Zuko is one of the more important figures within Avatar: The Last Airbender. He was at first the catalyst that caused the Gaang to move from place to place seeking refuge, but he became far more than that. When Aang had no one left to teach him Firebending, Zuko, having been driven out by his sister, joined Team Avatar, bringing with him all the knowledge he had accumulated over the years, including that which he had gained from Uncle Iroh. But this all cascaded down because of one simple moment, and that was Zuko’s duel against the Fire Lord, and his refusal to accept that one had to make the hard decisions and be ruthless if one was to rule the Fire Nation. But what if Zuko had fought Ozai? Well, let’s just see.

My thoughts exactly. He thought he lost his honor, that the scar was a reminder of his failure, a shame upon himself. But both ideas are wrong. He got burned because his father was an abusive piece of shit, AND he was the only one in the room who dared to speak up FOR his people instead of treating them like cannon fodder. That scar was proof that he was a prince who would sacrifice himself for his people, who would FIGHT for his people (remember, he was willing to duel the general to stand by his words). The scar was proof he was twice the Firelord his father could ever be.

@Epic_Memer_Man Its blue because she's a perfectionist. Blue flames in real life means complete combustion, so a perfect burn/flame. Azulas' training allowed her to achieve perfect fire bending being dedicated and mentally and physically strong. Plus, it's a really good play on her name, where Azul is Blue in Spanish.

Blue is the hottest of the flame color, *because* it burns the purest due to sufficient oxygen to fully break down the carbon into carbon dioxide and water. Blue means the fuel is burning efficiently and with no waste. Pure gas burns easier than organics such as wood. It's the reason you need good ventilation if you use a wood stove in your house. It sucks up oxygen and produces a ton of carbon monoxide and smoke. Gas stoves and water heaters are safe because the flames produced by the gas are pure and produce carbon dioxide. If your gas stove or water heater does NOT burn blue, turn it off, open your house, and call a repair technician. Your stove is producing carbon monoxide due to an incomplete combustion.

Ozai was ashamed of himself, not Zuko. Ozai was projecting his shame of himself onto Zuko, he hated Zuko because he hated himself. Ozai saw Zuko as himself, the less talented of two siblings who did not have his father's approval. Iroh not only was the brighter and favored sibling between himself and Ozai, he would go on to be known as a successful Fire Nation War General named "Dragon of the West". Zuko had his mother's heart and his Uncle who loved him, he was free to be whoever he wished but didn't know it. Zuko didn't need Ozai's approval or twisted sense of honor to be Human or to be loved, that's all he ever wanted but he had both of those things all along.

Zuko lost no "honor" when he was driven out of the fire nation. Zuko traveled across the globe looking for approval from Ozai that he didn't need. He didn't realize that Iroh, who stood at his side the entire time, was basically his only family all along. He was disowned by a biological father that was never truly his father. Ozai had no honor. He not only scarred his own son, but later in life was willing to strike him with lightning while his back was turned and swords withdrawn. The only time Zuko lost something important was when he thought Iroh hated him after he betrayed Iroh. Iroh saw his nephew Zuko as his second chance at being a father after he lost his son Lu Ten to war in the name of the Fire Nation. Iroh essentially failed his son Lu Ten by leading him to follow in his footsteps as a fire nation general and thought that he failed Zuko as well when Zuko returned to the Fire Nation. After losing Lu Ten, Iroh learned important lessons about the value of life that he sought to pass on to Zuko. Iroh was the only known person to look away when Ozai burned Zuko during that fire duel.

Would there still be a fight for his honor or not? I wouldn't think so, as he *did* ask for permission, instead of just shouting his objection. Or if not, he could always ask to speak privately about the matter at a later time.

