I haven't used the Artic-Cool hat, but some items made from evaporative cooling fabric really do work. Granted, they have to be wet. As the moisture evaporates it absorbs heat, in the case of the hat, from your head. When it's +35C, being a bit damp is a fair trade for the cooling such items provide. I have a towel, a hat, and a T-shirt. I don't use them that often now, but when I was living in Central America they were great. In that heat, I was going to be damp from sweat, if not from clothing that I wet for evaporative cooling.
@JustinHamsleyАй бұрын
I can't speak for this hat, either, but I completely agree to the efficacy of some items using that technology. I can live with the slight dampness for an hour in exchange for how much cooler I feel. Sincerely, from Tennessee.
@williamriley-le9zoАй бұрын
Basically it's called, wait for it now kids,........ EVAPORATION. Any cloth hat will do this. Any cloth will do this. You don't need a special, expensive, material to achieve this. Jeez, some people will throw money at anything.
@justicegaming1412Ай бұрын
@@williamriley-le9zo Different materials will, of course, hold different amounts of water. You already know this, which is why you have puffy towels that can absorb lots of water and thin exercise clothing that doesn't. The trick is to find a material that absorbs water quite well while also not being a particularly thick and heat-retaining surface the way a towel is. Don't know anything about this particular hat (and why isn't the funny fabric all the way around?) but in principle using a specialized material can absolutely be better at serving this purpose than a regular hat is.
@encourageandrepeat8375Ай бұрын
@@justicegaming1412 I think it's a polymer gel similar to what they make diapers with, so it would hold a lot more water than the average fabric, and thus last longer as advertised.
@CortexNewsServiceАй бұрын
I actually can speak to the hat. It does actually work to keep you from overheating. I wear mine when I'm doing yard work. It doesn't keep me comfortable but it does help protect against heatstroke. Here in the Midwest US it does regularly get to 35C and you can notice a big difference when you put it on when you're doing outside work.

Idk if we have THE Robo Twist, but we do have one. My aunt has diabetes and has using feeling her fingers, so it has gotten harder for her to open jars. And as Mom and I get older, we are having difficulty, as well. We even have those rubber grip pads that are supposed to make opening jars easier, Mom used to be able to do it by hitting the bottom of the jar with the heel of her hand (you have to do it _just right_), and my go to has always been to run the jar lid under hot water to help it expand. The idea is to expand the blood vessels, drawing the blood away from the head. It does work sometimes. Ice also works as does pressure point near the thumb....sometimes. Also, the suggestion the dr gave my Dr was to drink Gatorade or the like as soon as pain hits. Works if it's because of dehydration. That said, sometimes nothing really works. The hat works on the same principal as industrial air conditioning coolers. When worn in a breeze, water evaporates, leaving behind cooler damp water in the mesh. At Disney World, they sell cooling towels that use the same principal. Re: migraine pack. As someone who suffers migraines from neck injuries in a car accident and who, ironically, works in the field as well, ice packs can be incredibly helpful. But you need a good one. And, for me, it’s because inflammation in my neck causes vasodilation and triggers the migraine. So a long strip of cooling material in a tube with Velcro that goes at the critical spot has been a lifesaver. But the one they showed is just junk. There are proper medical ones that stay soft and pliable when frozen, the key feature. The majority of the ones out there are just a waste of money.
