I love it! I can't quite believe you guys were showering outside up until recently. We are inside but feels like outside because the extension is still only a shell and the last few mornings, we had no water at all as all of our pipes are exposed. And OMG what a shower! We both looked at each other and thought, no floor tiling, no wall timing, easy assembly, wow! Such a great idea! And Ben when your in it at the end, it's looks pure luxurious. Well done on the plumbing, no easy job there either.

Recently until January 15th - hardcore lol. It really wasn't as bad as it sounded or looked. It wasn't far from the lovely warm of the shower to the kitchen door that a quick 8 steps didn't fix lol. First impressions.... as a whole shower unit it is very good, everything you need besides the water pipes to the shower and the waste away from the trap. The shower heads, mixer and trap are all there. Instructions are OK, but also not rocket science for DIYers like yourselves. Having a normal plumbing system would be advantages for us, but it is hot and wet, what more can you need for a shower. And yes, it felt like luxury. The plumbing needs to work to address the water heaters going off if enough flow to them isn't detected, apart from that, the plumbing works. The last 2 mornings we were frozen, even with pipe lagging on last night, but wasn't long before it was running again. I am sure you can do without it, but for us we just need rain to fill the water tanks up. We will be watching your latest tonight :-)

My Dad was a plumber, it’s easy. Just remember, hot on the left, cold on the right, poop flows downhill, paydays on Friday. 😊 You’re doing great my friend. Just make sure that you have a full coat on both surfaces. Shouldn’t see much squeeze out. Suggest you get some pipe insulation on those outside pipes. While it may not freeze, you will lose heat.

Lol ! Different countries do different sides for hot n cold 🥰 I bought a levered tap and every body complained that the lever went up or down according to what they used to to turn it off n on 🙄 I bought the tap at a great price in the style I loved but it was a different country's manufacturer 🤣

Hot on the right?? Well, it’s Ireland so, go figure.😊 I can say that since I’m mostly Irish. Heck, you might be restoring my ancestors house? 😮. Full disclosure. Yes, grandpa and pop were plumbers. I was an electrician and then a boiler technician/ inspector but have done a lot of plumbing in my 71 years. In our first house, a real fixer upper, I had to replace all the plumbing and electrical wiring. Remember watching pop fit cast iron waste pipe with oakum and lead. My son has the plumbing gene as well, he replumbed his hot water supply system himself. We’re a family of do it yourself people. So glad you’re showering inside now.

I love the look of your shower, the black back looks so good, we have the little lids on our ones here in New Zealand, they are called shower domes, it has a little gap above the door to the shower dome just to let little bit of steam out
@thecornerhouseproject
@thecornerhouseproject 2 ай бұрын
We went with the lid on top to help keep the steam in to try and prevent it going on the underside of the stairs. There are a couple of small vent holes in the lid but it is all working very well. In hindsight we should have gone with a square base as it feels quite small in there, but until we get the en-suit / main bathroom done, it is doing a fine job. Thank you as always for watching and commenting :-)

How posh indoor shower! I'm teasing.😄 It is great to finally see you shower inside and no doubt more comfortable. It is coming on. Quick question- where are your shut off valves? When you repipe, consider shut off valves for each area so you do not have to cut the entire house to service one area. Also put a box of insulation around those outdoor pipes or your going to literally be busting them at the seams from freeze. Others made good point regarding traps. I definitely understand your urgency to get it in. Well done!

I know, posh people here now hahaha. Indoor showering is ALL it is cracked up to be. Just the one shutoff valve for now but simple to add more with this style of plumbing. A 2 minute job for each valve. The pipes were lagged today, so hopefully we will not get frozen pipes again. Thank you for commenting Suzanne :-)

The precursor of the rubber duck and then that outro cracked me up. I have nightmares about plumbing. The guy who we bought the house from had some shady plumbing, that we have been fixing. One was our master bathroom toilet. He put in very thick, mind you beautiful wood floors, but forgot to raise the toilet flange/waste pipe…needless to say, after about three months we started noticing a smell. Yep waste into the basement. But my husband and I fix the problem. I’ve put in fixtures loads of time and knew that there needs to be a proper seal. I would also suggest insulating your exposed pipes…we had ours burst that were in the crawl space at our last house. We wrapped them but also had a heating line on them for super cold nights.
@thecornerhouseproject
@thecornerhouseproject 8 ай бұрын
Honest Dory, it wasn't me that did the plumbing, although mine is very dodgy indeed lol. My sister came up with a duck idea and I just swapped it about a bit, but was a great idea of hers. You weren't supposed to laugh at the end, you were suppose to go WOW hahahahaha. There is nothing worse than a soil pipe, even removing a toilet is bad enough but if it is leaking.... no thanks. So pleased you were able to sort it out though. The pipes outside won't be there long except for the black one, that will be lagged a lot. We have only had a freeze once about a month ago, but wasn't too bad. A heating line.... Can you give me more info on this please as it sounds a good idea. Thank you for joining us again and again Dory :-)

