I love all the musical evolutions over the past few years. It's hard to let go of the sweetness and innocence and stripped down sound of the early years, but I love when artists move through their world and change. Thanks Mr. Beam & co.

Who the hell comes on to an Iron and Wine video to bash Sam's beautiful song writing? Are you serious? My God just listen to the beautiful music. Sam Beam is a very accomplished musician, and he is ALLOWED to say whatever the hell he wants. And in all honesty, if you this is bad have you EVER listened to any top 40 music? Even if Sams grammar isn't "perfect" at least everything he's writing is poetic and beautiful. If you have the intelligence to appreciate it. I will say no more. Good day sir.

You know, I started listening to Iron and Wine for the nice, authentic folk-rock he was so great at, but then The Shepherd's Dog really hooked me, and I've enjoyed Kiss Each Other Clean and Ghost and Ghost just as much as I liked Creek Drank the Cradle, Passing Afternoon, etc. He's such a talented musician, and if he can do songs that lean more towards jazz and rock, then I say go for it. Why limit himself when he has so much potential?

Fantastic stuff! I think this sound (and Kiss Each Other Clean) is something Sam Beam wanted to experiment years ago when Creek Drank the Cradle came out. I may be wrong, but it feels like an expected evolution of Iron and Wine.

"I" is the first person nominative (generally what we'd call subject). "Me" is first person accusative (generally called object). If you'll notice, Shakespeare ALSO said 'thou' 'thee' 'thy' and 'thine' which is all covered using you, you, your, and yours respectively. I'm sure Shakespeare would have a fit if he heard you say "I will give this to YOU" instead of "thee". Languages are constantly undergoing change, and first person is changing now much as second person did earlier.

Little harsh...but well put. He has completly changed his sounds. One would think that he would do another band or side project with this jazz "stuff". The other song "Lovers Revolution" that has been posted had a great beginning, but lost it with all the damn brass and jazz elements that came in.

Sorry, I am English (not Norwegian, although my husband is from Norwegian ancestry...). I am a bit pedantic about the English language. Shakespeare often got it wrong (poetic licence?). For example "Woe is me" is incorrect! All you have to do it turn the phrase around to check (Me is woe). In the above example just take out the word 'you' and it becomes "It all came down to I" which, of course, we would not say (corrected to "it all came down to me"). Keep on trolling, my friend!

Wasn't a gigantic fan of his last album either... I liked some of the more experimental aspects of it. I've always thought his melody and lyrics work best with very sparse accompaniment. All of this production just smothers what's great about his music instead of complimenting it... but like I said I do like that he's getting experimental and hopefully that leads to something I find more enjoyable. Sam is the man and I support him in all his artistic endeavors
@c4hI0fo2p11 жыл бұрын
look, I understand what you mean, and everyone is entitled to their own preferances and what not. But this sir, is NOT the material that I fell in love with. I wish Sam well as always but i'll stay within my "bounderies" of the music that I love by him and keep to that. Heck I've already deleted most of the "Ghost on Ghost" album off my ipod already. To each his/her own.
@drewd81111 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agreed. I went to a show in Atlanta for his last little tour after Kiss Each Other Clean, and not only had he not properly placed his new style under another moniker, but he FUCKING TOOK ALL OF MY FAVOURITE GODDAMN SONGS AND TURNED THEM INTO THIS SHIT. Who. Fucking. Does that? It infuriated me. Deeply. Sure, he has the right to do what he wants with his work. But those songs meant so much to me. I honestly would have thrown a tomato at his face if I would have had it with me.

L.K. Oh, My! A criticizer who does NOT research before writing.. Took me 46 seconds to learn from two sources- the USA is ranked 22 & 26 in literacy worldwide! That phrase had NOTHING to do with being lyrical... The writer could have used..'To you and Me!" and not changed the song. Also, Sir/Miss Picky with no substance, I often use some 'Poetic License' in writing. Maybe use 'with me and you' to rhyme with 'True. (Yes, 'with me and you' is incorrect!) But repeating it 36 times is an insult!

Should we all go back and correct the grammar of the old blues guys? Or how about the double negative of "I Can't Get No Satisfaction?" Prince was a crappy speller! "You and I" is a better hook than "you and me" here. How many copy editors do you know making good music? Anyway, heard this on WFUV today and had to track it down. Glad they still make them like this.

I don't get the reference
@nonsuchned946 жыл бұрын
About the grammar. Have you considered that it's intentional? And your argument against it may actually mirror what is going on in the song? So the song is fun and catchy but you have a problem with the grammar. Basically, you're saying is that it all comes down to "you and I.' What if Sam/The subject of the song has the same sort of problem with the other person in the song? The use of the phrase becomes a double meaning. It refers both to their relationship AND maybe that although they have this history of fun and crazy times, they still have a problem when the other uses bad grammar like 'you and I."
@florascent9ts11 жыл бұрын
#whydoyouhateproductionvalue Does anybody get that reference? No? Okay, I'll leave.
