Have you found in your studies of stickfighting particular situations in which you find one style (Antrim vs. Doyle) to be more practical for you (short or long range, multiple attackers, etc)?

They both have situations where they thrive and compliment each other very well.

Good hand and Better hand... I like that! I'll gladly watch as many videos like this as you'll make 😄. I've heard one of the extinct styles, (I think from somewhere in the north of Ireland?) used two sticks, a shorter one in the good hand and a longer one in the better hand. Do you know any more about that? I think with my training I'd use the shorter stick in the better hand, and make sure it was a good heavy one, and use the longer stick in my good hand primarily for defense. I like to train both hands in whatever martial art I've studied, and I guess I've described myself as being good with one side but better with the other. Your way of saying it is much more elegant!

Yeah I had read a lot that it was trained regularly in southern Ireland and even read accounts of a famed stick fighter from Kerry who went to Mexico and fought a lot of people there with it. There is a naval manual that shows sword and pistol where the pistol is used to block which I think could be a potential way it was done but really we don't know.

@@ramblingkern Oh, the south, I was upside down! I hadn't made the connection with that naval manual (can't remember the author). I can see that working, actually.

@@Poohze01 yeah you do see similar in some African stick arts too so it's all guess work on my end but I could see it working

I often find that I want to throw a teep or low kick but I haven't really seen much more than a Doyle log kick. What do you think about low kicks in ISF?

Antrim has a few all have there own uses. The best kick combinations I have seen and learnt are in Krabi krabong but they are outside the scope of isf obviously.
