The ball inside the Guinness is called a "widget" or a "smoothifier". What it does is it releases nitrogen when you crack open the can and it makes the beer smoother also helps form tiny bubbles that's unique to Guinness beers, rather than big bubbles on regular carbonated beer ( which is caused by C02 ). Nitrogen gas also doesn't easily dissolve in water, so when you crack open a beer, most of the gas is released into the air but the foamy bubbles in the head still remain. This - along with the smaller bubbles - gives the brew a thicker, more velvety "mouthfeel" without the acidic bite of carbonation with CO2.

Thanks for your video, I loved it as I am Irish and love this food and guinness :) You're right that traditional irish dinners are root veg and stews which are hearty in our rainy cold winters. The guinness is best served cold draught but can be nice from a can. However, the ball is in the can to help perfect the creamy head when you pour a can into a glass. Guinness has a famous art to being poured and allowed settle in the glass before drinking. It's not at it's best flavour when drank straight from the can without a glass. Ok, so now I teach you something after all you have taught me!!! Have a great day for St. Patrick's day and give Kitty some cuddles from me xx
