One has to realize, most theme parks are designed to make money. Dolly created this place, not to make herself money, but to create jobs for the people in the area and draw tourists to support the local small businesses. It is a good healthy family environment, excellent food and most importantly supports the community. I wish you could have met her while you were there.
@gauravshukla712 ай бұрын
My understanding is that she basically bought into an existing park, rebranded it etc. However same sentiment in that she wanted to help the community that she grew up in. She didn't build it from scratch per se. She rescued it and made it bigger and better
@oneslikeme2 ай бұрын
There were rumors for a long time that she was going to build a second Dollywood in my home area of southeastern Kentucky. She even bought a huge track of land there. But unfortunately, that never panned out. :( It would have brought a lot of jobs to a very poor area. I have no doubt that was her plan, if the rumors were true of course.

Dolly saved that theme park and the entire county several decades ago. It was going bankrupt and there was no employment. She bought it, employed her family and every person in the county who needed work. It saved the county and now it employs thousands in the hotels and restaurants as well as the theme park. You can spend an entire day just seeing all the music shows, which we've done. She invites local food trucks to come and sell their food in her Park and they keep their profit. Senior citizens in the area can still get employment there whenever they need it. Look at pictures of Pigeon Forge from the 1970s and now.

Dolly was born and raised there and she has taken care of the people in that region by providing employment through her theme park, giving school supplies to children when they start school and far beyond Tennessee through her Imagination Library promoting literacy and encouraging kids to love reading. She is an amazing human being and I’m proud to say that my family comes from the same region. To see someone who came from the humble beginnings of an Appalachian community give back so generously isn’t a surprise. I visited England in 1997 and never was a big beer drinker but I asked the bartender to give me whatever and he served me the best beer I'd ever tasted. When I returned home it was the only thing I would drink...and it was Killian's Irish Red! So, a lady once told me, "It's in the bones" and now I know what that means. As someone from the U.S. that has never in a million years thought of going to Dollywood, you have completely changed my mind. It looks fun and like it has good food and is in a beautiful area. Seems 1000% better than Disney or other theme parks. 🥰🥰🥰 Seems chill.

I'm from a neighboring county in East TN, and I've been going to Dollywood since I was 6 yrs old (Im 45 yrs old now, so yeah, Ive spent some time at the park lol) and I definitely encourage y'all to come up and visit Dollywood, but also see everything here in East TN. Dollywood is just one park and one of Dolly's business ventures here, theres even more, including a decent sized water park called Splash Country. Not to mention all the other shopping places and theaters and restaurants and etc that are here. This is a very family oriented area, including the surrounding counties, and theres literally something for just about everybody here, especially if you love nature and the outdoors. My favorite, of course, is The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and South Central Appalachia, as a whole. Im from Blount County, 40 mins away from Dollywood, and these hills are my home, and Im very proud of them.

As an American, I can honestly say that not all of our theme parks have such high quality food. Anyone that has been to a Six Flags can attest to how subpar amusement park food can be. Being in the South already feels like a trip into another world, but we now have to add Dollywood into our must visit food destinations.

Not to mention to help others in need, because you never know what someone is going through. The weekend before Thanksgiving she has a Thanksgiving dinner cooked for the staff of Dollywood to celebrate Thanksgiving as a family. Dollywood hires local people to work there so that as many locals can support their families. About 5 years ago Dollywood added sound proof rooms for people to use if they get over stimulated or just need a quiet place to calm down away from all the noise of the park and they are free to use.

Thunderhead is my fav coaster along with Lightning Rod, and I really hope you went on Blazing Fury, the local's favorite and a classic staple. Please tell me you rode the train!! It has it's own fascinating history too! The conservation efforts with the birds (and the breeding program where they release healthy young birds to increase the wild population!), the Imagination Library, employing locals and senior citizens are only a drop in the bucket of what Dolly has done for her community. Sometimes it's the little cultural differences that are the most surprising. The idea at 6:10 that you'd never even heard of apple butter when it's so ubiquitous around here is mind-boggling, everybody has it on hand, almost whether they want to or not. (If anybody's curious, it's a spread made from cooking down apples until they caramelize to a deep brown and reduce into a thick spreadable paste... we call it a butter, but it's closer to a jam in practice, though much smoother.)
@ameliamcdonald172 ай бұрын
It's the pulp that's left from separating the juice. A small amount of sugar and spice is added to the pulp and the pectin naturally occurring in the pulp thickens it.

Apple butter and other fruit butters are an old-fashioned food, like preserves, that helped people to get through the winters. (The canning of fruits and vegs happened in Fall after the harvest.)
