Pumpkin is a squash that has little sugar in them by default. Unless you dump a shit ton of sugar and other stuff and make yourself a pie or latte, it's for savory dishes. Pumpkin soup.... now there's some eats.

I feel like there are two groups of people. Those that know what pumpkins taste like and those that think pumpkin spice (which has no pumpkin in it usually) is what pumpkins taste like. They are two very very different flavors. The reason that one guy kept saying cinnamon is because that is like one of the main ingredients in pumpkin spice along with nutmeg.

I have a friend who married an Aussie guy and moved to Victoria. Her first Christmas there she told them she was going to make pumpkin pie. They all thought it sounded disgusting since in Australia "pumpkin" is a squash served as a vegetable side dish. She found some North American pumpkins and made the pies. Her inlaws were quite suspicious until they tried a slice with whipped cream. She said she made two pies and they wiped them out (and almost didn't touch the other desserts).

Pumpkin pie was tasted in earlier pie tasting and I think a Thanksgiving Dinner episode. They ALWAYS make the crust horribly wrong and thick. It takes away from the pumpkin flavor. These pumpkin treats were all disgusting.

Last week I made a big dish full of pumpkin bread pudding. It's what happens when one makes pumpkin pie filling, tries to make a base out of brioche but the bread floats to the top as soon as the pumpkin mix is put in the casserole dish. It still tasted fine though.

I often add an assortment of spices to any pumpkin desert ... It's been awhile since I've made something like it, but as I recall nutmeg and clove work wonders ... I might just be thinking of pumpkin pie though... it's honestly been too long (pumpkin foods can be tricky to get right (especially from scratch)).

Pumpkin is a winter squash. Roast it with butter, salt and pepper, it tastes great. "Pumpkin spice" is the flavors added to pumpkin puree to make pie-cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and sometimes clove.

I wonder what sort of pumpkin they used to make those treats. The kind that Facts carved the other day are pumpkins bred for Jack O'Lanterns. They do not taste particularly like much of anything at all. Pie pumpkins, which are much smaller and have yellow skins, are great for sugary recipes, etc.

I'd be interested in knowing if the desserts were made with fresh pumpkin. I grew up HATING pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving (made from canned pumpkin). Then in my early 20's, I had pumpkin pie made from fresh pumpkin and discovered that I actually liked pumpkin pie.

I like classic pumpkin pie, pumpkin mousse, and pumpkin spice bars. Aside from the pumpkin spice scent thing I put in my wax melter, I don't like other pumpkin things. I hate the body sprays and coffee creamers and lattes. I like a light pumpkin flavor.

Pumpkin can be replaced by any other of the winter squash. It is one of the naturally sweet ones. Try making a pumpkin pie with another kind. You will see that the spices make the taste.

Not sure where you came up with those pumpkin desserts but I've never seen them, probably wouldn't like them myself. Now, for something easy and tasty just take a spice cake mix, a can of pumpkin, and a couple of tablespoons of water, mix, then make cupcakes out of the mix. Amazing, simple, fairly cheap too.

I'm wondering what sort of pumpkin was used to make this stuff? I've never eaten any of it, but like, the flavour difference between pumpkin varieties is *huge*. It's possible the reason the pumpkin was hard to detect is because it was a bland pumpkin - be that an issue of ripeness or variety. Good pumpkin is sweet and very flavourful. I have a hard time imagining how you could make it disappear in a dish, tbh.

I love how everyone was complaining that they couldn't taste the pumpkin. It's a squash and therefore pretty bland. The purpose of pumpkin deserts is as a carrier for ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg not because pumpkin tastes any good at all.

A lot of people don't realize that when something says "Pumpkin" in the name, does not necessarily mean there is any actual pumpkin used to make it. Mostly the flavor of "pumpkin" is a combination, of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, and allspice. Yes, even the beloved "Pumpkin Spice Latte" has no actual pumpkin flavoring in it. You want the real pumpkin? Get a pumpkin pie or tart. Dig a little deeper and you will find that the pumpkin puree you buy in cans is not the same kind of pumpkin that we think of with fall and jack o lanterns. It is mostly Disckson Pumpkin; which is pale, thinner, and taller. Looks more like a standard butternut squash than a "pumpkin" pumpkin.

Here is a community PSA for those of you who might be confused. Pumpkin and Pumpkin Spice are two very different things. One is a form of squash. The other is a mixture containing Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Cloves, and (here's the kicker) no pumpkin what-so-ever. It's called Pumpkin Spice because it is the spice mixture used in Pumpkin Pies. You should have tried pumpkin rolls!! That's my go to baked good to take to friends. Also, you should try eating the cupcake like this: Take the wrapper off. Tear the cake in half horizontally. Put part of the cake on top of the icing. Boom! It's a sandwich with perfect icing ratio.....and you don't get icing on your nose. Loo
