Liver and onions with homemade mashed potatoes was one of my favorite meals when I was a kid. I never thought of having it with roasted tomatoes and garlic bread, but that sounds pretty good, too! Also I love how suspicious Dermot is the whole time, waiting for something bad to show up. You guys have traumatized him lmao

Ain't gonna lie, Dermot and Ciara are what brings me back. I must have watched their pairing on the Advent calendar 100 times by now. They have a chemistry that is undeniable.Oh btw, if i ever have a son, i will strongly consider naming him, Dermot. I just love that name for some odd reason.

Doing a quick search and the Wright Brothers spent a year on a beach trying out their flying machine. They would write letters to their families and food was often in the letters.. One letter, the Wright Brothers made mention of having a larder. They could gets lots of stuff from them when they were well stocked. In one 1902 letter, Orville Wright wrote: "Our larder at present is pretty well supplied. We have on hand five dozen eggs, a whole side of bacon, two dozen lemons, two pounds of butter, six of lard; salt, sugar, potatoes, flour, and meal to last for several weeks, besides the stuff we brought from home. We get a quart a day of the best skimmed milk you ever saw-I mean skimmed the best-a perfect job, done by the cows themselves." Whatever history you're interested in is fascinating.

I highly recommend reading "Gods and Fighting Men" by Lady Gregory. A compilation of Irish folklore and stories. If my memory serves, it's in there. Besides, it's a great read!

@@ronjones-6977 She was English, so there's a bit of that bias, but it's still arguably the definitive work on Irish folklore. Rates up with the Mabinogion for the Welsh, IMO. Edit: I'm 56, and been a voracious reader since I was 4. And there's a lot of history hidden in folklore. Shows the origin of both the Greeks and the ethnic Irish being similar, as they cover a war between them, possibly when the Irish migrated to Ireland.

After trying Key Lime pie, I learned that Lemon Merrigue pie is the best of the two...my Mom used to make Cherry Merringue pie and that was my all time favorite pie hand down!

Firstly, that does sound like all the fixings of a fine lemon pie are in that list. Secondly, "skimmed the best -- a perfect job, done by the cows themselves" is just too cute a turn of phrase.

That fish of knowledge choice actually should lead to a whole video about MYTHICAL meals. Meals said to be eaten in myths from around the world. Pomegranate eaten by persephone, cooked goat served with mead to represent the goat of valhalla that produced mead instead of milk (plus thor owned two goats that came back to life every time he ate them), fresh peach, and sweet millet desert dumplings from the myth of momotaro... there are many myths that involve different sorts of food.
