I watched this several years ago and now rewatching it. You were a bit of a leader using a drone (I guess that is what you used and it was high quality). Your overviews were appreciated. Belatedly, thank you.

Yes I have many years of experience with flying drones . My favourite thing has been flying over these Antient settlements and hill forts . Many more out there to find and research. Thanks for your comment, most appreciated.

American Here, So jealous, you have all this ancient history all about, in Europe. Protect it don't let anyone exploit it. We have some native american mounds around here, most were looted by settlers early on. The mounds held nothing of value to them, but they destroyed everything that really counted. The local teacher's colleges raid what remains, clueless, they systematically destroy the rest in the name of highways and shopping malls. I don't even know what the native american's called the river I grew up next too. Don't let the commercial ISIS raid your English heritage!

I don’t think Isis care much for a few stone dashed dirt mounds.

Than you, I enjoyed your simple yet informative history of these incredible feats of the time. An incredible journey in history of the British earth hill forts, with the terrace trenches all built by antler horn and removed in baskets. What times they must have been, harsh and uncertain. And so sadly we know so little about them.

I don’t care about all the very few negative comments, this video has had 23,000 views . It speaks thousands , and probably thousands going to the copyright producers for the music I have used , despite spending many many many hours producing the content. Copy right music producers you owe me . But no doubt I will never get any advertising revenue thanks to KZbin’s policy. I may delete the video soon . The end off all that revenue going to you. Will you really want that ? I have the power ! But no one will ever see this video again despite 23,000 views . KZbin producers and copyright producers have a massive problem it seems. This video will be deleted very soon.

Always good to have a good review despite all advertising revenue going to the copy-write music producers despite many many hours producing the video content. I think it’s now time for a Rival , KZbin platform does help talented like me . I have produced content on KZbin for people profiting from my content. It’s absolutely wrong , it needs to change . I many start that change !

Kentphotopics from what I remember theres actually quite a lot of local resistance to it, I think most people around here (even those without much interest in the past) realise that its a very bad idea. Hopefully those plans never come to fruition. A book sounds like a great idea! Though I heard on time team once in archaeological terms a hillfort is basically just an enclosure on the top if a hill with a few defensive structures so you may have to pick which ones to include wisely! Where I live Im lucky enough to be just 6 miles from oswestry and have another one visible out my window and another two within a 5 minute drive, so much history under our eyes and most people are oblivious to them.

Hi thanks for comment, I totally agree with what you say. Fortunately many of the hill forts lie in remote places, on top of high hills. Not easy to destroy with delevopements , Some of my video of a hill fort in the Scottish Borders may appear on a TV program later in the year.

None of these hill forts have direct access to water within the fort boundaries to my knowledge, a significant oversight for any fortified principle settlement. Could these have been enclosures for protecting the livestock and the warriors/ herdsmen who looked after them overnight and against marauding bands and wild animals? The livestock would have been the primary wealth of the main local population. Water would have to have been transported from nearby streams or captured from rain. Could the ditches have been lined with clay to act as reservoirs? Unless wells were sunk you wouldn’t be able to hold a position for long without a supply of water. The size and designs of these structures show evidence of a well organised population and are constant reminders of our enigmatic ancestors.

Thank you for your interesting comments / suggestions. I think certainly many of these hill fort settlements where used to house and protect cattle . As you say though never thought of it before. May certainly have been wild animals like wolfs around any years ago. I think they liked to protect there lands and being on a hill was the best option, but you are right about water supply. I would say that as you say that they may have collected water from some of those fort ditches . An interesting era in history many things we may never know about. We can only speculate.

Seeing all these hillforts makes me wonder about the people of that time. Why did they feel the need for all these defensive earthworks? They took an enormous amount of time and effort, time that could have been spent dancing, singing, or improving individual farmsteads, were they at peace and entirely peaceful. So who were they arming themselves against? The Romans had not yet arrived, much less the Vikings. Were they savaging each other's lands, or was there a continental threat that we do not know about? Who were they defending against?

That's very critical, seeing as it is obvious this is done by an amateur, a man who loves his subject, and yet you have the arrogance to make such a ill mannered reply. I am sure all would be waiting with itripidation a video of yourself doing a narration of a video you would like to upload, for it seems you are knowledgeable in this area, again from your comment. I await your oscar winning video, puki mai

@@will-i-am-not Practice makes perfect and prevents piss-poor performance. It's about how much you care about what you're putting out there. Arrogant? Possibly, but I care about what I do. Your confrontational response and your immature sign-off say a lot more about you than they ever could me. Now you have a nice day chap. 😁
