"leaving's in my bones" is such a good line! The irish are so patriotic and their culture is so iconic and deeply rooted in their landscape. It feels like they are SO ancient. As if you could meet your ancestors just by watching people perform cultural acts. And yet, what is so deep within zheir culture is Leaving their land. This deep deep dichotomy in their culture is really fascinating, and bittersweet like the folk music. The line is SO GOOD

Hello! I would like to know, why is that? Why is leaving such an important thing when talking about the Irish? I’m not very knowledgeable on this subject.

@@matilde_5 the Irish have been oppressed by their english colonisers for so long that they have been forced to leave their home. To me, I'm not Irish, is the essence of Irish songs and stories often a love for the homeland as it could be and a necessity to leave for better chances for the individual. Which might be a reason why the Irish community was/is so strong in the us. They didn't necessarily want to leave but had to. But it's been like this for hundreds of years, so the culture in the homeland must be soaked with stories of cousins, uncles, parents, siblings, children.... Leaving their family behind

Sammy, you convey sentiments SO WELL. Every time I listen to this song, I really feel, so regrettably, that it's time to sadly pack up and leave Ireland, although I know I will miss it. Then I realize I don't even live in Ireland - never even been there. I think, though, I will go find and patronize an Irish pub this weekend, and then leave. TYSMS!

Another wonderful song. There's a lot of Irish in my family tree. This song makes me wonder if my ancestors wrestled with this feeling before leaving Ireland.

Puedo sentir muy bien el sentimiento de esta canción. Hace unos meses dejé mi país y siento como si hubiera sido hace mucho tiempo; pero fue para tener un mejor futuro, porque sentía amor por mi país "pero no era correspondido"

This song could be the new Hymn of the globalisator EU , of this new, "developped" financial war without borders, made against the nations and the poor countries. Also the hungarians can fell this song very well.

I’d love to hear the story of this one (assuming it isn’t too personal). The sentiment is clear, but I wonder at the cause.
