I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's given me some ideas on how to make tea with my own plant. I have Camellia sinensis assamica and I was getting confused about how to make black tea. A lot of what I have seen, people steamed their leaves first but I think I will try your method first.

Wow amazing ! Thank you so much for posting this I’ve been really curious about whether I can grow this plant in Ireland and make my own Matcha tea the traditional way that they used to in Japan however that being said doing it myself and making my own ceremonial grade Macha for my own health.. This has given me much hope that it is possible and as I’m studying about the strict practises of harvesting and high-grade ceremonial grade Matcha I believe that within time I can test out this method for myself your method is different because you’re just making tea but nonetheless it has given me great hope thank you.

Gardening at Douentza Are your tea plants outdoor the entire year ? Amazing. Is it a spezial type of tea? Or did you just plant a plant you could get somewhere?
@GardeningatDouentza8 жыл бұрын
The tea plants were grown from seed (Camellia sinensis) and kept in the greenhouse for the first few years. Then three of them were planted in the garden and left permanently outdoors. One is doing better than the other two, probably because of its sheltered location. We have, however, been blessed with mild winters since the plants were planted out. I must also add that in Co Wicklow the Kilmaccuragh Botanic Gardens has a tea bush outdoors for several years and it is a decent size!
@bjornmundt58018 жыл бұрын
Gardening at Douentza Wow. Thanks a lot. Am i right that tea plant don't stand temperatures below 0°C? I would be even happy with a tea plant in a big pot. Grocers offer a wide range of plants, but i don't get a tea plant (camelia sinensis). I'm very lucky that i found one last week, who can deliver me a mate plant. I was searching for one very long too.
@GardeningatDouentza8 жыл бұрын
Well, it's not true because even in a mild winter it goes below zero here. However, remember that young plants are more susceptible to cold! Good luck with your tea plant. By the way, the tea from it really was delicious.

I believe it has to go through this type of process otherwise it's a herbal tea.

@@GardeningatDouentza Loved the video! Thank you for sharing! Just for the record, I've done a fair amount of research on tea and Herbal tea is typically camellia sinensis combined with other plants (roses, hibiscus, cloves, cinnamon etc,) Or minus the tea plan all together. Janice Lopez, I'm sure you could drink the tea that way, but it would likely no be very strong, and maybe very vegital tasting. Also, cutting and crushing tea leaves often brings out the bitter qualities in tea. Always shoot for whole leaves! That said, if you like whats in the cup, you did it right. Cheers!

Huh. I just started soaking some tea seeds two days ago and intended to keep them indoors. I was afraid the Texas panhandle winters would destroy a tea plant. How cold does it get in Ireland? It can get to -13 C most winters for a week or so. Are temperatures comparable in Ireland, or is it warmer?
@GardeningatDouentza7 жыл бұрын
It is warmer here in Ireland. Here is a link with our climactic information... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Ireland

Hmmm ... a tea bush would be a great addition for my mother's garden, since she loves black tea (I like it too, but I am definitely a coffee person). Do you think you can keep the plant in a big pot and overwinter it an a frost-free ... wintergarden? You know, a terace, but surrounded completely with windows. Man, me not speak no English. Not for harvesting tea, but for the fun of having a genuine tea-plant. Same reason why you grow an Olive tree.
