I have heard that M14 was supposed to replace M1 Garand, M1 Grease Gun and BAR, but failed to so effectively - with the exception of the M1 Garand - and that it had issues with its initial production. But beyond that, is the hatred and contempt for it justified?

It's not outright trash but not worth it either since it just a more expensive 'battle rifle' that the other 'battle rifle' options can do it better. I should retract my previous post since that garand uses m14 instead of the superior BM59 mags. One the m14 flaws was it magazine, at least compared to the BM59. You need to hook the nose of the mag to the mag catch, the BM59 you don't need to do this song and dance.

I like how the "improved" M1 Garands are just basically M14s but in .30-06. Also, it's pretty impressive of the guy to basically convert Lugers into all sorts of stuff. The dedication is unreal.

Given they use M14 mags, which are sized for 7.62x51 NATO, I'm going to doubt that they still use .30-06 Both cartridges use the same .30 caliber bullet after all, 7.62 NATO is just smaller (with the same power as .30-06 in its day, modern .30-06 is more powerful). There were also legit 7.62 NATO Garands made by the Navy, they just had to put a piece of polymer inside. I believe there are some non-bubba conversion kits that will allow for the same sort of thing in a normal Garand, but I can't confirm.
