If you mix it with cola,95% of its taste is lost anyway, so any cheap whiskey will do the trick. Its just a waste of good whiskey and money to buy a bottle for 70$ only to mix it with pepsi. As for why you got asked for ID: Generally it's policy (here at least) to ask for ID unless you're 150% sure the person buying is 35. The age to buy Alcohol is 16-18. Them not asking for ID and selling to an under aged person might get their license to sell revoked, so companies will make completely sure they they don't do that.
