Iron Chef is so iconic. The chokehold this show has on pop culture is truly crazy. The Genso Suikoden games have parodies of the show in them, including plot lines about going to culinary war against cooking clans. Wild show. I definitely need to get back into it.

Between this being about the original (& better) Iron Chef & the Gackt Mizerable joke, there has literally never been a video so specifically & directly targeted at me, so thank you! They took most of their inspiration from professional wrestling, which is why it has such a Vibe and Style and sometimes does fictional storylines like the guy who came in with 50 followers; also Ohta is just the best lol Every episode (or close to every) is available for free right here on YT for anyone interested!

Fun fact about the back story parts you mention around the 8 min mark: I saw a vid from (i think) a historian talking about why anime characters always give these bombastic announcements of who they are + what fighting moves they use during battle and apparently its because when samurai warriors back in the day would fight each other, they'd do similar intros that the other would actually listen to so that if they win, they could use their intense intro as bragging rights (i.e. "i defeated the ultimate dragon warrior of the western highlands blah blah") so I'm thinking that's where this storytelling aspect may come from. I'm fuzzy on the details but that was the gist! Also, love this hair on you girl 😁

This show can never be duplicated, and I love that about it! and as for the fruit, based on what I've heard and know about agriculture in Japan...$10 for a peach sounds about right 😭😭 a good portion of the produce, specifically fruit, is imported or grown by, at most a handful of people out in the countryside.

I LOVE Iron Chef! Chen Kenichi is an absolute workhorse, sometimes he gets selected week after week and he looks exhausted 😆 I always figured that the Iron Chefs won most of the time because they are well accustomed to the 60 minute challenge, and regardless of the cuisine they tend to make everything to suit Japanese preferred tastes/textures.

I'm only 10 minutes in and your explanation of the show lore has me veryyy intrigued in sitting down and actually watching the OG Iron Chef (and I say this as a chef who gets stressed out watching most cooking shows loll). Also 11:57 , as someone who works in the industry, it's likely that Chef Morimoto would have been able to be in episodes (likely in blocks of recording) without too much difficulty because Nobu would have had at least sous chefs/chef de cuisines and maybe even demi chefs who could run the kitchen in his stead; bc basically a head chef in that capacity orchestrates the main menu but is not really present on the actual kitchen hot line lolll. But thank you for doing this video, it's such a treat of you sharing this bit of your childhood nostalgia with us that clearly brings you a lot of joy & comfort💕

OMG, I LOVED the og Iron Chef! I used to watch it as a kid with my big sister and we’d marvel at the beautiful food and laugh at all the camp! 😂 Good times… 😌 Iron Chef America came around and I TRIED to watch it and was like: I physically cannot do it. It just isn’t the same. I’d been searching for the og on streaming for YEARS, gave up at some point, resigned that it would just have to continue in my childhood memories… And then I get a notification from YOU, talking about THIS show. I was cautiously optimistic. “Watch it not be available anywhere AYE can see it..” Searched again… and it’s on PRIME!!! I’m bout to BINGE this glorious AMAZING show!!! I wonder what moments I’ll remember… 😃

IRON CHEF!!!! I have never been so early to your videos, and neither have I clicked so fast! I used to spend the night at my grandparents' house every Friday night. My grandma is Okinawan, and she watched this RELIGIOUSLY. I loved watching it with her. I always cheered for the underdog unless they were competing with Masaharu Morimoto. He was my favorite Iron Chef, too! I was SO stoked when he joined Iron Chef America! Even if my grandma and I agreed that the show just wasn't as good as the original. Thank you for bringing me back a piece of my childhood. I cannot wait to go back and watch episodes! :D

I watched Iron Chef with my grandmother all the time growing up. Such a chaotic and entertaining cooking competition and probably my favorite one from my childhood.