Finally you are civilized human beings again!!! Hope you don't get too soft :) A question / comment / suggestion. Is there a trap to prevent methane from the septic tank coming back through the shower drain? Also, it looks like the shower drain is connected to the same pipe as the kitchen or bathroom sink. If so, grey water from the sink(s) might back up into the shower. With the shower drain pipe laying horizontal on the floor there will be grey water remaining in the pipe which may lead to an odour in the shower. Depending on your ceiling height the solution if you have problems might be to build a platform to raise the shower off the floor. I am most definitely not a plumber, these are just things i noticed in the video. Maybe your subscriber that is experienced in the trade will offer suggestions on your installation. Best regards.
@thecornerhouseproject
@thecornerhouseproject 8 ай бұрын
Yes, we are back to showering inside the house instead of by the backdoor outside lol. As you know John, your questions, comments and suggestions are always welcome. The shower trap is a low profile one so doesn't need much space / height. I was unsure if the waste from the kitchen, when the bowl was emptied, would flow up into the shower, but the washing up bowl nor the washing machine waste flowed into the shower pipe. I think it is because it would have to turn left at the bend instead of going straight past and out the wall. When I completely replace the old waste pipe in the bathroom I may raise the shower a little as you suggest just to be sure it can't happen in the future as the water will be able to flow past the wall exit and up the shower waste. Thank you John, as always, for watching and commenting :-)

Just make sure that you apply a even, not overly thick coat of pipe adhesive on the pipe and the pipe fitting. When using speedfit plumbing, be sure to use pipe inserts on every joint, even when using compression joints 👍

@1MrMoor
@1MrMoor 6 ай бұрын
@@thecornerhouseproject solvent weld cement (pipe adhesive) works by melting a very thin layer of upvc, and then when you push the pipe into the pipe fitting, the two melted layers bond together giving you a water tight joint. All polybutylene pipe no matter which company produces it needs to have a pipe insert no matter if you are using pushfit fittings or compression fittings. Basically the pipe insert acts as a pipe support, a strengthener, so either the O ring and pipe gripper has something firm for them to grip against. The pipe insert is even more important when using compression fittings because without the insert the pipe can be misshapened as the compression ring is tightened up against the pipe. Don’t forget too, hot water flowing through the pipes can also cause the walls of the pipe to soften and lose its strength integrity. Seen far too many homes badly damaged all for the sake of a 25p pipe insert. I’ve only recently found your channel, been binge watching to bring me up to speed with things, but I gotta say…. I love your channel, love your way of recording everything….. But for me, as a cabbage cutter living in Somerset Cider Makers heaven, I love your cockney mannerisms and ways… love your cockney ethos of hard graft, cos I come from that time when cabbage cutters and cockneys never had any real opportunities in life cos none of us had much cash, everything we have only ever came from real hard graft. That's the plan, house the water heaters in cupboards but with enough gap at the top for ventilation. The outside shower had ply over the top of the LPG water heater about 12 inches or so away and this didn't get damaged in 6 months, so should be ok in a cupboard type thing. The water pump will end up inside the bathroom I think as if it freezes we are buggered. Yes, we are spoilt now, like normal people too lol Thanks for taking the time to comment after watching :-)

These are lime mortar and lime plaster walls which need to breath to be able to dry out any moisture in the house. The blue paint you may have seen around the house and then pink / peach paint in other rooms is either bathroom paint or vinyl silk paint. All that happens is the damp gets behind it and it goes mouldy. The living room at the start on one wall had green algae inside where the wall couldn't breath. Hi, thank you for commenting after watching :-) The pipework outside is only very temporary as the pump will be inside the bathroom. What remains outside will be clipped and boxed in as well as insulation added to the box. Even with pipe insulation on the pipes outside, we have had frozen water two mornings running. Not hard to thaw out, but a pain all the same. More insulation, or even pipe heating for when it is really cold may be needed. Thanks again :-)

I feel much cleaner now even though everything is pretty much the same, just not outside. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and of course being a channel member :-)

Well done Ben, it's a nice looking shower cubicle. How do your outside pipes not freeze, do you not get minus temperatures there?

Good evening Kath. It isn't the biggest shower but any wider and it would have hit the toilet. They do freeze, three times so far, but a little bit of hot water over the pipe and it is soon flowing again. Hope you are all well.

Leftie loose-ee, right-ee tight-ee, for plumbing as the other person said in comments. This one is easier to remember for as it rhymes. Beings you aren’t venting it outside for now , does that mean it’s a temporary fit? Loved the end, so funny.

The left and right comments earlier were for which hand the hot and cold taps are on. But it is a good rhyme :-) Yes, both water heaters and this method of hot water is just to get us to stage where "we think" we will go a range with back boiler, water tank and radiators. But that will have to wait as the range is our only really decent form of heat at the moment. Pulling it out now could be a bad move for us. I was initially thinking oil and combi boiler but we will have a range for cooking, so why not have the back boiler version. Thank you for commenting and taking the time to watch :-)

Hi Annie, thank you for commenting. Even after a day of showering indoors, it has really helped the mind, knowing we don't have to step outside in a towel in freezing temperatures. The outdoor shower was great as a shower, it was the cold that let it down.