Great story. I feel like an easier method for Zuko to capture Aang and maybe even get the Northern Water Tribe to capitulate would be to marry Yue. If he used diplomacy and wrote a letter to Arnook with the proposal that the Fire Nation will not attack Agna Qel'a if he agrees to betroth him to Yue. This will tie Azula's hands because she would not be allowed to mobilize the navy to invade in the middle of a deal being brokered between the two nations. Under the guise of meeting/marrying his new bride, Zuko would be invited into the city with a personal escort. There he would get to meet Aang, and at some point he and his men would spring their trap to capture him. Now, I know this would have been dishonorable. But clearly this version of Zuko seems more flexible when it comes to questions about morality thanks to Ozai's influence. Also if his marriage with Yue still happens. Then all that is left to do is knock off his dear father in law, as that would allow Yue to inherit the Water Tribe throne, thus making Zuko the new chief by marriage. Thus allowing the Fire Nation to conquer the the NWT without any bloodshed.

I liked this video, but the only thing I disliked somewhat was Iroh's justification for killing Ozai. Personally, I feel like Iroh should have spared Ozai because even though Iroh believed Ozai in his nature would kill his own son, he had never done so or insinuated he would. I also think it would show a lesson on how Azula and Zuko should treat each other as siblings: with compassion and love, not fire. Killing Ozai still works, but I wished it was said in the story that he killed him because he was a threat to peace rather than his line about Ozai no longer being his brother. Not only would this make sense, but it also makes a contrast between the heroic characters of Aang and Iroh. While they both believe in peace, Iroh is willing to kill if that is what is necessary to protect it. Point being, I don't think Iroh killing Ozai in front of his children should have been treated as quickly as it was.

He never did if we are talking about the war meeting. Him going against that general showed that Zuko had the markings of a strong king. The whole "honor" thing was in his head. Zuko wouldn't be able to fight Ozai here but once he was fully matured and a grown man(aka not Book 3 where he is a small teenager) he would be able to surpass him. And we do have statements that he indeed had the potential to surpass him and that during his peak as Firelord he probably did Ozai was the most powerful firebender we had seen. More powerful than Azulon or Iroh or Sozin.(Fully realised adult Avatars were better but we dont count them) The only ones that had the potential to surpass him one day were Azula and Zuko,the blood of Roku mixed with his own. But as teenagers they couldn't Could Iroh create dragon fire? I always believed that Zuko only did so in the comics. cause he had Avatar blood. Roku himself in the novel showed the blue flames that his great granddaughter had. Also Zuko was forced to connect more deeply with the dragons caus he had lost his bending at that point,Iroh was still very powerful when he met them.

When he was fire lord or when Azulon was fire lord? If it's the former then Azula would've become fire lord way earlier. If it's the latter then Azula would've still become fire lord because Iroh would be too emotionally damaged after the loss of his son to be fire lord and Azulon always viewed Zuko as a weakling, so Azula would've became fire lord as a small child. Lol in both scenarios Azula wins.

Iroh wouldn't kill his brother, he would instead try his best to make the avatar end him or dethrone him. As you said, the white lotus will side with the avatar, so Iroh would probably follow Zuko on his mission and make a few adjustments to make the avatar escape. Iroh would be able to do this due to his connection with Pakku, another high ranking white lotus member and a waterbending instructor with high status in the northen water tribe. With the support of the order of the white lotus, Iroh might just be able to indirectly help the avatar while not being caught, or maybe Iroh would directly help the avatar by training the avatar with his firebending. If Iroh did this he would have to hide away from the fire nation until the avatar would defeat the firelord, making Zuko firelord due to him being an heir to the throne (And defeat Azula with the wisdom from Iroh and probably a little bit of plotbending) If what I just wrote is kinda weird, just know that it is 2 am

Zuko never lost his honor. He never needed a "redemption". Zuko is an honorable and just young man, always, confused and betrayed by a monster he called father. Yes, he did chase the Avatar, but he was ordered to capture the Avatar if he was ever to see his homeland again. How could he know that it was because the psychotic megalomaniac gave him the "impossible" order to throw him away forever without killing him as such. Did he set some stuff on fire? Yes. But he was a soldier in the Fire Nation Army. He'd have been doing that anyway. Aang straight up killed more people than Zuko fought, and Zuko's never taken a life to my recollection. His quest was for clarity, not redemption, and he didn't realize he was on it. Iroh did.
