Ursa didn’t choose to be in the Royal Family Sozin regretted everything he had done snd Azulon is a villain who doesn’t give a damn about his grandchildren. It makes sense that Zuko must be the leader. Zuko has traveled around the world alongside Iroh as Iroh will never be a truly leader due to him suffering loss that being his Son that will leave him permanently scarred. Zuko became the leader then later had a wife named Mai. And together they ruled the fire nation with the love and respect they have deserved and bringing the honor back from the ashes like a Phoenix. Then they have a daughter named Izumi making sure the Royal Family lives on with the live and respect they so desperately deserved. When they retired, Izumi led by example and violence is 100% done in the fire nation after everything that happened throughout 10,000 years of pain and misery and she had two children of Iroh II and his sister that is yet to be named. Zuko snd Iroh changed everything and made the world a better place for the all nations forever.

After watching both of Sage’s Rain’s videos on Toph and Zuko, I think I know why it never happened. What they both needed at the time was forgiveness. Toph wanted to resolve the guilt of running away from her parents, while Zuko needed to apologize to Iroh. These happening at the same time would have been one powerhouse of an episode, but the timing would have been off (they didn’t have time to go back to the Earth Kingdom and Aang needed to learn firebending). What got me about the whole "I wasn't angry with you" scene was Iroh's perspective and the strength he had to forgive his nephew for his betrayal. I mean, here is a man whose whole entire life changed because of the loss of his son, spending much of his remaining time recovering and moving forward in a world without his brave soldier boy. It would be hard for anyone to give that level of unconditional love and faith without fear of facing the same pain again, but he decides to put that love into a nephew who truly needed it. While this is so obvious I never thought about it. That Zuko really didn't have any ambitions or goals, he didnt care about conquering the world like his father or anything. He literally only wanted to go home.

He did say "she's crazy", but yeah a little bit of influence from Iroh might sway her to be nicer. He should've did more than give her a little doll (which shows how little he knows Azula as a relative).

I remember watching the show as a little kid (disclaimer: I'm pretty sure I only watched episodes in season one back then) and thinking that I kind of liked Uncle, but I was disappointed because he was on the "bad" side. But now I think of him as simply being on the side of peace, loyalty, and love, and that's always the good side, no matter who's on it. In the same way, I like to think that Zuko was never the villain of the story, even in the beginning. If you think about it, at that time he was just a lost and confused 16-year-old boy who had been abused by his father. He never had anything personal against Aang or any of the people of the other nations; he just wanted to be loved and accepted by Ozai. But he had to come to the realization that that father was not someone to look up to or to want to be accepted by, and luckily he came to the decision to live in the way that his "real" father wanted him to. ~:~

Zuko really went on the classic "Avatar Journey" around the world learning from each nation he was in if we really think about it. It almost seems like Zuko could have been that era's Avatar if Aang had never been frozen in ice 100 years ago.

I feel like the moment of Iroh confronting Zuko in lake laogai gets overlooked, it’s the one time Iroh raises his voice to Zuko, and you really get the feeling that Iroh is the only one who cares for Zuko the way he needs to be cared for Korra bringing up Iroh and Zuko’s reaction is such a heartwarming moment, even decades later he still carries the love he has for him

Great video. Great observation on Zuko feeling his most alone after betraying Iroh. I never thought about how he has his father's "love" now but it's artificial and is always at risk of going away. I wonder how he would be if Azula didn't lie to their father.

My particular favorite word of wisdom from Iroh is “While it is always best to believe in one’s self, a little help from others can be a great blessing.” But nothing, but NOTHING can beat when he asks Zuko, “Who are you, and what do YOU want?!??!?”
@vailingbow10683 жыл бұрын
Speaking of compassion in Zuko, he also honored his promise to Aang about leaving the Water Tribe Village in peace. Although I just love the Beach episode. It really fleshed out Zuko so much. I honestly would feel so upset that someone I basically raised as a kid and he abandons me, I would be really upset. Maybe not angry if it was like Zuko, but still sad.

Like, this is a kid who's whole life has been ruled by the fear of his father, of disappointing him, of making him angry and the brutal consequences of making him angry- to have iroh say that has never, not ONCE been angry at zuko is so so important.

Iroh leads by example in such a profound and amazing way. When you think about it, everyone treated him with disrespect and called him a failure. Despite zero support from others, he gave to others. Chose humility, even after holding a position of power and might. And through all that, he played an instrumental part in changing the world. He showed us to be a good person, even when the world doesn't give us reason to be.

I watched the video just now - and having recently rewatched Avatar: TLA as a mature person, rather than a child when I first watched it, I was able to appreciate the characters more and their arcs, their changes and hardships. The show is one of those that is fun for the kids, but really shines bright when you're mature enough to understand the characters and the difficulties they face throughout the series. The show by the end feels complete and that all characters had finished their journey, which is what especially makes it so good - all of the characters had their own screen time for development, on top of that you learn what they had to go through to get there. It's one of those shows that makes you want to stick around for the journey, not the destination.

Personally, I feel that Iroh hadn’t truly expected Zuko to join with him in Ba Sing Se. I imagine that he knew and understood Azula, someone who had mastered manipulation and treachery, would bring Zuko to his knees of his own consciousness. But I feel he understood Zuko more than he let on even more so. He had once come to be in that same place, striving for the love of his nation. But he had to discover, by himself, that to gain honor was in not his strength or success, but instead the following and fulfillment of one’s destiny and duty. He expected Zuko to accept Azula’s offer, but knew he would need to come to his own conclusion. If he had convinced him, it would not have taught him anything. But by witnessing the success he had always dreamed not being what he had expected, Zuko could understand in his own way.