Although it was exactly the same water, the extra heat and more water pressure made all of the difference. Also, stepping out into a room and not outside darkness is also a nice feeling. Thank you for watching and commenting Wendy, every comment means a lot to us.

Thanks for the compliment. It all comes down to money and the fact that we are DIYers at the end of the day. To replace the tools with have now would cost a fortune in the big named brands. Maybe if they start breaking we will replace with the bigger boys. Things like the pipe cutters though may get replaced anyway as these buggers tend to pinch the skin and give instant blood blisters lol. For bigger walls and holes I use the 6kg SDS drill :-) Thanks Phil for watching and taking the time to comment :-)

Brilliant job, as you say the walls have to be fixed at some point and yes the piping may not be ideal in terms of the look, but what the heck for the small investment in the plastic pipe to get the shower working for now, and then when you get around to doing the bathroom walls you can then always embed the water pipes into the walls and plaster up before your tiling or other fixes. Mean time enjoy the shower in a less cold environment, and onward and upward to the demo of the water tank and walls in readiness for the external rendering during the coming year. Joe
@thecornerhouseproject

Thanks Joe. As you say, not the prettiest but does the job for now. With so much work ahead with walls etc, it isn't worth investing the time to pretty it up. I may for now however make a box to hide the pipes in lol. Tomorrow I think I will take the old shower down so for the first time we will be able to see fully out of the kitchen window instead a a pink shower curtain, then we will look to see when will be best to take down the water tower, which will really make a big change to the back of the house. I love your confidence in us with rendering in the coming year hahaha. Thank you as always :-) Stay well.
@joesture9991
@joesture9991 8 ай бұрын
Excellent, yes as you have discovered many times in a renovation you have to do interim baby steps that cost more as the job is repeated but in the overall scheme of things its a price worth paying. The plastic will last for years and years so its not fancy but more important you have an internal shower and more critically it enables a whole raft of jobs with higher priority to be started e.g. water tower demo, rendering etc. This is a common factor in projects big to small and you are correctly looking at what is the priority and can it done one time or done in stages@@thecornerhouseproject

"English Leather"? In Ireland?? 😂 Let's see: structurally sound & watertight roof & walls, functional plumbing with hot & cold running water & a working toilet, heating, electricity, presumably free of critters other than small orange cats... I think your house is now officially legally habitable*! (*If you have a smoke detector. Do you have a smoke detector? You should have a smoke detector.) Glad to see from your outro that you're setting up for a new income stream from your OnlyFans. Unrelatedly, where is Dawn & what have you done with her? Congratulations on progressing from "camping at the site of a derelict" to "eccentrically bumping around a half-finished house." 🥂☺

Imperial Leather, we bought it from Tesco over here, honestly, or maybe Homesavers... honestly lol. When you list everything like that it makes it sound like we know what we are doing and always had a plan in place for every step of the way. And if you believe that, you will believe anything. Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes to smoke detectors, and yes, yes, yes to carbon monoxide testers. Most of which are linked to each other wirelessly :-) OnlyFans will be a last resort, I wasn't really built for that kind of viewing pleasure hahaha. Dawn has been busy out on the land and filming as she goes so you will see that fairly soon now. Again, listing tent to what we have now is quite incredible, a fully functional house giving us room to breath and really start to enjoy and appreciate what we have. Not for too long though, we have a lot to do. Thank you so much Evelyn for watching and then commenting with such thought and kindness :-)

OMG, it is Imperial Leather. Well, that's embarrassing. "English Leather" is a brand of men's toiletries in the US with similar packaging, and I guess I just read what I expected to see. And then I tried to pull your leg over it, which probably seemed pretty nonsensical on your end. At the risk of being tactless, I believe that if you'd had a plan & knew what you were doing, to start with you'd have gotten to this point a little bit before now. 😜🤣 All the best to you & Dawn, & I look forward to your next adventure. ☺ @thecornerhouseproject

English Leather - I would guess it is made by the same company. I brought back some "Dawn" washing up liquid from Canada, as we have never seen it before. Upon reading the label, it is made by the same company that makes washing up liquid here called "Fairy". Maybe I need to find some Eglish Leather to try. That isn't tactless, it is the truth. It has all been such a learning curve for us with very cautious decisions. But, once we had done the ceiling in the kitchen, it then only took us 10 days to the the same in the other side of the house. We also don't panic now when we pull a stone and it falls out of the wall lol. So we are learning as we go, maybe slower than others hahahaha A new year, new things to learn and do and plenty of videos to come. Keep your eyes out for a Dawn video at some point soon :-)

I've just had a watch and it's a shortened version/slang of the word "because", but the auto generated subtitles have it as Cuz. We would spell it "Cos" just a lazy way of saying because really lol
