Most cats return home Speed. Just make sure when you get the cat you don't let it out for a while so it gets used to it's new home and knows that it is home. Also helps if you get him neutered so he doesn't run away looking for a mate. I would not allow a Ragdoll to be completely free roam or free roam at all tbh because it's a pedigree breed and people steal these kind of cats. I have a Devon Rex and we also had a Sphynx and Oriental that both met the same fate of being struck by a vehicle. We live in a small rural country area with low speed limit but people just don't care and my family went against my advice of keep them inside. Thankfully my Devon Rex absolutely refuses to go over the wall or follow other cats, he hates the idea of being away from home.. he is literally the perfect cat in every way, it's unbelievable, he wants to kiss you, hug you, be stuck to you all day, like a little squirrel monkey.. like a permanent puppy. But yea.. letting your cats free roam may lead to a lot of heartache. My first cat he was an outdoor cat, we adopted him as a young adult and he passed of old age. He was very street wise as we adopted him from people who lived on a busy road and I guess he just knew of the dangers somehow.

Just some advice I own cats and a dog it takes time for both to adjust to each other you might have to put the cats in a separate room for a few days with their food, water, litter box and tower you spend time with them in there. Your dog will be able to smell them from under the door and the cats will be able to also smell the dog from under the door. If you have a wire dog kennel for your dog you can put him in it in the living room and let the cats roam the whole house for a little while, they’ll be able to see the dog and get use to the house without the dog following them. Then you put them back in their room with the door closed and let your pup out of the kennel to smell where they were in the house it’s a process you might have to do this for a while until the dog just losses interest in the cats. Your dog is a puppy and that a good thing puppies adjust to cats a lot sooner the adult dogs. It’s important that the cats bond with you and learn to trust you they need to feel safe with you so play with them pet them talk to them in a sweet friendly voice (baby talk) like how you would talk to a baby. cats also don’t like loud noises.
