This is the short patriotic movie that RTÉ used to play when they were shutting down for the night. Think it played in the late 70s or the Early to Mid 80's

The music is a little creepy alright. But, each to their own. Some Irish are religious nuts when it comes to the national anthem and nationalism. So the more overpowering the better for them. I think I made a better one myself, you can see it on my channel. I called it; "What-If 21st Century RTÉ Closedown (Kieran Griffith)"

@Fíonán Murphy Yes, I guess so but, sadly, it's not as if the Saxon foe hasn't given you enough reason for those sentiments over the past eight centuries or so. Perhaps we should blame the Normans rather than the Saxons, as they seem to be at the root of the trouble. They gave us Saxons a hard time too and still do, in some ways, only nowadays they call themselves English and go to public schools. No names; we don't want to get political, do we?

Although not Irish I love this National Anthem. I listened to RTE Radio 1 when it was on LW 567 KHz in the 90's. The last words before closedown the announcers usually said was "Oíche mhaith agus codladh sámh" (Goodnight and sleep well) and then played Amhrán na bhFiann a slightly faster version compared to this YT video

+Andrew Swift Almost everyone loves the Irish it is our duty to love everyone back. At the exponential rate that the population is increasing through immigration and the highest birthrate in Europe Ireland should have a population of 30 million by the end of the century. We have the only hardcore nationalist party in the world that is pro-immigration and Irish descendants live all over the world. If we were not welcoming new Irish with open arms from Poland, Nigeria, Brazil, China etc. We would be the biggest hypocrites on the planet. But you probably know all that already.

Ireland is the friendliest nation in Europe and its only people who are grasping at straws to find excuses for everything that is not perfect in Ireland who blame immigrants and visitors If you are a xenophobe you aren't fit to be called an Irish man. Ireland is the third proudest nation on Earth and one thing all good and smart people in Ireland can be proud of is that 10 percent of Irish residents weren't born in Ireland and race motivated crimes are extremely rare. i am not white myself and my mother was born in Kenya to an Indian family and I plan to adopt two baby girls from Africa when the time is right and bring them up to be even more Irish then I am. I did that as well but I decided to make my own 21'st century version and you can see it on my channel as "Irish National Anthem + Movie (Kieran Griffith)" Word of warning though, It is based on the RTÉ National anthem from the black and white days of the station, which is a bit less environmentally friendly.

There are tons of 1960s RTÉ close down national anthem on KZbin. Just type in keywords: irish national anthem rte and you will have all of the anthems including one I made myself for if the RTÉ was still closing down in the 2000s called: 'What-If 21st Century RTÉ Closedown (Kieran Griffith)'

bcuzfaqudatzy... Brilliant on so many levels. Of course The Soldiers Song. But truly I believe that not only James Joyce, but also, all Joyceian scholars will be massively impressed with your translation of as gaeilge Amhran na bhFiann into a gutteral , slip slap slop slide into the world of late night approbation of our nashional anntherumm. Hurrah an' hip hip hippopotamus... Slan agus etcetorium.

Joyce never went back to see the Free State for himself. If you read the chapter of the Citizen's ranting in 'Ulysses' you will understand why. Joyce foresaw the deformation and stagnation that would result from 26 counties of Ireland cutting themselves off from the rest of the British Isles.

In my channel I have what is maybe the oldest closedown of RTÉ, could you please drop in the video and comment from which year you believe it is? I found it in another channel, and as it is a public thing, I uploaded it, neither me neither the one who uploaded it first know which year is from
