Keep Safe & Keep Rockin

Thank you, Dan! You're right, on any other day, those other slabs, from the limb casts, would be super rewarding. Why would you ever be disappointed in that? Unless you're looking for rainbows, lol. Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it. I think your agates have a chance; you need tight fortifications (which Kentucky agates surely can have) they need to be pretty translucent though, and the bigger the specimen the better. Those last two might be the challenge for your agates, maybe, don't know what you're finding, lol! Thanks again for watching and good luck finding!!!

The Iris agates are flat out insanely cool. Theo from the podcast got me interested in trying to polish some from both ones he sent me and then of course wondering if I had anything in my collection. Sure enough that banger was limb cast from here in Oregon! Maybe you have some and don't know it like me? Hope so, thanks for watching!

I love seeing this. Ive been going out to congleton and dendrite butte a lot recently and have a bunch of casts ready to be slabbed for iris, gonna do some this weekend. Ive only cut one so far, small, and has good color. Hoping to get some nice ones like you did! So fun to cut them and see what you get

If you've got some bigger chunks that have some diameter to them, you should have some Iris. I surely hope you do, it's pretty incredible to reveal, absolutely doesn't get old! Thanks for watching, let me know if you found some!!!

@@OzoneFineArtVentures i cut quite a few and got 2 little slabs from a limb that are pretty stunning. Best ones so far! Just went to dendrite butte and got some good casts that look like they could have some iris. So i will try cutting those when i can haha

Now I am torn. I have some Limb Cast and very light Pink Agates. I wasn't going to cut them but now I just might have to. The Iris in your agates and Limb Casts are beautiful. Great video.

Go for it! it'll be fun to go out and find more limb casts, right?! You can hedge your bets by checking for those tight fortification lines that do the ghost or parallax. I struck out on some of the agates so I just keep in mind going into it that I may have some pretty slabs as opposed to Iris Agates in the end 😁. Thanks for watching and you're entered in the upcoming giveaway, good luck!

@@OzoneFineArtVentures I bought my limb casts from Kyle. We don't have limb casts here in Illinois. Now that you found Iris he might not sell me any more. Which I don't blame him.

It seems like most of the color showed when the light was behind the stone. Does it also appear when lit from the front or would it need a mirrored back?

The color with Iris agates is mostly contraluz (backlit) like the contraluz opal. Since it's refractive, it can appear from multiple angles just depending on the mineral configuration but it seems most commonly and brightly from the back. Thanks for watching!

Wow I came expecting a normal crystal video, and I got so much more information than I normally do. This is great content. Loved the scientific aspect as well. Maybe I'll make some crystal videos eventually with my saw and flat lap, but i just got my camera and I'm still camera shy lol all I can manage to do is film pretty scenery at the moment 😅

Thanks so much for the marvelous feedback! So happy you enjoyed the video and got a little more than you bargained for 😂. I started out super camera shy too, it's okay, you get over it I promise. You can always pull cringy videos too 😅 if you can't take having them out there, we all make them, it's part of the process. Hope you make some videos soon, thanks again for watching, cheers!
