I've never heard the term "hard boiled candy" before, we just call them "hard candy" here in the US. You're not meant to chew them (unless you want to test your teeth, lol), and they are especially good if you have a sore throat.
@ashleighelizabeth59162 жыл бұрын
It's a baking term. Here in the US women who know how to bake (and men for that matter) use the terms hard boil and soft boil for candy. If you ever look at a good candy thermometer you will see either the terms hardball and softball or hard boil and soft boil written on it.

Hey TRYers, here is a little bit of info about the classic candies: Horehound drops are bittersweet hard candies made with sugar and an extract of marrubium vulgare (a flowering plant in the mint family). They are dark-colored, dissolve in the mouth, and have a flavor that has been compared to menthol and root beer. Peanut Butter Bars as small versions of what we in New York call “Chick-o-Sticks” - a peanut butter honeycombed center with a hard candy jacket. Smarties is a 71-year-old candy that are white and pastel shaded sugary, chalky goodness. I remember eating them when I went to grade school (1970s). American Circus Peanuts are one of my favorite sweets. They date to the 19th century, when they were one of a large variety of unwrapped "penny candy" sold in such retail outlets as five-and-dime stores. Root Beer Drops are another one of the candies I enjoyed as a kid. I enjoyed them for the barrel shape and they bring back memories of your favorite old-time soda fountain. They are bursting with a sweet and delicious root beer flavor. I hope you enjoyed them! Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone! 🍬🍬🍬☘️☘️🥂🥂💚💚

I grew up with horehound candy (in the Appalachia mountains), and noticed it started becoming harder to find in the 1980's. It's one of those flavors that borders on the edges of candy and medicine. I still love it to this day, and whenever I see a pouch, I buy it. Circus peanuts are the definition of "candy banana" flavor, and root beer barrels have a secret ingredient: wintergreen. Fun video, even with Jamie's mind warping choice of a shirt.

Horehound is one of those things you only get because it's old-fashioned. Nobody loves it and has fond childhood memories about it. It's more of a "my grandparents thought this was weird and couldn't figure it out, so they gave it to me to see if I could figure it out, and I'll give it to my grandkids just in case they can figure it out - but it's probably just weird".

The circus peanuts are nostalgic for me. The peanut candies are legendary! I mean legendary, i loooooooove them. I could do without the rest. To me, the rest is that filler stuff you get in your bucket on halloween when you are sifting through and looking for the good stuff that contains chocolate. But for real, LOVE those peanut butter things. Those were a serious treat that we rarely got growing up. They are very sticky but the flavor is so good.

Marrubium vulgare (white horehound or common horehound) is a flowering plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae), native to Europe, northern Africa, and southwestern and central Asia. It is also widely naturalized in many places, including most of North and South America. In other words, it grows everywhere but in Ireland.
