Or it because they don't down tune the higher strings first. When you downtune lower strings first, there's more tension and stress put on the higher strings. The best way to tune something like this is this order: B up to D, A down to D, e down to D, E down to B, G down to D. This will help balance the change in tension while tuning.

If you don't want to play in this tuning, you can still play it in standard tuning. Verse: D Em G Bm A G x2 Chorus: Bm A G x4 It's not the actual way to play it but its better if your guitar doesn't sound good at the low tuning or if it's just too much effort to change tuning.

I've seen so many "OH GOD MY STRINGS DEAR GOD." but they're all about the strings that are tuned down, and not about the only one that SHOULD snap, which is the B string tuned UP to D... Either you have had the strings wayyy too long, or you don't know the difference between down and up in tuning. Lol

I got the tuning without breaking a string by tuning everything to the right tuning Except for the b string, which I only tuned up a half step. I left my guitar like that for a day and the next day I tuned the b up another half step and kept everything else in tune. I continued this til it was in tune, and it took days, but it was worth it.

This is the second video I've gone to while thinking of learning this with my wife. I've come to the conclusion that this tuning should be called "bullshit tuning." I dropped both E strings to D and got extremely close to what's going on, plus I don't have to abuse my neck and strings.

I remember hearing that they also switch strings in order to get a better sound, and a different gauge on the 6th to get a better sounding on that low B, I think they use a normal e-string as a second string to get a D without over stretching a normal B and also not to mess up the guitar with all that tension

If you broke your E string it means you were not paying attention. He said tune it down to B, not up. The only string you need to worry about breaking is the B string. It's the only one tuned up. The rest are tuned down. Pay attention!!

I guess if you were to do this song, you can buy a custom string gauge or go to a site that sells individual strings: BUY a larger 6th string and 5th string and get extra 2nd strings since that is tuned up. Using a tension calculator will help matters.

No problem with strings except B. Replace B string with high E string, then tune E string down 1 step to D easy. Same for Name. Use high E string instead of B. For standard tuning tune E string to B. Works well. Some say tune low E down to B. I tune all 6 to D for better results. Also watch him play live. This lesson not exact, but it’s a big help.

We play a lot of go go dolls song at gigs I have 3 guitars I take with me all of witch are tuned differently for songs but definitely always play the songs in there right tuning and with the right cords that’s what makes you a good guitar player short cuts don’t get you far. I’d rather practice a few extra hours days or how ever long it takes to play something right

Hey! you helped me out so much! It was really great and pretty clear. Two questions: 1) what chords do they play for that time when they say "I just want you to know who I am" (3x) after the chorus is done? Are they the same chords as for the chorus' last line? And what chord/note do we end the song off with to resolve it? 2) At 9:20, I got a little confused. Could you maybe explain it? The placement of those little notes during strumming really threw me off. Thanks!

Once again, you may have to re-adjust your truss rod to get the best sound... BUT, because I can't sing very high, my guitar is tuned down a whole tone to begin with: so when it comes to tuning strings up, you'll never have the worry of tuning the strings snapping! Then to get to standard key, you just add a capo to the 2nd fret.. Simples 😊 Especially helps with this song and it's tuning! I love Iris, but unless you have a spare guitar on standby when playing live - this song becomes too much effort and takes too much time to tune to 😩

I say this because you reference the d string a lot and in this song there are 5 d strings. As a long time hobbyist guitarist I had no trouble but I think that new guitarist might have been confussed
