The one time that Nyla was referenced as "he" during the original animation was Episode 15 "Bato of the Water Tribe". About half was through the episode June, Iroh, Zuko and Nyla are searching for Aang using Katara's necklace and they arrive at Makapu Village, the village of the Fortuneteller. Zuko gets impatient and shoves Katara's necklace in Nyla's nose again and Nyla reacts by attempting to attack Zuko with his paralyzing tongue. Zuko shouts at Nyla, "Hey, watch it" and June follows up, "Oh, look, he likes you.".

It’s so sad. I watched the series, and the episode where Iroh makes a memorial for his son, and he sings. This is one of the only scenes Uncle Iroh cry’s in, and so did I.

There are theories that Iroh's son, Lu Ten had fought Lee's brother. Not Ty Lee, but a boy name Lee from Zuko Alone.

Lee said Zuko reminded him of his older brother, so they must of similar age and he used to show his younger brother how to use those swords. It doesn't matchup cuz Lee's brother joined the army just recently as well.

The chaos this will bring to the whole fandom lol. To me, it's really the fact that IF Iroh left them behind to get home and give his son a funeral, he doomed the rest of the soldiers and their families to experience the same grief he has. They were abadoned and likely died in the battlefield, and now their families are left waiting for their little soldier boy to come marching home. This grief and epiphany will topple down like dominoes, leading Iroh to realize that he led a war and brought the same if not more loss and suffering to the Earth Kingdom soldiers and their families as well. It's pandemonium in the lore and the fandom if this is the case lol. actual chaos and more leaves from the vine tears 💀 haha
