There's a cocktail called "Irish Coffee" which, despite rumors of being a crass American invention, does seem to have originated in Ireland before going worldwide. It had a flurry of US hostess popularity (after-dinner coffee and dessert in one!) in the 1960s or thereabout. Coffee, sugar, and whiskey in a brandy snifter or similar wide glass cup, with a layer of heavy cream floated on top. (You're supposed to leave the cream in place and drink the coffee through it.)
